I know we attempted a podcast like 2 years ago, and it was a fun time, but it never really took off.

So here I am proposing a second attempt at the GT podcast.

This time with a somewhat different format, and concept.

The podcast would be more of a roundtable discussion this time around. It would feature a singular host (and right now, and he has agreed I'm leaning towards KeatonMr) who would have a panel of "Experts" each week depending on the topic.

On that subject, the topic would also change from week to week. Since GT isn't primarily a gaming forum anymore, I think it would be best for the podcast to reflect that. So one week could be games, another movies, and then comics or we could have one focused on any events going on at the forums.

So this is a general interest thread. To see who would want to partake, if they have any suggestions for topics, who has experience with producing a podcast.

~Edit
Just to keep better track of scheduling

June 27th- Toy Story 3
July4th- The Last Airbender?
July 11th- FMA: Brotherhood
July 18th- TBD
July 25th- TBD
Aug 1st- TBD
August 8th- StarCraft 2 (?)
August 15th/22nd- Scott Pilgrim vs The World (don't know how many people will see opening weekend)
August 29th- Summer Movie Review/Wrap-Up
Sept 3rd- Fall Movie Preview
Sept 10th- Metroid: Other M
Sept- Resident Evil: Afterlife
Sept- Halo Reach

Feel free to drop any ideas for those slots.

Episode on movie bad-asses.

An episode focused on toys. The type of toys you grew up playing with. If you still buy em and the likes.
An episode on computers, like what was your first PC and all that fun stuff.
Cartoons (Well several episodes, wanna do one focused on comic book cartoons, video game cartoons, and general cartoons)
Gadgets and gizmos, devices that have caught your eye or that you own or want.

Yeah, I'm totally down to participate. I tried to get a podcast off the ground once over at the IGN boards, but it crashed and burned pretty hard. The hardest part is getting everyone together. If we can manage that we'll be fine.

The only thing is I probably need to get a better headset or something. The only thing I have with a microphone is my netbook and a far inferior beta version of Skype 2.0 for Linux.

It needs to die a little bit.

Hey everyone. Thought I'd post here since I'm the potential host. I plan on starting my own podcast, potentially as soon as Wednesday, on my blog. So anyone hesitant can check that out. Just a warning, it will pretty much be a video I record with my webcam and not much more haha. That's kind of what I came here to say though. For this to work we need someone who is good at video editing. At least, if we want to make it seem a little more legitimate.

I'm under the impression that this will be an audio podcast as well. Since it is simpler to get going and the likes.

Yeah that is what I had in mind, but a Skype audio chat, not a video chat, not even sure how that would work. The work alone would be a pain in the arse.

From how Babs described it to me it appears there will be rotating guests depending on their field of expertise/interest with Keatonmr as the stationary host.

Yeah that's how it sounded to me as well.

Anyhow, I guess for the first round, we can try...

Well guess we need a topic for the first podcast. Any takers?

~Edit~

It doesn't have to follow this format, but it could be a three part podcast

Part 1: On the Rocks
Basically the Whatcha been Playing/Reading/Watching Segment of the show
It could be topical or just what's going on with the guest of the week.

Part 2: Survey Says
Would be the Segment of the Week. So a roundtable discussion on a singular subject. A game, a comic series, a movie, TV show

PArt 3: What's On Tap
A look ahead at next week. What movies are coming out u wanna see, if there's any big events like a Con or e3, games/dvds/blu-rays /comics coming out. Etc

I mean it doesn't need to follow this format, just an idea

I like it! It keeps a structure to the podcast while keeping it open for any new ideas or topics, and since there's always something new when you're coverings many types of media like games, books, comics, and movies.

So segment ideas I came up with talking to Babs:

Given the insulting from our last endeavor I propose a segment called Angry Drunk where the edited out tasteless comments and namecalling which are bound to happen are thrown together and tacked on as a closer to the show.

Or since so many of you are fond of making drunk threads we could have a call in line where you ramble off your insane drunken slurs for the Angry Drunk section.

Or it could be Prof S's segment...I kid I kid.

And then there is the name. Don't want to use "GameTavern" since won't really be the focus. Babs wants something with "With A Twist." There was also "Hair of the Dog, Eye of the Newt" and "Hair of the Dog, Eye of the Tiger" but those sound like Kung Fu movies.

