Ok so here is the deal, I'm trying to connect a wireless router onto an already existing network just to use it as an access point. From everything I've read I should just have to change the IP address and disable the DHCP server.

I did that at which point I didn't have internet access at all. Anyone have any advice?

Basically it's an ethernet cable that has been run from one part of a very large house to a much larger part of the house. AKA not getting the wireless signal, so need to put another wireless router on the chain.

What brand/model router is it?

What did you change the ip address to?

Check to see if it still is running a DNS server, if so disable it.

Check if it has any firewalls up, if so disable them as well.

If the problem persists see if it has a straight "use as access point mode"

If still nothing, try chucking out the window

.....results may vary with that last one

I have done this before, but the details are fuzzy, even at the time. I think one trick maybe this --

For the second router being used as a simple repeater/access point, try plugging in the incoming internet into one of its regular LAN ports, NOT the uplink port.

Can't remember if that worked or not.

you know I read something about that but didn't try it. I'll have to try that in a bit.

It's one of those new Linksys E1000 with Cisco networking solutions software, however it wont let you access that shit without the network working.
