I figured to make it easier from now on, shall just label my thread titles with letters so folks know what to expect. F for facts/figures, O for opinion, R for Rumours, etc.
Anyhow, seeing how this is the start of 2010, we shall finally start to get some finalized sales figures for the prior year. I'm sure most don't care, but I've always been partial to them since the XboxAddict (doubt any of you know that forum) days.
And since Japan is the only one that really works on a weekly system, here are the totals from 2009.

Now from the hardware sales, it seems like this is the PSP's only hot market for the most part, even though the PSP Go really hasn't been doing too hot.
The Ps3 and Wii engaged in a bitter battle throughout the course of the year, but a narrow win.
The 360 has made inroads in Japan, but I guess they really aren't accepting of the console/company.
As you can see from the number, the Japanese market is much much much smaller than the North American one, and even European one.
And seems like traditional RPGs are the way to go.
NPD releases their numbers for the year, next week Thursday I believe. Not really show how Europe works as they realize weekly listings but don't believe you get actual numbers.

Australian sales figure.. er well for consoles than the ranking of games for the year.
According to Guillemot, Assassin's Creed 2, which launched in November 2009 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, has shipped 8 million copies. The original Assassin's Creed had sold just as many by June 2009 -- roughly 18 months after its debut.
Electronic Arts has revealed that last year's iteration of its annual football title, FIFA 10, had sold 9.7 million units by the end of December 2009 - just shy of a major landmark in 10 million, but one that it's likely to have passed in the last month.
In an LA Times piece about Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig it’s noted that Sony has sold through 2.5 million copies of the PlayStation 3-exclusive GOTY scooper to date — a feat accomplished with about four months on the market.
Leading video game developer BioWare(TM), a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced today that Dragon Age(TM): Origins has sold-in over 3.2 million* units worldwide.

I assume this didn't track cell phone games? They're very popular in Japan. Mostly because Japan has the best Cell phone structure. All ran by one company, great coverage etc. And those damn things are like mini-computers/cameras/video cameras. CRAZY!
Well, all regions are pretty different, in subtle ways, but yeah Japan tends to stand out.
And not sure how you track cell phone games, same with digital downloads, I mean its easier to get numbers from the platform holders, but those would be different from these 3rd party numbers.

Now from the hardware sales, it seems like this is the PSP's only hot market for the most part, even though the PSP Go really hasn't been doing too hot.
The Ps3 and Wii engaged in a bitter battle throughout the course of the year, but a narrow win.
The 360 has made inroads in Japan, but I guess they really aren't accepting of the console/company.
As you can see from the number, the Japanese market is much much much smaller than the North American one, and even European one.
And seems like traditional RPGs are the way to go.
NPD releases their numbers for the year, next week Thursday I believe. Not really show how Europe works as they realize weekly listings but don't believe you get actual numbers.

Australian sales figure.. er well for consoles than the ranking of games for the year.
According to Guillemot, Assassin's Creed 2, which launched in November 2009 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, has shipped 8 million copies. The original Assassin's Creed had sold just as many by June 2009 -- roughly 18 months after its debut.
Electronic Arts has revealed that last year's iteration of its annual football title, FIFA 10, had sold 9.7 million units by the end of December 2009 - just shy of a major landmark in 10 million, but one that it's likely to have passed in the last month.
In an LA Times piece about Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig it’s noted that Sony has sold through 2.5 million copies of the PlayStation 3-exclusive GOTY scooper to date — a feat accomplished with about four months on the market.
Leading video game developer BioWare(TM), a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced today that Dragon Age(TM): Origins has sold-in over 3.2 million* units worldwide.

Haha Japan is so different from the US.
I assume this didn't track cell phone games? They're very popular in Japan. Mostly because Japan has the best Cell phone structure. All ran by one company, great coverage etc. And those damn things are like mini-computers/cameras/video cameras. CRAZY!
Well, all regions are pretty different, in subtle ways, but yeah Japan tends to stand out.
And not sure how you track cell phone games, same with digital downloads, I mean its easier to get numbers from the platform holders, but those would be different from these 3rd party numbers.
