Iwata confirmed that the Zelda Wii sequel will be released in 2010.

This of course confirms that it will be delayed later this year and actually be released in 2011.

I literally laughed out loud at the title and then explanation. Funny stuff.

This is so true, if this game releases in 2010 I'll go streaking through Wal-Mart.

Predicted release date: March, 2011.

Technically we can't make any predictions until we see it at E3. It's still around 5 months until that, and they've been dormant since Twilight Princess. They could have a pretty solid game by now.

Twilight Princess was delayed purely because of the Wii facelift and was ready to be released on time in April of that year.

I have no doubt it'll arrive in time for the holidays this year. Not sure why you guys are doubting it, does Nintendo have a history of delaying Zelda games? Not from what I can recall, other than Twilight Princess for obvious reasons.

Wind Waker was delayed from 03 to 04

I believe OoT was delayed several times.

Not sure about Majora's Mask.

And the Capcom games.

With that said, I don't know if they need it this year with Mario Galaxy 2 and metroid: Other M, but we shall see I guess.

And if it does, we get to hear about Jason being arrested.

I figured Angrist would have broken this news.

Time zones foil the Dutch once again.

Oh I knew about it yesterday. :) I just didn't realize it was worth its own topic. :D

Anyway, I also have good hopes that it will be out this year. I assume they've been working on it since 2006.
But it won't shock me if it'll be delayed.

One other thing: 2010 could be for Japan only. Although lately Nintendo has been releasing its games almost worldwide at the same time.

OoT is infamous for multiple delays.

Yes, just to clarify, I was referring to in the United States. I suppouse there is a slim chance it will be released in Japan by years end.

Not really a sequel since the first game was a crossover Cube/Wii title that was not exclusive (and seemed to be designed for the Cube primarily).

I have never been this unenthusiastic for a Zelda title though. Maybe I'll be more impressed when they show a trailer.

Yeah thoroughly not excited. Doubt I will be impressed.

I've been excited for 2-3 years now. :) But I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I'll pose the question here since already asked Moogle, curious the other side as well.

How can one feel one way or another about this game? We know next to nothing besides a piece of artwork and that it will feature motion controls, we haven't seen anything.

So how can one be excited or not excited for this game? Where the hell are the expectations coming from?

manasecret

The expectations come from a long list of golden Zelda games before it.

But I don't have a true visceral feeling about it one way or the other yet. You're right in that I'll have to actually see a true preview of the game before I feel anything about it. Which explains why people are not excited for it, because there's nothing been shown to get excited about. And for all those that hated or disliked Twilight Princess, their expectations must be pretty low.

Never played a Zelda game I haven't loved, I doubt this one will change that.

What Vampyr says. And my expectations come from the snippets of news we've had. Great working sword controls, using TP as a basis and building upon that, doing what they couldn't do in TP...

Speaking on the Nintendo (http://games.ign.com/objects/025/025047.html) Weekly show (via Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1tZF9xC9qU)), President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime (http://stars.ign.com/objects/963/963431.html) stated the company will be taking its time with the upcoming Zelda title for Wii, and that it won't see a release until its perfect.

"Right now, it's still in development. But the key message that Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Aonuma is telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches," he said. "That really is what the Zelda fan is expecting."

"So for all of those Zelda fans out there right now, I would say enjoy The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (http://ds.ign.com/objects/143/14333936.html), and know that the Zelda title for Wii is going to come out when it's perfect," he said.

Fils-Aime's comment doesn't exactly mesh with an earlier report saying the new title would ship in 2010.
ORLY? Man, I never saw that coming. Oh, wait, I did. I'm awesome.

Well, sounds like Nintendo has secured a solid Fall 2010 lineup with the promise of a release of a Zelda game at some time in the future.

BreakABone

The reading of that quote has been iffy, it doesn't NOT confirm it will come out in 2010, there's a lot we don't know about the game. Actually next to nothing, who knows maybe its been in development since TP came out, and 4 years is enough time to get it "perfect"

And as noted before, I don't think Nintendo needs Zelda this year, they already have Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M as their big game for the year. And sprinkled around with minor hits and some third party stuff like Epic Mickey.

I was just joking. The quote obviously neither confirms nor denies a 2010 release, but it sure seems to jive with my original post.

Can someone explain to me how Metroid: Other M is a big game? We all know it's not going to ship more than 1.5 million units in its worldwide lifetime.

Other than that, with SMG2 I don't think Nintendo 'needs' Zelda this year. It might even hurt sales to launch them in the same season.

Uh... What?

Even people who generally don't like metroid are pumped because it's being developed by Team Ninja.

Imma go ahead and say you're wrong.

So there are a bunch of online fanboys who happen to like both Metroid and Team Ninja. So let's add 50.000 sales. Still won't be a huge game.

It's just that I'm not impressed at all by what I've seen of Other M. And it's still Metroid, it doesn't excite the masses. And I don't think Ninja Gaiden ever was a million-seller.

Jason1

Im pretty sure the Prime series sold a lot of copies...I think Other M could be a pretty big game.

Hmm... Interesting? Let's see where metroid lies on this list?

And also here is where both Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime: Corruption sold over 1 million copies each. That doesn't include the trilogy pack.

Metroid was never a big deal though.

Angrist

Bah, GoW 3 is terribly gory. I guess that's what the fans want these days?

I still predict that Metroid: Other M won't sell anything like the other mature games on other consoles. Perhaps 2 million lifetime sales. That's good, but nowhere near Mario/Zelda/Halo etc.

And watching the gameplay footage, I still don't see what's so exciting.
