So I'm helping plan a party that has a Winter Olympics theme. Since those Olympics are in Vancouver, Canada much of the theme of the food/beverage will be Canadian themed.

So, what should we have/make?

We've been in looking into finding some Canadian Microbreweries. Sure, we could have Molson or Labaat, but that's kind of boring. What are your favorites? I'm not even sure if we can even find them here (I'm not sure I've seen a Canadian microbrew in the States), but we might as well look.

Of course we'll have some Canadian Whisky and maybe some Yukon Jack. I'd have ice wine, but it's kind of expensive. Any other weird booze I should know of?

In terms of food, we don't have much. We've thought of Poutine which we'll have. We're gonna be cliche and have a lot of maple based desserts. We'd be having a lot of Candian bacon, but the guest of honor doesn't eat red meat.

So any suggestions for a good, traditional Canadian main course? I think we'll have some seafood, but I don't know. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Canadians!

Since the Olympics are in Vancouver, I think you shouldn't do a "Canadian" themed thing - but a West Coast themed thing. Because frankly, Canada tends to end at the rockies anyways.

It would be like us having a party for some celebratory thing taking place in Orange County, and having Philly Cheese Steak.

Molson and Labatt's are crap, first off. They're generic beer that people buy when they don't like things with taste.

The main Vancouver-based breweries are Rickard's and Granville Island. Both of which have really good beers. Okanagan Spring and Sleeman's are also good brands.

Canadian Bacon? Oh, you mean Ham. :p

Food in Vancouver is really a mix of Asian, French and typical Seafood.
Think things like sushi, salmon, crab, lobster, and lots of salad-y type things.
People in this city are health concious to a ridiculous degree.
Ginger beef is delicious, aswell.
And you can't forget about Nanaimo Bars.

But yes, obviously if you want to go with stereotypical Canadian "meals" or "foods", stick with poutine, pancakes, french toast and Kraft Dinner.

Edit: For drinks, just make Caesars. It's the same as a Bloody Mary, except replace Tomato juice with Clamato, salt the rim with celery salt, a few drops of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco sauce, add a stalk of celery, and enjoy.

Smoked Salmon?

They are really embracing the whole native part of the West Coast for the games.

You definitely have to have smoked salmon.

Also, if you have a quality meat shop nearby get some candied salmon/glazed salmon/indian candy, break it up, and mix it with cream cheese for the best spreadable you've ever tasted.
