Summer season is beginning and the megablockbuster movies are starting to roll out. And up here in my ivory tower, I started to wonder how you organic humans decide what movies to watch and when you pay attention to reviews.

For example, consider Iron Man 2. I'm going to see it. You're going to see it. The briefcase suit is more awesome than a thousand iPads. It pretty much doesn't matter what any reviewer says. I'm pretty certain that even if the movie is weak in an objective sense, I'll still enjoy it.

On the other hand, I didn't see the Star Trek movie until I read some reviews and found out that it was actually really good. And looking ahead to this summer, I'm going to probably read some reviews before deciding whether or not to fork over cash for Prince of Persia.

So which movies have you decided are review-proof and which ones are you adopting a wait and see approach?

Prince of Persia, I think it can go either way.

The only movie I can think I will see without checking reviews is probably Toy Story 3 and maybe Iron Man 2.

Others that I will check reviews: Inception (new Christopher Nolan), Nightmare on Elmstreet, Predators, Date Night, Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim

Without reviews: Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim, Iron Man 2

Sorcerer's Apprentice shall wait for reviews. Predators as well.

Inception I'll see eventually. Probably force myself to see earlier than would like so not spoiled by whatever the twist is.

I'll wait for Toy Story 3 on DVD. Haven't been blown away by their recent output.

I get 'em for free, so I just watch what appeals to me regardless of reviews or word of mouth.

I have no idea what is coming out this summer. I have slowly allowed Rotten Tomatoes to make all my viewing decisions for me. I just check RT periodically to see what is reviewed highly and consider seeing those.

Usually I don't, since it's hard to convince the girlfriend to go to a theater. She thinks she must have popcorn and candy and an icee and maybe nachos any time we go to the theater, "Otherwise, what's the point?" she says. I disagree, and I think I am slowly weening her off of that habit. The other problem is that she is inherently sleepy early in the evening. So unless we're watching a movie at or before ~6:30, then it's not gonna happen.

Oh....we were talking about in theaters?

Maybe Scott Pilgrim....maybe.....probably not.

I read reviews for every movie I watch. It's just so unpredictable these days, any movie could turn out bad.

However, there are some movies I'll go see regardless of if they get bad reviews. Iron Man 2 is one...The Expendables is another. I'll probably go watch Inception as well, Nolan is my favorite director.

I'm the same, I read reviews for all movies I see so the review has no real weight in terms of deterring me from shitty movies. Having said that, I do enjoy seeing a movie BEFORE reading reviews so I can see if the critics agree with me.

I feel obligated to revive this thread because of Nerds on the Rocks. :)

Yes, and thanks for that.

Let's see Iron Man 2 will still go see even with the reviews.
Will see Toy Story 3
and will most likely go see Scott Pilgrim vs the World, think everything else is up for reviews.

Figured would randomly bump this thread to say checked out Prince of Persia without really reading any reviews.

It was an enjoyable enough movie, not perfect, but not braindead.

I think it's one of those movies that looks so bad it might be good.
