Anyone else here have it?

It released a little over a week ago, but I've been using the release candidate for a while now.

It's a superb OS, so much better than Vista, in every way possible.

My dad's been using it, but I never tried it out on his computer.. I did use the RC for some time though..

I'm thinking of buying it if I can buy an extra 1gb of ram for my netbook.

Got it a couple months ago when it was released to devs, and upgraded Vista Business with it. Few minor changes to the UI which I absolutely hated and switched back to old ways. Other than that, it looks and acts the same as Vista. I'm fairly certain the vast majority of changes are under the hood, and from a developer point of view, I find that good, but from a consumer point of view, I couldn't care less.

If you're using XP, you should've upgraded to Vista a long time ago. Unfortunately, you waited, and now Win 7 won't let you upgrade, so you'll be doing a clean install (which is my biggest complaint). If you're using Vista, I wouldn't rush to upgrade unless you find a good deal on it. From a user perspective, it's practically the same, and I wouldn't pay $150 for it if you're running Vista. I haven't heard anything that's only coming out for 7 without also coming out for Vista (ie. Direct3D 11, Direct2D, etc.). It's actually kind of humorous because I installed Win 7 the same day Snow Leopard came out. Snow Leopard was mainly changes under the hood, and so is 7, so after wasting several hours of my life watching the installers, I had to search hard to find any changes.

Looking similar does not make it the same thing. It doesn't make any sense to complain that your OS upgrade didn't do anything just because of the lack of visual differences - why would they change the way something looks just for the hell of it?

XP users who didn't switch to Vista were smart, and now is a great time to finally upgrade. You've been using the same OS for a very long time...I think you can afford to finally spend some money on an upgrade.

Windows 7 is much better than Vista - it runs faster and more efficiently, doesn't crash ever, and has a ton of productivity features added in. The changes were mostly under the hood, but it has made things better in every way.

Every single time I have used Vista, both on other peoples computer and my own, has been a horrible experience.

Also, if you're part of the MSDN, you get Windows 7 for free.

I'm still using Vista. Not looking into 7, because I'm poor and I don't think I need it.

On the other hand, I'll only be a student for another month. I might be able to find a nice deal.

Is this one of those upgrades where you need a stronger PC to run the new Windows properly? Or does it really run better than Vista?

I've been using Win7 since it came out (thank you amazon 'free' release day shipping). I like it for the little things. Mostly love the enhancements to Media Center since my laptop is my mini-htpc (along with the external drive that holds them all). Got Win7 back when they had the pre-sale for $50 so I couldn't refuse that.

I also somehow got Win7 to give me a BSOD already :lolz: . NO CLUE how I did it because it was sitting idle at the time.

It doesn't run worse. Don't know if I would say it runs better, the only noticeable improvement I have is waking up from sleep, my keyboard and mouse get power quicker. If you're running Vista, you should be fine for Windows 7.

This smells of somebody who hasn't used a recently patched version of Vista. Anybody who had Vista with the latest patches has seen most of what Windows 7 has to offer. Vista is in a much better place than it was when it first launched. Netbook owners are the main group that will see a notable speed increase over Vista. There were some multi-core optimizations, though nothing as extensive as Snow Leopards Grand Central Dispatch (OS X also has better OpenCL implementation).

On the surface, you're going to notice a different taskbar (more like OS X's dock) and some screen management options for organizing/resizing windows (essentially a poor execution of Exposé).

Don't get me wrong, I like Windows 7 (I'm tri-booting with Ubuntu and Snow Leopard). But I can't believe anybody thinks it's worth what Microsoft is charging for it.

I heard all the bad things about Vista from the start most definitely. It was hard not to hear the derision for it. Things may have improved for Vista since then. But for me there was little reason to upgrade from XP for two main reasons

XP works. It's stable for everything I do. And I personally like using XP.
My job requires a lot of our own proprietary software and hard-to-find and altogether ancient (in computer terms) 3rd-party software. There is no guarantee any of that software would work on Vista, or that we could find equivalents.
If I were in high school or college and still doing a lot of PC gaming and building new computers, I probably would have gone Vista long ago. But now that most of my computer time is work time, stability and software availability (XP) is far more important that newness and flashiness (Vista).

I have to agree with you and Gekko on this topic.

I just have this feeling that a lot of people are jut buying into the hype of windows 7, but I've yet to see or hear about a worthwhile upgrade included in this OS.

And Vista is not buggy on unstable anymore, it was just that way when it launched. I had XP up until a year ago and switched to Vista.. and have yet to have even one issue with it.

The Anti-Vista people are really dumb. Vista is solid and I haven't had any problems with it minus my own hardware issues. I have no reason to rush and get Windows 7 but I do plan on upgrading. I'm really in the market to build a Desktop PC but I need a job first. I really need a big tower with like 4 Terabytes of space. And a kick ass GPU. And some good cooling.