Thought "With a Twist" could be a segment where someone delves into something to talk about and then ask what the twist is. 9 times out of 10 it'll be stupid or an insult.
"And that's how you create your own subatomic particle accelerator."
"And what's the twist?"
"Your mother's a whore."
"Goodnight everybody."

Tried using a band name generator and got:
* Tavern Of The Spinning Drip
* Tavern Of The Forum Morality
* Villain Tavern And The Moon
* Tavern Of The Elusive Cocoa
* Sensual Tavern
* Tavern Android Of The Radiant Flaw
* Intelligent With A Twist And The Tendency
* With A Twist Under Empty
* With A Twist Retention
* With A Twist Of The Colon (ouch)
* Tavern Schwank
* Premature Tavern Of The Bending Pinky
* Tavern Primate And The Florida
* Tavern Project Of The Backroom Nostalgia
* Lunch Of The Tavern Confusion
* First Class Tavern Of The Double Ostrich
* Twist Cork And The Clever Addiction
* Loud Twist And The Veggie Tomato
* Twist Creme Of The Jaded Muffin
* Twist Liquid And The Pubic Junkee

Okay so we still don't have a topic for the first podcast, which is always a good start, but was thinking if you folks wanted to try and record tomorrow or Friday night.

I think we can do 4 for the first podcast so Keaton, and I guess 3 people. It would be a basic introduction to the podcast and what we hope to accomplish. I guess segment 2 and 3 could be what's going on and what's going to happen next week.

Just an idea. Not around much this weekend so wanted to throw it out there.

I already have a mic and everything. My voice will sound weird because it's just naturally that way.

To start with, how about a segment about upcoming movies? And how come there are so many mercenary on the run movies all of a sudden? The Losers, The Expendables and The A Team all at once? Seriously?

Also, you could close by endorsing a remixed videogame song that you really like.

So seems like this week's podcast isn't going to happen

So had two ideas for next week, depending on the forum.

First, would be dependent on who got Splinter Cell: Convinction could provide coverage on that.

If not, could be on Kick-Ass, thoughts on the comics, what expect from the movie.

And if we don't do it this week, could do a Kick-Ass comics to film discussion the week after.

Also

for names, based on direction song was going

was thinking something like 8-Bite podcast. I mean you can sometimes get food in a tavern/bar/pub. And well it is still a gaming site, I know its a bad pun.

Just trying out different things.

BreakABone
04-11-2010, 02:07 AM
So I'm trying to put together a new podcast as I mentioned before, and before that can get off the ground.

Working on some things, I know already discussing in the other thread, but not everyone is checking it out, so figured would have this thread for general help.

First up is coming up with a name, we've been batting a few around. The main goal at least to me is to find a way to merge both the "Tavern" part of the name with the "Game" part of the name. With that said, here are a few of the suggestions

With a Twist
Just with a Twist
8 Bit Heist
8 Bit Bang!
Almost Gamers
The Nerd Round-Up
Cactus Punch
ThereCast
Life Potion

I mean just some ideas, feel free to throw some out, say which you think should stay, which should be burned and buried in the back.

Second off is the music, I posted samples of 2 songs my friend made for me in the other thread, but also trying to find songs from other sources. So far got some music from Wild Arms and Wild Guns, which is some pretty cool digitized western music.

Again offer up any suggestions or anything.

I'm down with the Nerds on the Rocks (Are a Bloody Mess) title. Haven't listened to the themes so I can't offer my opinion.

I also have SOME knowledge of comics. We could also talk about the Losers since the movie will be coming relatively soon, although the format Earl suggested for the first podcast looked good to me.

Okay so TML has agreed to record and edit for us.

I think depending on the time frame, we may need someone else to record and send to him.

Now with that settled, we have the name/music issue to work on, which is in the other thread.

Third, I want folks to send samples of their audio quality eitiher via like a minute long monologue of sorts or adding me on Skype and testing it out there.

Thank you.

Hope to record Wedn/Thurs night this week.

Any feedback is appreciated as this whole project is a work in progress.

Now we just need to come up with a recording schedule. TML has agreed to edit the cast, and I'm sure we can find some place to host it.

As stated before, Keaton has agreed to be the host for now (Unless he has changed his mind) and we have a stable of people who want to have their voices heard. At best, want the staff to rotate around the main topic of discussion for the week.

Now for episode 1, we have a lot of ways to go but the basic breakdown.

