The Dark Knight's single day box office record has been broken:

I stand corrected.

Earlier today, I speculated that, while New Moon did break The Dark Knight's and Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince's midnight box office records, Batman's single day record of $67.2 would still stand.

Well, The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $72.7 million, leaving Batman's record in the dust. And it didn't take a leading actor's death to propel it either. Yeah... I said it.

Apparently dismal reviews for New Moon didn't stop tweeners from coming out in droves in support of the sparkling vampires and shirtless lycanthropes.

If this keeps up, Batman's $158 million three-day record may be in jeopardy as well.

Frankly, that's a world I don't want to live in.

:lolz:

edit: And yes, I did contribute to that.

Twilight is the experience of being 13 years old. Every decision you make is the most important decision of all time, every emotion you feel is the most intense emotion ever experienced, and the first cute boy/girl you kiss is the love of your life.

The story and movies are terrible, but I understand their popularity.

On the bright side, looks like The Dark Knight remains the weekend box office champ, and I think New Moon will die off before it reaches The Dark Knight's long term record.

At first I was upset at this, but then you think about it and Twilight is just the opposite end of the spectrum to Batman.

Batman is a movie that is pretty focused on the male 18-34 year old audience. It is a movie made for people like us.

Somewhere on the internet, I'm sure there are tons of tween girls who hold Twilight in the same regard we hold video games, and they came out in doves... and they bought along their boyfriends... and there was also Vamp.

I feel like these records are broken every 2 years or so. Movie prices go up, so it's inevitably easier to break the record when the next box office smash comes out. The next Batman will probably break it. That or Spiderman 4 or something.

Nah, they'd have to do something special to break it with Spiderman or any other superhero title.

I accidentally watched the first Twilight in a theater (yes, accidentally, I didn't know what it was, just went in with some friends) and before the first half ended, I was half bored to death. After the movie ended, I learned that there was more to come. And vowed to never watch any of them.

I saw the first Twilight some weeks ago, it was better than expected. I enjoyed it. :)

Of course I won't watch any sequel in cinema.

The world has been righted, well Twilight is still the number 1 movie... there was a 70% drop in its second weekend, which is well huge.

Makes it the 51st highest 2nd weekend drop.
