And welcome back to another GT: Let's Play! The cheesy logo returns!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/scarz0ftime/letsplay.jpg
This month, we'll be tackling another Zelda favorite (or Zelda's black sheep to some): Majora's Mask!
http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Soundtracks/Majoras%20Mask%20Front%20Large.jpg
This was our next adventure by popular demand so once again here are the rules!
Instructions
- Obviously, you'll need a copy of the game! Whether it be the original N64 cart,
the Wii VC version, or the GameCube special edition disc. If you own a copy of the game, then emulation
is always an option since you can provide screen caps of your journey if you choose.
(REMINDER: ROMs are illegal if you do not own the game so PLEASE do not emulate unless you own the game you're emulating!)
- Make notes of anything and everything! Part of the fun of Zelda games is their tendencies
to be linear and non-linear at the same time. So if you took the extra step to get a heart
piece or make yourself rich by killing baddies, or whatever it wouldn't hurt to show how
your playthrough was unique for you!
- GT's servers can only handle so much (and this is me assuming because I don't really know),
so if you're going to use attachments, please use them sparingly. If you want to upload a lot
of pics, try using a Photobucket account or something, and to lower the quality or size of the
picture to make the pages load faster if possible.
- I'm going to try making notes throughout playtime about how my runthrough went, since it'll be
good to not jump ahead of everyone else. I think this effort would work much better if we all posted
our collective summaries at the end of the week to compare. But to each their own, I can't order anyone
around.
- This is not a race. I'm trying to give enough time for everyone to move at their own pace, and
also give time for other things as well. We all have social lives (except for BaB).
- Have fun! This is a classic that should be enjoyed as much as possible for years to come!
The GT Let's Play of Majora's Mask has begun!
The first milestone is completion on Snowfall Temple by Friday the 18th!
The second milestone is completion of the Great Bay Temple by Fridady the 25th!
October 2 is the deadline for completion of the game!

Let's all hold hands for this one, I have actually started this one, but the time concept was a bit daunting so think will be needing tons of help with this

I would join in, but I don't have my N64 at school, and I don't feel like buying it on the virtual console if I already own the game.

I might be a little late starting - I'm trying to finish twilight princess first. I should be able to start in time to beat it, though.

If I had the game, I'd do it.
Not going to partake in this one but I thought of a cool game to play for one of these later on.
Shadow of the Colossus.
A great game. It's been awhile since I have dusted off my PS2 and this would be the perfect opportunity.
And if you have not played it yet then you really should

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would be nice if we could do a Ico/Shadow of the Colossus thing for one month but Ico is hard to find if you don't have it already and it doesn't come cheap. My copy cost me 50 bucks on eBay! Or was it Half.com?

I'll join these MMask Shennanigans.
My friend Josh and I played this game together back in the day when we were in high school. We got all the masks and even the great fairy sword. It was a really fun time and Game. I'm starting here in a minute.

Today I started the game. Here are some photos from the start of my Journey:

I just started there's my name!
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/102.jpg
LINK HE COME TO SAVE! COME TO SAVE THE PRINCESS ZELDA! Wait... Not in this game.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/103.jpg
Sometimes link does this little flip in when he jumps in this game. I forgot about that.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/104.jpg
THE SKULL KID!
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/105.jpg
NOT EPONA! NOOOOOO!
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/106.jpg
Piss! He turned me into a deku scrub... Link is not happy at his water reflection.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/107.jpg
This is not Navi, but she'll do for now.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/108.jpg
This man says he can help me get back to normal.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/109.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/110.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/111.jpg
This game is played over the span of 3 "In game days" which works out to roughly two hours real time. At the end of the 3rd day something bad will happen, where the moon slams into the earth! WTF?!
So anyway this fairy says "Go find the great fairy, you don't even have 3 days now" So I set off to find the great fairy.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/112.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/113.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/114.jpg
Along the way I run into everyone's favorite middle-aged elf. Tingle! TINGLE TINGLE Kooloo Limpah! These are tingles magic words he made up, don't steal them.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/115.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/116.jpg
I make it to dat Fairy fountain, turns out the fairy is all split up into pieces. And yeah, skull kid did it.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/117.jpg
After I found the missing chunk of great fairy she turned back to normal. Turns out she's a french whore. She loves me.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/118.jpg
She gives me the power of magic and stuff, makes me feel all better. Tells me to talk to the guy at the observatory. Turns out there's this gang of kids blocking the way to the observatory though, and they're little jerks. So I have to pop this balloon with my new found bubble ability, and then play hide and seek. Not fun.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/119.jpg
Finally I catch them all, and they tell me their secret code. I make it to the observatory and the old man there tells me to look through the telescope at the clock tower!
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/121.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/122.jpg
What is that shit really? Gonna have to mess up a skull kid. Turns out the clock tower only opens up on the eve of the carnival every year. Pretty lucky that the eve of the carnival is midnight of the 3rd day, huh? Yeah... So now I wait until midnight on day 3. Lol.
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/123.jpg
Found him
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/124.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/125.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/126.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/127.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/128.jpg
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/theslymoogle/129.jpg
So I get my ocarina back, remember the song of time, and blast my way back into the past to find myself some powers of ass-kickery. Maybe a better sword, a bigger bag for rupees, who knows what I'll find on my journey? All I know is that I will be messing skull kid up for this shit. So anyway I play the song of time and GTFO and save. I'll play some more tomorrow.