On The Rocks (Segment One)
Will be the segment where folks talk about what new media they have consumed.
I would like this to be known ahead of time. If nothing else, I want to make sure that everyone on the podcast for the week knows what the other person is talking about. They don't need to know intricate details, but they need to know if its a CD, a movie, a comic series or whatever it is.

Survey Says (Segment Two)
This week is still a toss-up. Depending on when we record and people's purchasing habits, it can either be a discussion of Kick-Ass (the comic and the movie, how it compares and all that jazz) or it can be a look at Splinter Cell: Convinction.

None of us are real pros, but I believe its also NPD week, I don't suggest it.

On Tap (Segment 3)
This is a combination news/look ahead segment.
Depending on the week, it can be a recap of nerd news. New Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, Joss Whedon directing the Avengers, and the likes.

Or it can be a discussion of the movie of the week (Kick-Ass/The Losers), new comics (Brightest Day), Blu-ray/DVD news (LoTR just released), TV shows (24, LOST. W/e)

So here's the thread, want some solid ideas and a firm time.

I'm in class until 7:40 Eastern tomorrow, and it takes me generally about an hour and a half to finally relax after having dinner and the like. So I'm good after that. Thursday nights are generally good for me as well. I'm down for contributing.

My areas of expertise: Electronic engineering, some video games (PC, Wii, and PS3), some movies, a little music, Houston, New Orleans, Texas, some rock climbing, some Europe travel, Malta, Italy, long walks along the beach, etc.

Maybe this ought to be a once a month thing, so we don't over extend ourselves trying to get things out every week when we really don't have much interesting stuff to talk about.

EDIT: Oh, and I can talk about micro-brews and alcohol. We could do like a drink of the week/month, have clanking bottles and talking about what goes in it while making it, and then a taste test right then and there.

Its the first show, there will be some growing pains.

Magus sounds like he is speaking on a cell's speakerphone, but he already is working on fixing that.

There seems to be random times when the audio breaks and it does kind of get annoying, but assume part of the program.

There are also random sounds throughout the show. Maybe, we should record in smaller chunks and then paste them together.

As a whole though, I enjoyed the podcast. The discussion seemed natural, and the three host seemed knowledgeable for the most part, granted, I disagree with some of their points (think most people credit Blade/X-men with the comic book resurgence), but it was listenable.

The three of them seemed to work well together. I thought anyhow. So may need to go back to the drawing board.

~Edit~
Some other deals, I know there was no intro/outtro for this episode, but that was more due to the recording software. We shall get this worked out for next week.

The third segment, at least when I pitched it was named, "On Tap" but may re-tool the segments as well.

I like the discussion of a topic, a big news story and then something simple to wrap the show around.

Speaking of different areas of expertise

Was thinking/hoping to have a podcast with Germie, Dylflon, Teuthida and maybe Gekko about video games being art.

I figured, they represent the 3 standard sense of art and Gekko is trying to be a developer. And well he is bitter so should make a good listen.

Okay throwing out some other ideas/dates

Around the release of Prince of Persia, we can have a podcast focused on video game movies. What has come, what is in the pipeline and what you think works as a future movie.

Babs pretty much said everything.

You're quite an eloquent dude Mags though shame your sound quality sucked. Towards the end almost every other word out of Keaton's mouth got cut off. And Uber who had the best sound spoke the least.

I tuned out in the beginning for the Xbox talk but was pretty enthralled for the rest of the show.

A little constructive criticism. You guys would frequently namedrop GT and Babs but have to take into account that there would be folks listening who aren't aware of the site (maybe not this once there's a proper intro) or even Babs. (I know what you're thinking: Who on the internet doesn't know Earl? Surprisingly there are a few.) Had a good conversation going on but seemed a little unaware of having a listener audience.

Good job guys. Leaps and bounds better than the last attempt two years ago.

Yeah, this probably wasn't the best episode for me to be on, lol. I rarely play on Xbox Live, didn't play the original at all, and don't read comic books or watch Joss Whedon shows. Though at least I managed to keep a certain degree my characteristic monotony out of my voice.

I was kinda bothered after recording thinking that I talked so much. I think that after a while I tend to get very repetitive and fumble over words. I'm glad someone found some good in that though. I've already got my Rock Band mic as a better alternative until I can snag a nice Logitech headset with a boom mic.

Just some general suggestions as always.

