So basically I have to create a book from scratch for a project at school.

I decided to basically make my own copy of "Who Goes There?" Its a 1938 novella that frightened a bunch of folk, and is the basis for "The Thing" movie. I have the text. ( If you want to read it: http://www.outpost31.com/books/who.txt)

The only real hard part was finding a cover image. I searched Deviant art and found the following.

So basically id like you opinion on the art, or if you even know or can find any more to please share (Or even create *wink wink Theuth). Keep in mind it will be for a small novella sized book, not a huge thing. I will not just use the picture my itself for the cover, Ill probs put it into some Adobe programs, see what I can do with it.

(Also I know this could be considered stealing and or illegal, but the way I see it; the book has been out for almost 100 years, and I doubt people who made fan art of the book will care if I use it for the book)

So get looking and please tell me what you think!

Also, whoever can make the best argument and help me decide, will get and honorable mention in the book!

You should ask Cirker to draw something for you, he would probably like drawing something like that.
Otherwise id say the first one is the best cause that was one of the most memorable moments in the movie for me.

Problem is I am on a tight schedule, only 1 or 2 weeks.

I think this would make for a good cover:

Art made from things under public domain are still covered by copyright. As long as it's just something for class and not making a profit off it, should be fine.

But you found it.

in place of your name I could put a hilarious sentence of your choice, tho it would have to be clean.

Oooh. Hmm...

"A mongoose's taint smells only half as foul as a pineapple floating in a sea of melted lycra."

Er, no. Will have to get back to you on that.

Hey Cam...could you make me a really short book (15 pages) for a short story called Obsolete?

I could get you the text, I'd just need it so I could show it to people without carrying around the book it's from (I'm planning on adapting it into a screenplay).

I would have voted for #1.
2 and 3 are too serious for what you're doing. 4 is just ugly.

Heres the cover as I have it now.

Bond made a point about the title font being hard to read, but I think it may be because it is so small. The real thing is 5"x7" so that might solve the problem. I still have to work out some typographic stuff in the synopsis text too.

"My goodness these mongooses are super absorbent. I can hardly taste the linoleum anymore."

or

"A man not tied to a washcloset is a dangerous man indeed."

or

Eh, you don't need anything from me. Good luck with project.

Pretty sweet.

I did an assignment like this, a book report in like 5th grade. It wasn't nearly as fancy though. The assignment was basically to create a new cover and write a synopsis on the back, much like yours seems to be. But instead of actually getting a print shop to do it, I just made the thing out of regular paper and cut it and folded it to fit the book, and made some drawing myself. This was before computers, the internet, and photo printers were as common as they are now. Yours looks like a real book.

I didnt go to a print shop to get it done, I made it myself using this:

I'm taking a print media course. The main goal was the technical aspect of the books construction, and making sure the cover was designed so that the text actually aligned with the spine.

Just the shelf i was closest to at the time. I guess it would have made mode sense to take the picture where i keep my books, but oh well.

Also there are 3 more shelves of DVDs that you are missing out on that were not pictured. :p

Not really on the subject anymore, but had this discussion yesterday with others, what do you do with sequels that aren't gonna follow their sequels in alphabetical order?

Like The dark Knight or Live Free or Die Hard.

Hahaha

well lucky for me I havent ran into that problem yet.

My parents own the die hard trilogy, i just have the 4th. My dark got the Dark knight the day it came out, and i just have Batman Begins, Gotham Knight, and Mask of the Phantasm.

Okay another question, do you use "A", "An" and "The" when sorting your DVDs or do you ignore them?

As you can tell, I don't sort my collection alphabetically, just curious how it works since I like to keep things in mind.

More examples I can think of, American Pie, American Pie 2, American Wedding.

A Goofy Movie, An Extremely Goofy Movie

Sure can think of more when actually go through my collection.

Fox 6

I do not count "A" "An" or "The". If you can see, I have The Last King of Scotland, in the L section.
