This is my rating scale for your season:

Level 1: National Championship
Level 2: Conference Championship
Level 3: 10+ Wins
Level 4: 8-9 Wins
Level 5: 7-6 Wins
Level 6: Bullshit losing season, no bowl game

If you have a level 3 season, you are elite. Level 4 and you are still pretty good. Anything below that and your team is a dismal failure. Yes, I know you can win a CC w/o having 10 wins, but blow me.

For further elucidation:

To determine the overall suckiness/greatness of your team, take the season score for the last 10 seasons and average them. For example... just picking at random the Texas Longhorns.... you will see they average 2.8, making them an elite team which all other teams should aspire to be like.

Also, if you lose to a team like Appalachian State, you automatically lose one level, no matter what.

Really ripping on Michigan there. I don't know how Pitt has been over the past 10 years, and I'm not about to look it up, but they'll probably be a level 4 team this year.

Rooting for Penn State, but they'll probably get whooped by Alabama on Saturday.

American College Football. What, you guys aren't excited about the Ohio St. vs. Miami game over there?

Come to think of it...do people follow college sports with such fervor anywhere else in the world? Or is that unique to the US?

College sports... Not in Holland or any other country I know of. They have some student champignonships, for example of rowing, but nothing as big as this seems to be.

College American Football and Basketball are huge here. In fact, I like College Basketball so much more than the NBA. But I think it would take a lot for College Football to over take the NFL.

Anyway, I'm hoping Penn State can be Alabama this weekend. I'm actually a Pitt fan who doesn't mind Penn State. Pittsburgh has its insecurities, so naturally they hate everything else in the state that's better than them, ie Philadelphia and Penn State Football. I'm sure Pitt will easily dispose of New Hampshire this weekend. I really hate the first few weeks of the season. These games vs. no name teams do nothing for me.

I don't understand the appeal of college sports unless you go/went to one of the schools playing.

I was thinking about this the other night.
I guess it gives people in small towns [assuming their town A) Doesn't have a pro sport and B) has a college] something to cheer for, and really get behind.

I can't even watch college football anymore, it's pointless.I'm boycotting it until they fix the bowl system. It's completly retarded how important one regular season win is. If you start the year off 0-3... you can blow out every team you face for the rest of the season by 50 points per game and not have a championship shot. That can't be said for any yearly sport except college football (that I know of anyway lol... and if it can be said for another sport, that's why I don't watch it either!!!)

Damn straight. They need a playoff for football like march madness for basketball. There are even brackets for high school football playoffs. The bowl games are fucking ridiculous, and they're only in place for money.

Yup and that wont change. Capitalism GO!

Have you seen the payout for the top bowl game? Something like 20 million.