I think we should record in smaller chunks, perhaps do like 15-20 minute sessions of recording. And then a short break. One makes it easier for the person editing the podcast, but also gives you folks time to discuss what going to talk about next. Maybe get some notes/find links or whatever in case everyone draws a blank.

Also since, there were some minor technical issues, could potentially help to alleviate them.

Another thing, I think there should be an intro and then an agenda run-down before the theme song.
Like Hi my name is X, and X and X and this week we will talk about Y,Y and Y. Theme Song... and then Welcome to Nerds on the Rock, and go from there.

As for naming suggestions,

I believe originally was like, On The Rocks, Survey Says and On Tap

On The Rocks is taken since name of the podcast haha

So let's see,
we can still use Nerds on Tap for the news portion.
And will think

Tuesdays and Thursdays are good for me during the day and night, and Monday/Wednesday are good for me for nights only. I figure we might want and get a set date and time narrowed down early on for the sake of this week and future recordings as well.

Also Keaton, we're having some trouble finding out where you are man! You were a good host for the first ep but we gotta know when you're around.

Hopefully you folks can record tonight, had some ideas from early wanted to share

I don't care about order of sessions so will use general terms

For the big topic of the week, I was thinking something like "House Special" as the name

For the general discussion of a big news story, "On Tap"

And for the random ender/question, was thinking "Off the Menu"

I mean you don't have to use, just some things.

As for topics, we're doing summer movie previews this week

Not sure what the following week is,

Think one week should be focused on video game movies (around the release of PoP)

Also think it will be interesting to do one about women in geek culture, how they are treated, why so few movies released for them that aren't like rom-coms and stuff.

Of course, e3 show in early June or so

The Nerds are back, and they have a delicious episode on Tap for you. This week the Nerds look at the Summer movie line-up. With the armoured Avenger leading the charge, what stands out in this season? Bungie may be making headlines this week with the release of the Halo: Reach beta, but it was there deal with Activision that has the world talking, the Nerds tackle this merger and predict what will come out of the partnership. Finally in Cocktail Chatter, they look at the current day Watergate, what its like to be a Hero for a day and a tales of tits gone wrong. Seat back, pull up a chair and spend an hour with the Nerds

Listen and enjoy. The whole process went much better so you can enjoy a nicer longer recording that's easy on the ears.

That's pretty much what I w as going to say.

Without the bloat of an origin story, they are usually able to spin a better tale. The problem than becomes the 3rd movie when directors want to take the heroes where they've never been before.

I mean Superman 3 (I believe its 3) was the one that featured the clone Superman getting drunk.

Spiderman 3 wanted to examine Spiderman's dark side.

X-Men 3 opened up Jean's dark psychic.

Batman 3 just changed tonal completely.

No suggestions, guys? Earl was saying that we probably shouldn't do IM2 since it would depend on people seeing it before Saturday or whenever we record.

Also we need a third guest for the show. Don't make me beg and plead to Earl to finally stop by to give his two cents for once.

When you do a search for the show's title, Wonka.com is right above GT.

Segment on candy of yore? Nerds, Dweebs, Crybabies, Warheads, etc.?

Also, it's up on iTunes now. Used the first logo. :(

I'm in, and I'll definitely be ready to talk about Iron Man 2.

I just want to say that I thought of Ask GameTavern as more of a second topic type of deal. It is, after all, a question submitted to "us." And I suggested it more as something to talk about when we have nothing else going on. Since we clearly have plenty to talk about this week, I would suggest we scrap the advice column for some other week and continue with each person's individual cocktail chatter. I personally thought it went rather well last time.

I know episode 3 is running a bit behind (its been recorded TWICE now), and I hope it is up soon, but trying to work on a schedule so we have to prepare for episode 4.

Magus will be unable to join us once again, so we have room for more folks to shower us with their best radio voice.

This week's episode

On Tap: With the upcoming series finale of both Lost and 24, and the news of Law and Order's cancellation, we take a look at how you end a TV show. And we make predictions for this past decade's biggest two shows.

House Special: The iPad. The battle for Flash.

Cocktail Chatter: As always our guests bring their most interesting news article to the table.

All this and morning, Sunday afternoon. Because there's nothing better for a hangover, than Nerds on the Rocks.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are just a TAD late this week, but finally after two recordings, The Nerds have returned.

