Forget who had the best conference. And it doesn't matter if you watched any of the conferences, I didn't.

I haven't seen enough e3 conferences to say its the worst one, but I'm curious for your reasoning.

I'll start with this:
http://www.cracked.com/article_18608_the-day-gaming-industry-died-impressions-from-e3-2010.html
And further elaborate by noting this year's E3 seemed to be less about gaming than it has been in the past.
And I'll further add everything motion controls related.
And note that the industry is in need of a reboot. Which makes sense, because all industries are cyclical in nature. I'm just thankful we have Valve and Blizzard making games still. Bleck.
I'll get into it more later as I do intend to maybe watch the conference instead of just highlights, although I doubt I'm missing much.

That article is almost as badly written as the other one SlyMoogle posted saying that the games industry is going to collapse because today is totally like the 80s. All I have to do to disprove that article is write a simple equation:
Big Three Console Makers != Games Industry
Meditate on that for a while.

Look, for the last time, I'm not going out with you no matter how much you stalk me around the forums. Give it a rest already.

Yeah, it's not like moderating the forums, reading the posts and being some type of administrator-type is my 'job' around here or anything.
You wouldn't be my type anyways.

Yeah...you just keep telling yourself that moderating and administrating a forum has anything to do with this thread.
You want to try actually responding to someone's points? It's pretty fun.

Exactly, EA and Activision own the remaining companies.
And they announced Pac-Man CE DX, which makes this E3 awesome.

I can't say this is the WORST E3 ever, since I'm sure there were some bad ones I forgot about. I'm pretty sure the "last" E3's of a generation before the new console announcements are always kinda lame. I may be wrong though.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. Anyway, I'm always amused by "end is nigh" articles regarding the gaming industry. Videogames have been dying for the past ten years along with books, TV and movies. Whatever your entertainment venue of choice, they just don't make them like they used to any more. It's too absurd for me to take seriously.
The article that KillerGremlin cites has some relevant facts but draws all the wrong conclusions. Since it's on Cracked, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be taken totally seriously or not, but assuming that it is, it just doesn't hold up to any kind of rigorous analysis. I pointed out the most obvious flaw which is that just because sales of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have shrunk doesn't mean the videogame industry is dying. Videogaming these days also includes games on Facebook, cell phones, the iPhone and iPad, Windows and Mac...add all of those together and you have an industry way bigger than the consoles. And somehow, despite the fact that the videogame industry is dying (again), I somehow think you'll find some games here and there that you want to play. So most games out there are crap designed to make a quick buck off of gullible, non-discriminating slackjaws who just want to kill boredom for a little bit rather than appreciate hard work and artistry? Welcome to capitalism. That's what it's like with movies, too, but even the stuffiest critic will tell you that there are lots of movies worth watching every year. You just have to look for them and you have to be open to the fact that there are going to be niche movies which appeal to very few people other than yourself. And that's ok.
It's kind of ironic because the author of the article (David Wong) points out that development budgets for games are way too high and unsustainable. Instead of drawing the obvious conclusion ("Developers need to scale back their ambitions so that their games don't need to sell a million copies to break even"), he bemoans the fact that this means we're going to be seeing more cheap games. Has anybody noticed, by the way, that De Blob is getting a sequel even though the original had sales numbers which would be considered abysmal on the Xbox 360 or PS3? I'm not complaining.
I could go on and on poking holes, but at this point I'm getting the feeling that I'm thinking way more deeply about this than even David Wong wants to. And come to think of it, this whole conversation reads kind of like a half-baked rant. Which is fine. Just don't expect me to take it seriously.

I don't think it was the worst E3 ever. But some parts of the Nintendo conference were terrible. Zelda mostly.
The announcements of Kirby, Donkey Kong and Kid Icarus were great.

I think currently the industry has two main problems, the divide between "casuals" and "hardcores" Where developers feel the only good casual games are party games and fitness games, and hardcore games are pretty much any game you shoot.
The problem with that is both of those genres are becoming EXTREMELY saturated, but they are also the safest bets so we get tons of those types of games.
The other problem is this really should have been the go-home e3 for the current gen, the Xbox is now on its 5th year on market, and the Wii/PS3 are on their 4th, usually by this time in the generation, most consoles are showing fumes, and console makers start to hint at what's next. Maybe a codename, maybe a design or something.

I actually think this was one of the better E3s in recent memory. I didnt really watch the Sony Conference, but they showed quite a few games I am interested in, and my only complaint with the NIntendo conference was their Zelda Trailer was way to short and not epic enough, and the Demo had some problems but that was not all their fault I dont believe.

Psha. Liked this e3. Your rant lacks discipline, KG.
I mean, really...

How do you possibly justify that statement? And without using some vainglorious b.s. references to nostalgic times back in the day, when all things were great and santa claus was real.

It's funny that everyone is voting no in the poll, but nobody has mentioned a E3 that was worse.

Well that's easy. 2008. I remember the IGN editors pretty universally derided it as a miserable event that they hated having to attend.

I also remember another year that even my pimple ridden, high school self loathed. I was like "WTF?! Then moar WTF?" It was a bad year. Somewhere from 2000-2004
Possibly 2k2 or 3.

I thought 2009 was boring, but I guess not for MS/Sony consumers. Then again, any Eł show without Zelda is disappointing to me.
