Cyrax is a potential convert. Bluefire went from Mac to PC, and now he's regretting it. Possible re-convert.
Not our fault people here have bad taste :)

Hmmm...I thought they'd put Macs under the Gear section.
Oh well. One more IGN section for me to visit. I wonder where they're going to put the iPod...
*waits for a comparison article on chat programs*

POTENTIAL CONVERT! POTENTIAL! If I can't "build" a Mac with Linux on it, I'll buy one, their is no @#$$%^ing way I'm using WinXP and that is that.

Can't build Macs. Could buy a sweet-ass Mac, and stick in a 2nd HD and install Linux from that.
Or hell, just use OS X. It is backed by Unix.

I'm close to converting, but I'm not sure I have the money to buy a whole new computer when I could just upgrade my PC. But I use Macs all the time; both my brothers have one and pretty much all my family realizes how **** Windows is and would convert if there weren't some pitfalls to it. And all we used were Macs for working on my high school newspaper.
So...

Ok mana, you've been added to the "possible converts". What kind of Mac would you get if you were to get one?

I'd probably go all out. Dual gigs with 1GB RAM (since many places will give you a free stick if you buy 512MB with it), the top-o-the-line Geforce 4, and DVD-R Superdrive. But expensive isn't even the word for it, and those iMacs with there easy to swivel but still manage to stay in place screens are pretty high on the 'ol mana's cool factor scale that I just made up.
What really entices me with Macs, though, is all the i-software that comes packaged in. I wrote an article on the new iMac, and so in researching I realized how sweet all the free software is. I mean, with iMovie I might actually buy a camera and make some stupid movies (which I also played around with in a store). Then iTunes, iPhoto, and iDVD, all things I could put to good use (though I bet iPhoto isn't all that great). Then just OS X alone...
Anyway, I'm just repeating what you guys already know. On the bad side, since I think the major portions of Macs aren't really upgradeable (unless they are and I don't know), buying a whole new computer instead of upgrading when the one becomes too old doesn't seem enticing.
What can I say, I'm torn. But I won't have near the amount of money I need until the end of the summer, so I have some time to think..

You bet iPhoto isn't all that great? Damn, you're really wrong. iPhoto kicks a ton of ass. Makes using a digital camera a lot easier, and better.
And on a Dual giggy, you can upgrade the HD(s), any PCI slots, the video card, and add an airport card. You can't switch motherboards and processors, and that crap. But you can keep up with the current video card, and add a new HD if needed. That's all most people do. I wouldn't suggest upgrading the processor on a PC either for that matter.
On iMacs you're much more limited.

What is wrong with Windows XP? I don't have it, but I've been hearing that it wasn't all that great. I might be getting a new computer within a few months, but I don't even know what the advantages or disadvantages of Macs and PCs are.

Ok, time to convert you. Advantages of PCs: More games. Advantages of Macs: Everything but games.
Breif summary of Macs advantages, without any detail or explaining:
1) Easier to use
2) More stable
3) No hardware conflict issues
4) Far less problems
5) More standard features
But if you get a Mac, wait until after Macworld New York in July. We're supposed to see 1.5Ghz G4s with a faster FSB and DDR.