This week Tony Stark joins the Nerds for a drink, and we promise he won't be dancing this time! Also, we look at the recent resurgence of 3D, but we all dream for a Holodeck. Finally, Cocktail Chatter ends the night before we give our last call. Some like it shaken, some like it stirred, but everyone loves their Nerds on the Rocks.

I didn't know I sounded like cartman, don't think I've ever gotten that one.

As for the name, Nerd/Nerds, I guess it depends on your taste. Either works for me, but since more than one person, I think prefer Nerds.

And segments, I generally framed it this way because you may not have enough content for an hour long discussion, like this week, we hardly have anything (?)

Teuthida
05-20-2010, 06:12 AM
For content just skim any comic, movie, or game site for news and pick a couple that have an opinion about.

This week Nathan Fillion has been rumored to be playing Ant-Man in Edgar Wright's new movie. (OMG!) You could have a new segment called Rumor Brew or The Rumor Brewery.

Can talk about the trailer for The Cape.

Earl, you can go on and talk about seeing Kevin Conroy and maybe get into some talk about Arkham 2...and it's connection to a 16-year-old girl's birthday party.

If there are any TV shows that all the hosts of that particular week watch you could talk about that.

I don't follow game news...there has to be something worth talking about. Release of some new game?

There's always technology and science talk if anyone is interested in a new device or discovery.

Xantar
05-20-2010, 11:39 AM
Perhaps next time you could focus on more topics, and not spend 20 minutes talking about the same thing.

With all due respect, I think that's a mistake. I could see us adding one more topic for a total of three topics plus cocktail chatter, but not more than that. I don't see anything wrong with discussing a single topic for 20 minutes. It allows us to get into the subject and really explore all the aspects. If we just try to run through a lot of topics, we're not going to have much of interest to say.

This. Perspective and discussion over a news rundown. However, if you guys decide to make a longer 'cast, then there's always the possibility of a news segment where, for however long, someone goes through popular news of the week or whatever

Dual Wielding is GT's newest podcast (because the first one is on such a great schedule :lolz: )

This is a more gaming-centric podcast that stars Uber_Paddler, Default and soccerant as they take you through the week in gaming.

This week, the gunslingers take us on a magical journey to the far reaches of space in Super Mario Galaxy, go Super in Street Fighter IV and look at things that go bump in the night with Alan Wake. In news, they cover the latest rumors about Project Natal, the announcement of Sonic Colors and of course the keytar. Finally, our hosts share their earliest gaming memories and even some nightmares. The guns are cocked and firing on all cylinders, let's get ready to Dual Wield.

My thoughts on it, it was a solid attempt at a first episode.

Like with Nerds on the Rocks, some technical issues hampered the episode.

SoccerAnt's mic was a bit odd, sounded like was fidgeting with it the entire time.
Uber still sounds a bit hollow when he speaks.
I think Default sounded fine.

Segments just kind of ended. People would finish a sentence and then music would play. I found that a bit odd.

The first segment was a bit of a drag, as it seems like not everyone played the other's game, which I think is fine, but next time I think should share what games talking about ahead of time so the other 2-3 can do some research and have a general idea about the game.

I thought the second segment really picked up as they started interacting more often, it it flowed better.

And by the 3rd segment, they really seemed to hit their groove. I expect more of that interaction during the whole cast.

As for personal criticisms, I guess just Uber has a tendency to be quiet for extended periods of time, I know don't want to talk over people nor want to talk nonsense, but there were stretches were almost forgot he was in the podcast.

I think Soccerant works well as the host, and he seemed to keep everyone on track. I think there was like one instance where he cut Uber off when was making a point and kind of forced to move onto a new conversation.

Default, again spoke a lot quieter than expected, but other than that was fine.

All in all, I enjoyed it.

Also dug the music, and the fade in at the beginning. Yes, I realize slightly bias since I picked all the tracks, but still.

With the site somewhat up and functional, I thought it was best to stop bogging down the forums with like 2-3 threads a week dealing with the podcasts.

This will serve as a general feedback thread for both podcasts.

And once we get further in the week will merge the other feedback threads.

In this special, mega-sized Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding podcast, the Nerds and the Gunslingers combine forces to talk about the biggest event in gaming, e3. They give their thoughts on Project Natal, PS Move, the 3DS, Zelda and so much more. So pull up a stool, grab a nice cold one (hopefully on the rocks) and enjoy this very special podcast.

