Quote from Hyper Magazine

"America's television standard was developed under the guidance of the National Televisions Standards Committee, thus it is called NTSC. In most of Europe, Asia and Africa the power frequency is 50Hz so they developed 2 television standards which better suit the needs of these countries. One of the 50Hz Standards is PAL (Phase Alternating Lines) and the other is SECAM (SEquential Color Avec Memoire). While PAL is used in most of Europe and former territories of the British Empire such as Australia, SECAM is primarily used in France, Eastern BLock and Middle Eastern Countries"

So there's some information for u guys.

50hz? Ick. So it's the refresh rate that sucks?

Can you even get HDTV on that?

50Hz, nasty. Those slower refresh rates give more people headaches.

Try playing TTT running @ 50hz.

It's so slow. THis is why I'm making all these topics about PAL games not tweaked for 60hz. It sux.

FFX has these HUGE borders (top and bottom) and it has choppy frame rates/FMV.

SH2 FMV is choppy

At least MGS2, and GTA3 are ok.

With all the GC games I've played, they all work run @ 60hz. Rogue Leader, Monkeyball, Wave Race, ISS.

I think someone from Nintendo announced that all the PAL games are optimised to run @ 60hz. Definently a good thing.

But apparently PAL has a better colour output or something! I dunno

So far Xbox games look ok. DOA3 and Halo are perfect.

So now you know why I get p!ssed. We have to wait longer to get games, and when we do get them, there's a chance they may be running @ 50hz (I.E. FFX).

PAL M runs at 60Hz, being the vertical frequency. but it has a wider channel bandwidth that allows for better picture quality.

Of course, HDTV has changed all that. Cause see, PAL runs at 625 lines/frame. Being the better picture than NTSC's 525 lines/frame. PAL M of course, only gets 524 lines/frame, but it also has the faster frequency.

Now, when we look at HDTV, I believe they have anywhere from 700-2,000 lines/frame. The 700 will be the cheest, sub $1,000 TVs that support a digital signal. The 2,000 line ones are the $5,000+ range widescreen HDTVs. There are different names for these, EDTV, SDTV, HDTV, but let's not confuse anyone here. Those are affected by lines, screen ratio, and dolby 5.1 output.

HDTVs also support frequencies from 50Hz to 120Hz.

Hmm..........u seem to know alot about this.

So with HDTV, you basically pay more for better picture quality.

Interesting......
