Attended a panel today about the future of video gaming, media, interactivity etc. and one of the panelists mentioned Virgin Gaming. Apparently, in around 30+ states within the USA, it is legal to gamble on video games, because they are a "Skills based" feat, as opposed to poker and blackjack, which are "luck based." SO, Virgin has built up Virgin Gaming (http://virgingaming.com) to house your video game gambling vices, if you so choose to do so.

I myself haven't used the service yet, but from looking around the site, they've got almost every major sports game up there, and are starting to flesh out their adventure genre with Assassins Creed.

Hopefully one day they'll have fighters up there a la Marvel vs. Capcom, but till then, enjoy adding even more intensity to your Madden games.

Wait, does this mean it's illegal to bet on sports? Football, baseball and stuff?

Not entirely sure about that, as I am not a gambler whatsoever, but I think official betting on sports can only be done at Casinos in the US, hence the reason why Las Vegas will be going crazy during march madness. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

BTW, I couldn't exactly understand how this system works. What is this, private game servers that allow you to bet?

From the site

Once a challenge has been accepted by you or your opponent, the date, time and gameplay rules will be confirmed on your Home page and by email. Meet your opponent online on your PS3 or Xbox 360 at the confirmed time and play the game like you always do. Once the game is completed, our Game Validator™ will automatically verify the match results based on your unique PSN ID or gamertag and will update each player's account accordingly. Tournament play follows the same steps as head-to-head matches.

Seems like you use the site to arrange matches, house your bets, and distribute the funds accordingly after a game is completed.