Well to be fair, its a bit chaotic because we had 5 people on, which probably won't happen too often.

On the same hand, it makes the conversation seem more naturally when people are talking over each other/to each other. As opposed to, you speak, stop, someone else speaks, stops, responses.

Good show. Might have been my favorite which is really odd since I had no interest in what you guys were talking about. Just melded nicely. Very natural. And sounded like you guys had fun. Probably since before one people would have experience with what they were talking about while the others politely listened. Here everyone had ideas about things that were yet to happen and thus all had the same level of knowledge...something like that.

But seriously, I had no idea there were five people on the show until the very end when Xantar listed everyone. The whole time I thought there were four guys, two of which I had trouble telling apart. Turns out I had trouble telling apart three people. Need to up your accents or change where you pause like Christopher Walken, just something.

I grew up in Eastern KY and can do a pretty bitchin redneck accent. Maybe during the next podcast I'll bring that to the table for you.

On the same hand, it makes the conversation seem more naturally when people are talking over each other/to each other. As opposed to, you speak, stop, someone else speaks, stops, responses.Yeah but in a real conversation, there's non-verbal communication. So you'll see when somebody has something to say. Maybe you could send a typed message on Skype saying that you really want to speak your mind.
Another improvement would be the host asking people specifically. For that he'd probably need to keep track of who knows what.

Also, I believe it's Xantar: could you mute the 'received message' sound of Skype? Having to hear that sound in a podcast is unprofessional man, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

It's not my fault! Blame BAB and his sensitive microphone. And just be glad we weren't picking up his ring tone.

Anyway, I promised a list of song samples. All songs can be found at OCRemix:

1. Triforce Majeure by Disco Dan

2. Halo Insurrection by Kirby

3. Black Wing Metamorphosis by lots of people

Think you should add the links to the songs under the show notes on the Nerds on the Rocks website. Same deal for the articles you fellows discuss for Cocktail Chatter.

For once, I'm innocent.

I turn off all sounds on Skype when recording so my mic wouldn't pick up anything!

But yeah its something we need to work on for next time.

We tried last night, but it was difficult to find a 4th.

So we're going to aim for Saturday afternoon or so.

It will be another joint podcast effort in which we look at the big 3 press conferences. Touch on some major 3rd party games and what interested us.

Also if possible, would try and get SoccerAnt and/or Uber on the show since both had the chance to attend e3 and go hands on with some games.

And since we're already here.
Next Nerds on the Rocks, will be a review/discussion of Toy Story 3 and Pixar.

Dual Wielding will hopefully be a more in-depth e3 review when Soccer and Uber are back to working capacity.

So who can make it on Sat and what time works best.

There is a feedback thread up top/stickied, but I will use that to bookmark all the podcast and feedback after the week is up.

I doubt many people would look in the thread weekly to see if a new episode was added.

Last week was a busy week for the video game nerds as the biggest show of the year came and went. We had exciting announcements of new games and new hardware. We got out first real look at the 3DS, Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s PS Move. So this jumble sized convention called for another team-up between the Nerds and our resident Gunslingers. We discuss the big 3’s press conference and which 3rd party made this biggest splash. So grab a drink, sit back and enjoy.

As always feedback is most appreciated.

The two guys normally on the show who went to E3 weren't there for the E3 wrap-up. *sigh*

Solid show I guess. Once again wish I cared about what you gentlemen were talking about. Though I am considering watching Konami's conference now. And surprised to hear Shadowfox is still alive. It's been years since heard his name.

Think you guys might have the show too planned out. Don't believe there was a single tangent or a difference of opinion.

Then you'll be happy to know I had you in mind for that episode. :p

I think as it stands, I had you, Magus, Takesgiantsteps and Uber as the 4 contenders for that episode.

~Edit!~

Had some ideas while walking about town.

There's a new podcast up. The topics are Toy Story 3, Violence in videogames, and of course Cocktail Chatter. Meanwhile, Magus takes over his old hosting duties and Xantar vows revenge.

Also a shout out to Default for his "Guile Theme Goes with Everything" thread. We were so inspired that we made up one of our own and inserted it at the end.

I'll post links to the interstitial music later.

The Nerds are out to prove once and for all that the Guile theme goes with everything! In addition, we also talk about random things for like an hour. We discuss the glory of Lord Pixar, and their latest divine gift, Toy Story 3. We get into the subject of video game violence (only one cast member suffers a fatality during the recording) and as always we end the day with some Cocktail Chatter. Everything from The Superman of Hippies to Ocarina of time Vs Twilight Princess. As always the first drink is on us, and of course its on the Rocks.

