Just getting this out of the way, this isn't a thread about the sales potential of Kinect. The flaws in its designs or whatever. As weird as it is, I am semi-curious about the device so this is more of a thread for impressions, videos and game announcements for it.

Uncaged Fighter, a fully motion controlled fighting game. This game looks somewhat interesting and if they could get the combination down and limit the lag will be a hell of an experience.

Javelin was a new mode shown in Kinect Sports. This highlights the problem with some motion control games, the animation in the video just looks janky and I think its because they don't always account for all different types of bodies/movements.

Some Kinect launch details,

Microsoft is gearing up for a massive marketing push to launch Kinect -- a controller-free Wii-killer for the Xbox -- and blow away the competition come Christmas.

Backed by a half-billion-dollar budget, the tech giant is rolling out a major movie-style marketing blitz aimed at driving its motion-sensing device to the top of holiday wish lists.
Like a much anticipated summer blockbuster, Kinect will appear on everything from soda cans to cereal boxes and will span television, magazines and the Internet.

The company began planning the launch 18 months ago with the help of Hollywood producer Steven Spielberg.

"Kinect is the largest, most integrated marketing initiative in Xbox history, bigger than its launch," said Robert Matthews, general manager of global marketing communications for Xbox. "We are going to be spending millions to launch this globally."

Microsoft launched Xbox in July 2000 with a $500 million marketing campaign, but part of that went to subsidies to make the hardware more affordable.

This time around Microsoft has struck a promotional partnership with Burger King. Four million cans of Pepsi and Diet Pepsi will plug Kinect, along with 60 million cereal and snack boxes from Kellogg's.

Meanwhile, some 7,000 retailers will stay open past midnight on Nov. 4 -- the day Kinect goes on sale -- to stimulate demand.

...

Kinect will take over YouTube's home page and have a big presence on Nickelodeon and Disney digital properties. Microsoft, with the help of its ad agency, McCann Erickson, is spending ad dollars in places it doesn't normally to target moms as well as kids.

TV spots, created by AgencyTwoFifteen, will pop up on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" next Monday and on Fox's "Glee."

The print ad buy includes titles such as "People" and "InStyle," among others. Microsoft's Xbox team is also organizing a major outdoor event in Times Square, where many of the huge billboards will show Kinect ads.

The new device will face off against many other rivals, including the just launched Sony PlayStation Move bundle and perennial favorite Nintendo Wii.

The launch should help goose an industrywide slowdown in both video game hardware and software.

According to the latest NPD Group data, videogame hardware sales across the industry were down 19 percent in September compared to the same month a year ago.

So far this year, hardware sales are down 13 percent, to $3 billion, while video game software is off 8 percent to $4.93 billion.

Kinect's actually pretty awesome. It's been a major hit for everyone who's been over at my place. Dance Central is especially getting a lot of praise.

Kinect Adventures is an ok pack-in but yeah, the Kinect is definitely in need of a killer app that doesn't involve dancing. I have high hopes for Project Draco (Panzer Dragoon's spiritual sequel) and Child of Eden. It's got a hell of a lot of potential and I don't regret buying it at all.

Playstation Move, on the other hand, looks like a stillbirth - I don't know one person who owns it. I may buy it if something interesting comes along, but my interest has not been piqued.

Played this at combines house over the weekend. It was alot of fun. Of the games I played soccer was easily the most fun.

Can't wait to see what they do past the typical motion games.

First I need to get a new 360, then we'll see about the Kinect. I'm really missing my Xbox right now...

By the way, does anyone know if the old HDs are compatible with the new 360's? I hate the idea of having to pay $100 for 250 gigs when I have a perfectly serviceable 20 gigs in my old rig.

The new 360's have a built in HD, so no the 20 gig HD is not compatible.
You will have to get an HD transfer kit or a flash drive to move all your data over.
Not sure why they went with an internal HD for this one, I kind of liked being able to remove it.

*sigh*

My Xbox is busted. I have no way of accessing the data to make the transfer. My biggest disappointment? My saves from Mass Effect 1 and 2 are lost and I'll have to start with a new character for 3. That REALLY bothers me. So many hours LOST.

EDIT: I'll just buy a used 360.

If you're Xbox is busted but the hard drive is still functioning, there -has- to be a way to get the stuff off.

If you get a data transfer kit, is it possible to hook your old HD in one side, and plug the other side into the new Xbox (or the new Xbox's hard drive if you get one that is removable.)

Just buy a converter for the HD to convert it to USB. They sell them everywhere for like $20 or less.

That's assuming your old 20 GB HD has a normal connector, as I'm guessing it does.

EDIT: One such example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002

Apparently the X360 HDs use SATA as I thought, which is the standard PC connector. This converts SATA to USB. Be warned: you may have to open up the hard drive enclosure, voiding your warranty. :p

Yeah, I recently bought a new 360 slim. I used a regular old hard drive that I had inside an enclosure that utilized USB ports. I hooked my hard drive into my old 360's USB port, formatted it, and moved the data to it.

Then, I plugged it into the usb port on my new 360, and moved the data onto there.

If you get the sata to USB thing that mana is talking about, this should be even easier for you since you can just take the old hard drive out and move things right to the new 360 via USB.

Well all my dlc was obviously redownloaded when I made the switch, and for 5 dollars I picked up a memory card for all my save files. It's really not a bad switch. I just had to take my HD from my old Xbox to a friend's house since my 360 was like "Lol no, RROD go"

Ive hit my hand against the wall a few times while victory flailing, but thats about it.
I also cant do anything that requires jumping, as my ceiling is fairly low and I would hit my head if I did.

Gawd. I seriously cannot wait for Project Draco. The game could entirely be about training and riding dragons and I would not care. Panzer Dragoon guy is #1 in my book - now if he could only raise Smilebit back from the dead, then I'd be set.
