Looks like more info is starting to come out about FFXIV, I guess they were waiting for FFXIII's release to start giving out info. It looks like the beta tests should be starting in the next month or two here..

Here are some screenshots:

And a little video:

And of course, the official site:

The speculation going around forums about this game is that they're limiting the amount of classes, and making it to where you gain abilities based off of which weapon you use. Not like FFXI where you get weapon skills based on the weapon, but actual abilities.

For example, if the warriorish class uses a polearm they may learn jump like a dragoon, if they use sword and shield they'd get advanced warrior techniques, and if they use a mace and shield they may learn some paladinish abilities... something to that effect. But that's 100% speculation.

I do like how all the races are split into two tribes each, though. And how there's far more customization then the older game.

Anyone here expecting to play this game?

I wonder if I'll be able to rent this for the PS3. Really need to try it before I consider a commitment.

I wouldn't be shocked if they offered free trials down the line.. Somehow I doubt the servers will be able to handle it all at first though.

I think I'm gonna gamble on it and buy it right off the bat. I think I'd regret waiting and falling behing the bulk of the population more then I'd regret giving the game an early try and not liking it.

I just hope it doesn't have some expensive starter kit like FFXI did for Ps2.

I assume it's an MMO.
I'd get it if there's no monthly fee. I think that'd be great.

I never played 11 - and I'm not sure why. I think the monthly fee thing is what was stopping me there, too.

I'd probably jump in to almost any MMO if there was no monthly fee. That's the great barrier: having to constantly pay. Adding another bill. Ultimately, I don't play one single game enough to want to constantly have to play an MMO in order for it to be worth it.

Yeah... Though, I will say when I started playing FFXI I went on my longest gaming purchase dry spell in my adult life. It managed to save me money just playing one game mainly, that was constantly kept getting new content.

I doubt any worthwhile MMORPG will ever be free though, unless they find a way to riddle it with ads to make up that revenue to keep the servers up to date, and add new content.

I beta tested this when it was in closed and open beta.

Will be honest, it's a really good free MMO.

It was originally a korean MMO and for those who don't know, Korean MMO games are generally free to play and they make their money from selling items for real life money, generally things like 2x exp items that last for a couple of days, mounts, 2x atk or magic items that last for like 2 days etc. Then also things to customize your character.
Korean MMOs are also generally pretty grind heavy, but 2 moons isn't bad honestly. Ended up playing it for about 2 months last year when my friends wanted to play an MMO. We all maxed our levels in those 2 months. It was pretty fun.

Yeah. I just find it ridiculous that they charge standard game price, and on top of that a monthly fee for playing a game you've already paid for on an internet connection you're also already paying for.

I guess it depends on your perspective on it. I don't count my internet connection as part of the cost.. the money that I pay for the game goes towards keeping the servers up and running, new content, and updates to keep the game balanced in case players find exploits.

I've yet to play a free online game that reacted to explots in a timely manner, and that kept the servers up. Of course, since it's free I couldn't complain, but I'd rather pay out the extra money to play when I want. I'm at the point where if a game is free to play online, it makes me want to play it less because I'm now used to having good servers and a controlled community.

I'm telling you guys, try out 2moons. It's really pretty good. Would say it's better than the majority of pay to play mmos with the exception of like WoW and a few others.