the song of double time and the song of backwards time shall be your friends BaB.
Song of double time = c right, c right, a, a, c down, c down. This will speed the rate of time up.
Song of backwards time is obvious but = c down, a, c right, c down, a, c right. This will slow down time significantly.
HAX that the game gives you for free. You learn about both by talking to some people. I don't remember which peoples though.

I think that the scarecrow who lives in the tunnel area leading to the observatory mentions how to play those songs, but you don't even need to talk to him.

I was going to do the first dungeon but felt like was missing something so warped back to the first day and just explored the village.
I was able to pick up 3 masks (some bomb one, fairy one and one that makes me march and the dog in town to visit me), I also learned that some things will be done over and over again (getting the title deed from the first deku) don't know how fun that will be.

What I thought made the game difficult was it just expected you to know so many things. This is one of the few games that I think having a guide makes it more fun.

Nah it's all laid out there for you. Especially if you played OoT or any other zelda game. For the most part, it's full of quirky characters and annoying fetch quests to get masks. There was one seriously dumb part at the end of the game that involved the goron mask. That was difficult. LOL.

-I’m playing the GC version. The higher res and the better control stick are nice, but the game often slows down when there’s too much action going on. Also crashed once, fortunately I hadn’t done anything in that day yet.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2495/3918661451_a6732d3dec.jpg
I always play as ‘Link’! (Although sometimes as my real name.)
-Great introduction. Loved how Skull Kid hid the ocarina behind his back. Ninty has humor. The nightmare is nice as well. The text is sometimes a bit fast though.
-The stupid dog attacked me! Is this how they welcome their hero? Guess I’ll have to get back at them by entering their houses and breaking their pots.
-Does anyone else think it’s cheap that Nintendo reused so many models and animations of OoT?
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2471/3919446546_da67c8f675.jpg
Nice flashback of Zelda. I guess OoT has a special place is many gamers hearts.
-End of the first ground hog day. Hah @ Link waving goodbye to the nightmarish deku scrub.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3440/3918661503_fe579987ce.jpg
I love using the backflip to reach funny areas.
-Used the second ‘day’ for finding 4 pieces of heart. I just love exploring the lively world!
-Got to the forest temple, but a bit late in the days. Went back in time and spent a lot of time on the people in Clock Town. (Bah, somebody once told me that you get a piece of heart when you get the lottery right for all 3 days… :( I did it for 120 rupees?)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2540/3918661529_b4c7a52377.jpg
I only now realized this is a toilet.
-The stupid poisonous water made me drown twice! I’ll hate it if those count as game-overs.
-My body smells like monkey. Thanks! :D
-I remind the Deku butler of his son… So his son died and I got his body (like with the other 2 transforming masks)?
-So as you’ve noticed: 1 temple down. I just wish I had Epona back…
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2630/3919446614_4e9284b945.jpg
I think a score of 60+ is possible, but sometimes I just mess it up. (2 tries)
Great game, much better than I remembered.

I think the dungeons are longer to count for a shorter game. I wouldn't know, I've never gotten past Snowhead Temple (which I'm currently at!)

I didn't think the first dungeon was that long... It was big because of some huge rooms, which also took more time. But as for content, I'd say it was pretty average. Short maybe.
The boss was nice because he was different. Not just 1 strategy, but hack & slash also worked.
I love the mystery of Kafei. Can't wait to find out again how that will work out.

