I mentioned in the other thread, we would have something to show in a week or so, and I guess now is a good of a time as any to reveal.

http://nerdsontherocks.com/

Will act as the GT main page, whenever we get it up and running. What we need now, at least from my view point (there are others working with me) is someone to help design the site, and make it look all nice and purdy.

And of course some early content. Whatever you want, but like we originally envisioned still want it to be like The Onion of nerdy news.

I'd be willing to do whatever.
'We' can practically assign me any task 'article'-wise, and I'll smile and contribute. It'll give me something to do with my ample time.

Out of curiosity, why did we decide to go with a totally different domain name, rather than making a front page for gametavern.net?

That would require (I do believe) vB to be updated.

There were several reasons, but the most important is when conceiving the website, I wanted it to be more than just games focused, and thought that GameTavern as a name would be limiting in its appeal for non-game content.

We have a functional front page up and running ATM.

www.nerdsontherocks.com

And it has been updated to include all of the podcasts so far.

And to kind of give an idea of what want the website to be.
Did an article this morning

I'm being told by my attornies that I can not take sole responsibility for the website launching.

So would like to give credit to Magus for all his work. Teuthida for most of our graphics (when they go up :p ) and TML for most of the technical mumble jumble.

I'm just the ringleader keeping everything in line.

The website is for everyone.

We need people to provide content and stuff for us.

So if you are game-d for anything.

And that goes for anyone, post in this thread if interested in providing some content. Reviews, previews, humor, art, anything.

That's actually not a bad idea, if you would be interested in doing it?

Anyhow, just spitballing some ideas for stuff if people want to try and do some articles

I'm gonna try and get Combine and Typhoid to do the Zombie Survival Guide, post a tip or two a week.

Was thinking of doing a Weekend, What's on Tap, where we recommend a drink a week, how to make it. Maybe folks can also post what drank that weekend.

Nerds Hall of Fame, highlight a nerd in media like once a week.

Community Watch, which would highlight a single thread from the week. Post some comments/excerpts from it on the main page.

I've actually been starting to prep my own tech blog, but I would totally rather do it under the GT / nerds on the rocks banner.

The more the merrier

What are you going to write about exactly?

I wouldn't be against roasting members, nor helping with a zombie survival guide.

Lord knows I enjoy insulting people and then telling them how to get away from the undead.

Mainly about the following industries: phones, computers, videogames, gadgetry in general, and their respective parent companies. I'm doing it from more of a business point of view however.

Cool cool.

The rest is more so I have my ideas down on paper.

Thinking of doing cross media themed weeks.

Like characters/franchises that cross over to another nerd-dom realms.

Like Sonic, Mario, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Batman, Spider-man, Star Wars, James Bond, etc

Some may work better than others but we shall see.

Very nifty idea! I'm not around much, and am a flake, but will definitely be checking it out regularly.

Sweet. I can help... with... something.

Its an infant site so throw ideas at me, and I'll see if it fits.

The problem I'm gonna run into is keeping it all thematic. :lolz:

Again more for personal notes, but its out in the open.

-A weekly drink suggestion. Perhaps nerd-related or tied into the site's theme for the week.
First one is the Nerd Bomb Shot

Nostalgia with a Twist for potential name.

To go with your recent tv watching: Sonic Screwdriver recipe (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinkb1c6388.html)

Know there's a bunch named after comic book characters. Any after video games?

What a nice guest post you've got on the front page there. You should get some more of those.

Ok, seriously, I do want to know what you guys think about the subject. Is this the end of stealth gameplay as we know it?

The person with the best track record of actually appearing on the show is a guest? Well ok...

Now whoever wrote the Elixir Mixer article is a frickin' genius and I'd gladly give him oral.

BreakABone

So the site has been up and running for like month and a half give or take, perhaps a bit more.

And been trying out different features to see what works, and what doesn't.

But now want to bring people in (well been trying, but now asking on the forums too!) so that we can get a more steady stream of content.

So if you have any interest in taking over any current series (outside of Zombies Guide and Elixir Mixer) or has ideas for a new feature. Let's hear it!

A delayed response:

Overall I disagree. I do see your points, but I thought that the stealth elements have always worked well enough in the Metal Gear Solid Series. Is some of it simply remembering where guards are the 2nd and 3rd times through? Sure. Does that mean it is any less fun? No, not to me anyways. I would be somewhat dissapointed if the next Metal Gear Solid rising goes away from stealth completley. Well, maybe I wouldnt be that upset because obviously Rising does not star Solid Snake. But I believe we will eventually see Metal Gear Solid 5, maybe starring Snake maybe not, and I will not be happy if it goes away with the stealth.

I guess the problem I have is that stealth mechanics as done by the Metal Gear series cannot be made more realistic. You can take a shooter and make it more realistic in ways that won't punish the player: better ballistics, better AI for enemies and squadmates, more realistic handling of vehicles etc. You can do the same with racers, sports games, flight sims and so on. The result might be a style of gameplay that doesn't appeal to everyone, but it won't actually break the game.

However, to make a stealth game more realistic is to inherently break its gameplay. Metal Gear Solid has a 50 second clock which resets all the guard routines (it's 50 seconds right? It's been a while) rather than having them stay on alert for the rest of the night because they know there is definitely an intruder. And it also doesn't allow the guards to communicate with each other to say things like, "I saw him in this room!" or "He left a dead body here. Now we can trace his path." These are things that would happen in real life, and their absence just keeps hitting the player over the head throughout the game. But if developers fixed that, the game would become impossible.

I understand these games are fun to play. I certainly like them. But I just don't see any way for them to evolve and grow the way they are. That's why I think the days "stay completely unseen" stealth gameplay are numbered while "stay unnoticed" stealth might be the future.