3. "Guile Theme Remix" by DJ Barry

Really enjoyed this one, but sadly I had to skip the TS3 talk.

EDIT: Was asked to do a more indepth analysis. Ok reasons why better than the last two. Instead of talking about a certain thing you had a broad topic for which to take sides. That led to an actual conversation with differing opinions. Usually you'd talk about something, everyone pretty much agrees, and then you would move onto another topic and repeat the same format. I think you'll naturally keep improving if you stick to the same folks and get more comfortable talking to each other. Real conversations are more enjoyable than merely having a hit list of things to talk about. Babs had told me you folks would talk while not recording before or after the show. I think those conversations would be more interesting than being overly structured.

And not sure if Babs mentioned the GT talk. In the past you'd mention GT or a forum member in passing without explaining it. Have to assume you have more listeners than the ones here. So prefix item by saying "On our forum at GameTavern.net user so-and-so said so-and-so. Oh that kinky bastard." Or something like that.

The problem with the E3 podcast is I don't think there were very many places we could really disagree on. Everybody agreed Nintendo won the show. Everyone thought Kinect and Move were underwhelming after the hype and probably wouldn't sell very well. Everyone thought Kirby's Epic Yarn looked gorgeous.

But if you want Xantar to be opinionated, then I think that can be arranged.

As for the GT shout outs, I don't know about the others but I've deliberately avoided explaining them because it gives them a more inside joke feel.

I say "Bayg-l".

How the fuck do you say it. - Because saying "That's how Canadians say ____" is as ignorant as saying "Americans actually say 'yee-haw'" just because of some dude in Alabama - or, if you prefer; like saying "Black people do talk in ebonics."

Well the difference here, other than the joking is that both Uber and Default are Canadians, and they both represent two different areas of Canada, actually the far east and far west.

So found it odd that they both said it like that.

We're born with it, apparently

From Wikipedia:
The pronunciation and spelling of "bagel" varies among communities. In Canada, for instance, people from Toronto and Montreal, pronounce it like bay-gel, (the correct Yiddish pronunciation) -whereas people from the smaller towns of Northern Ontario and the east coast of Canada tend to pronounce the first syllable as bag-el, as in 'shopping bag' . In addition, some American bagel makers (particularly New England producer Zeppy's) spell the word "baigel", while maintaining the typical pronunciation.

So, uhh, first that's weird that someone researched this. Secondly, so there

First, its never weird when you find something on the internet. I discovered that clowns do more than bring kids joy recently....

Second, just because some of you Canadians got it wrong doesn't mean its right.

And in regards to the actual podcast, its odd that you folks mesh well together after a three week absence and only doing one show. Anthony even remedied my issue with segments just ending, though I guess next time could be done less obstructive :P

And finally in regards to the segment that dealt with Ant and I discussion. I would like to amend my statement, and say that I think graphics category should encompass all aspects.

I mean in the best interest, there should be a category for most technically sound game and most visually sound game, and they don't always have to be the same game. As he points out, games like Modern Warfare and stuff has an art style, but its so "generic" in a video game setting that it doesn't really stand out.

But on a technical level, you have to appreciate something like that. On the same hand, a game like Kirby would never win for sheer tech, but what it does with its resources creates a much more visually appealing game IMO.

So in conclusion, do away with graphics and split into visual/tech

This week, The Nerds will go saiyan!
Nerds on the Rocks will focus on Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood which recently concluded. I mean to make it a bit more exciting for folks, it should also be a general anime discussion.

Question of the Week: :ohreilly: To Be Determined

Cocktail Chatter: The Usual

Dual Wielding
Whatcha Been Playing? The usual gang takes us through the games they've been enjoying

News Rundown: Information to be Added

Retro/Remix Section: TBD

So feel free to suggest topics for both casts and what have you.

Alright so if Sunday is the recording day for Dual Wielding (usually) then I would suggest for NotR we can record Friday or Saturday at some time during the day?

I know we need to get Default and ze Paddler in on this one since we're going all out on anime (especially the amazing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood series) so when are people free?

I'm gonna try and get tgs in on it too since FMA is a biggie for him but I can work out a time with him with no issues.
