Well it doesnt say its a continuation of the show.
Perhaps it will feature some of the previous avatars.
Either way I like the idea.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra is set to debut on Nick next year.

Nickelodeon said in a release that “The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra.”

Korra’s quest eventually leads her to Republic City–the epicenter of the world of “Avatar.” A metropolis powered by steampunk-type technology, the city is inhabited by people from all nations. Korra finds that Republic City suffers from rampant crime and is also dealing with an anti-bender revolt. Korra is tutored by Aang’s son, Tenzin, is the ways of airbending.

70 years after and the new avatar is a teenager?
That means Aang only lived for about 50-60 years.
Thats pretty young for an avatar.
As long as Shyamalan doesnt get near this I think it will be good.

Was kinda hoping to see the gang grown up. Maybe we'll see some of them.

I think we shall see/hear about some of them, but I like the think that the reign of Aang/Zuko was relatively peaceful.

Though Combine brings up a good point, I wonder how/when Aang dies? Is there a way for the Avatar to move onto another host without death?

It's a great decision to go with an all new Avatar. I liked Aang and the gang, but there was no story left to tell about them.

You should like this Babs. The co-executive producer is Joaquim Dos Santos.

Joaquim Dos Santos is an American television director of animated cartoons, best known for his directing work on Justice League Unlimited. He was a storyboard artist for Justice League before being promoted in the show's renamed third season. He went on to direct half of the episodes of JLU alongside fellow DCAU director Dan Riba, including the final episode "Destroyer". He joined the staff of Avatar: The Last Airbender in the middle of the show's second season as a storyboard artist, and began directing episodes in the third season, including the last two parts of the four-part season finale.

He also directed the mini-series G.I. Joe: Resolute. After that project, he moved back to Warner Bros. Animation, where he directed two "DC Showcase" short films: "The Spectre" (accompanying the "Justice_League:_Crisis_on_Two_Earths direct-to-video movie) and "Jonah Hex" (on Batman: Under the Red Hood). He has just been named as a co-executive producer on the upcoming series Avatar: The Legend of Korra.

Some fans have nicknamed him "Dr. Fight" because of his skill at choreographing fight sequences and action set pieces.

Found it kind of funny that a fellow who worked on the show linked to this cam version on his site as well.

I heard this will be a 2013 release.... Someone please tell me that is a filthy lie.

There were two websites (Dark Horse Comics website and Animation Insider) that was found that said 2013, it was a news for the Promise Comics. But they never shown nor explained how The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra was postponed to 2013, some people claim this is possibly a typo or a mistake.

So um....*shrug*