:baby:
The only part I could never solve.
I scored a perfect on the forest archery gallery. The one that you could call an open sided shop.
Done everything else.
I love this game, my favourite Zelda ;)
EDIT: Ok I started playing but I could not get past this bit :baby:
If only you could get back here with the song of healing. (Or with the Keaton mask for the dancing bushes before this bit for that matter)

I finished Snowhead the other day with no problems, but I didn't do the whole business with the Medigoron and the Goron races because I forgot about that cave he was in. So I went to check the ranch to get into Termina Bay with the horse but the stupid thing was blocked with that boulder and bombs weren't working!
I went exploring in the town to see what I could find there regarding this boulder but I didn't get anything other than the Bremen and Kafei mask. Also noted that the old lady had gotten her bag stolen at the North Gate which should hook me up with the big bomb bag. Noted for later. (Thank you Bombers Notebook!)
I waited and waited for that guy to get the boulder out of the way, and once I got in Romani wasn't talking to me, and neither was her sister. Something was wrong.
Went back to Snowhead, cleared up the snow by defeating Goht again, visited the Medigoron and opened the races. Completed the races and got the gold dust, but I had wasted so much time waiting for that boulder to get cleared that they couldn't finish my sword. So I saved and went back only to find MY GOLD DUST WAS GONE.
Cue anger.
Went back to Medigoron to get powder keg, and it was gonna cost me 100 freakin' Rupees for one of these stupid things. Didn't have any money since I came from a fresh save, so I had to fly back to Clock Town to get money to then get a Powder Keg to take it and open up the ranch. Learned Epona's Song which is kinda redundant because he started the game with the horse so he should have known it already? Saved the cows and got my next bottle with milk in it! I also visited the small ranch and won the race to get a mysterious mask dealing with something called the Ikana? Weird thing. I was going to try and get the gold dust again but by the time I had defeated Goht (AGAIN) I wasn't going to be able to run back and get ANOTHER hundred Rupees to get a powder keg and do the Goron Races again.
Clearly one of my more frustrating sessions since a lot of trial and error, this being the farthest I've ever gone into the game.
So for next time:
Gold dust for sword
Entering Termina Bay
(possibly?) Big Bomb Bag
Not related to this fully but thought you might get a kick out of it.

Game crashed again! This time when I was getting the Zora mask (spoiler!!!!). Fortunately I hadn't done too much those days.
Now I should enter the water temple, but I don't want to. The dungeons are the most boring aspect of this game imo. I just want to run around solving stuff and helping people. But before I can do some of that, I need to finish the dungeons.
Also, I hated the snow temple. So boring.

Defeated Goht again, but forgot that I didn't have any Rupees so I went back to Clock Town. Got some Rupees and headed out to get a Powder Keg. Opened up the Goron Races and went for the gold! Literally! Got the Razor Sword after skipping a day, and then waited another day to get the Gilded Sword. Looks pretty cool. Saved and went back to the beginning to help the old woman with the bomb bag. Got a blast mask and a new bomb bag as well.
Go me!
All this sidequest stuff is cleaning out my wallet. I then went off to the scrub who will give me an even bigger bomb bag. Made my way into Great Bay for the first time and met someone who would give me a seahorse? And a guitarish for the Zora Band who was *ahem* kind enough to give me a mask! But sadly I had to go pick up my car so that's were I end today!

Well after some searching aimlessly I found the Gerudo Fortress and I made my way in only to realize that I had taken too long to get to where I needed to be. So sadly I had to save BUT I did get the hookshot. So that'll speed things up a bit won't it!

So... had to stop playing this on an emulator because the button config was too convoluted using the ps2 pad and stuff.
So I borrowed my friend's 64 and started over. No more screens from me, but still good fun.
I've completed the first 3 temples. I've forgotten how actually short the game was.
Now moving onto temple number 4, and I have decided to beat the game this time without the last mask.
Also Zora mask is baller. I forgot how awesomely cool it was.

Project 64 on your pc and a 360 controller ;) Works perfectly for N64 games. I would be playing more myself but I left my 360 Controller back home before I came to London. I'll try and play more and get some good screens either way.
And for the record I own 2 actual real copies of this game so I am allowed a rom ;) And yes, when I eventually get my own Wii to play my Wii games on I will inevitably download MM off the Virtual Console.

I don't have a wired 360 controller, but I still don't see how it solves the problems? There just aren't enough buttons on the PS2 pad or the 360 pad. 4 c buttons really mess with things. There are 10 buttons on the n64 controller and they're all placed in convenient locales where as ps2 or 360 pad only has 8 buttons, and trying to place certain buttons in certain places just gets weird.

- I got a great shot of a Gerudo warrior. Just her face and a huge sword, coming to attack me. I bet the fisher man liked that. :D

- Such an annoying boss!!! I died twice! I hate it when he chews on you and you can't do a thing.
- The Stray Fairies were easier than expected. :)
- Blech, 3rd temple made me Zelda-sick. Maybe it's the bad framerate on the GC, maybe it's the boring temples... I took a 2 or 3 days break from MM.

Good game, but not as good as Ocarina of Time. I realize that now (my brother always said MM is better, after years I was beginning to think he might be right).
The second time I beat it, I solved the Kafei mystery. Now I just miss 2 masks (3 if you count Oni Link). I can't remember where I get a bigger purse... I'm still walking around with 200 rupees max. :(
