This guy!

Well, I finally did it. I proposed to my girlfriend of three years and she said yes!

I proposed on Mackinac Island. She had no idea. As far as she knew, we were just going up there for the day on Saturday, but after I proposed and she said yes, I surprised her with a hotel room for the night as well as let her know that I already called her boss and got her off work on Monday so we could have a nice long weekend. Wish us luck as we begin the planning process!

Here's a high quality picture of the ring from the company I bought the diamond from.

Congrats! Your life just changed forever... in a good way.

Couple of things for the wedding:

1) If your fiance wants it, say yes. Obvious one.
2) Pay attention to the band/DJ suggestions. They do this for a living and know how to get people dancing and having fun.
3) Have fun at your wedding. People follow the bride and groom and if you spend all your time shaking hands and meeting "obligations" your guests will spend the time waiting for you at their tables and won't get on the dance floor. You have fun = they have fun.
4) Don't settle. Weddings are big business, and there are a lot of people who can meet your needs. Me? We dumped our venue and caterer two months before the wedding and dumped the hotel the day before the wedding and everything worked out great.
5) Start planning now. You'll need the time.

We (GT) need to provide a communal gift for the wedding. Ideas?

We're a pretty mature forum now, I think we're going to see this popping up more and more.

Congratulations! Is that Pepsi she's holding?

And Bond, we can't discuss that here... we need a forum where Jeepnut can't come to!

You're not having a bar at your wedding?
In all honesty, I find that a touch odd.

Or maybe he thinks all you Canadians are alcoholics who mix your drinks 99% alcohol and 1%... juice.

Can't imagine a wedding without a bar... told all my friends... open bars.. or save the invite.

But apparently it gets expensive.

Open bars are pretty expensive. But I mean it all depends on what type of liquor you get for the bar itself. More than not, the ones I've bartended have just been various beers and wine. But a few of the pull out the stops and get lots of bottles of hard liquor, but that's a lot rarer.

The one thing I've noticed, is that you never want to do a pay bar at a wedding. Ever. Not even those dorky drink coupons. The weddings I've done that have open bars, I've noticed something - everyone, everyone is happy. Clearly because A) It's a wedding and B) They're not spending money for the booze. As soon as you make people spend their own money some people get grumpy because they realize later in the night they dont have enough money for a drink, yet want one - so they take it out on the bartender. Not fun. (That's a lie, it's semi entertaining.)

Oh trust me, there will be a bar. I just don't feel comfortable letting you tend it. :p

Considering bartending is my job, that's insulting.:(

No need, according to the highly educational cable television, everyone has a pretty good idea what you Canadians are like...all farty with your heads flapping around:

I will never ever consider having an open bar at my wedding. With my grandma there, that would be a god damn disaster.

Free drinks but two (maybe three) drink maximum.

So many congratulations, Jeepnut! Enjoy the engagement sex.

I bet your grandma has had plenty of drunk sex in her time. I bet she still plays with her clam. Clam rockin' grannies ftw!
