View Full Version : 360 or PS3
So.... this questions has been around for a while, and here's my take on it I guess.
Now, I obviously already own a 360 and I am happy with it, however I am in constant fear of the thing dying on me any moment now just cus it might feel like it. Ive been thinking of switching to PS3 land mainly due to this and the free online.
I know that XBL is ages ahead of PSN, I only use XBL for multiplayer gaming really, nothing else at all. When it comes to the multiplayer aspect, is PSN really so bad compared to XBL? Even considering that it's free? Its not like Im getting rid of the xbox (maybe) but it would mean bye bye live and no more xbox games unless its exclusive.

Well, from my experience PSN isn't as bad as Xbox just a few things off the top of my head.
-Since it doesn't come with the console, a lot of people tend not to have mics, which may or may not be a bad thing.
-You can't have a party/chat thing while in a game... you can't even access the XMB while in a party chat.
-The invite system is a bit longer if I remember correctly, and not a simple button press like on the 360.
-Some of the games seem to run slower since everyone is on wireless for the most part.
I don't play online often, but some of the stuff noticed in Uncharted beta and the likes.

I have a PS3, and I've never once been upset with my purchase.
The PS3 is a very nice system, and the new price point is quite good as well. The differentiator between the 360 and the PS3 is whether or not you already have an installed online community on the 360. If you do, moving to the PS3 will be difficult as far as online play goes, because the 360 does offer a superior experience. But I think both consoles have come a long way since their inception.
Both are much better alternatives to the Wii, in my view.

How did the Wii come into this equation?
But alas I agree, unless you really really love laggy Smash Bros, Wii online is way too troublesome most of the time. :(
And Typhoid, I don't think he was talking about having trouble with the purchase, but more like is it worth it to trade over his 360 for a PS3.
And their libraries are so similar at this point, it comes down to a handful of games, how you really feel about online and the controller.
Like I know Zen enjoys fighting games, and most people I speak with prefer the PS3 controller for that.

If you really love fighting games you'll get an arcade stick and ignore any controller.
I would say Xbox 360. The PS3 has been and still is over priced in my opinion, and the 360 has a superior game library, and if you have netflix you can stream straight to your TV via the 360.

As I discovered on my trip to Canadia, Netflix is an American thing, apparently the rest of the world isn't in on one of the Xbox's best kept features.

I don't have a PS3, but I imagine it's a hell of a system even though I have heard it has some shortcomings when it comes to having a breadth of quality titles.
All I can say is that I have actively gamed since about 1983 and I have never played one system more than my Xbox 360. Honestly, it's not even close. It's my favorite system of all time.
Plus, if you get a 360 you can join us for our semi-regular TF2 nights!
Yes, Netflix is a US only thing so that's no good for me.
Regarding the controller, i have no real issues with the 360 controller however I am indeed getting an arcade stick, havent bought it yet only cus i might be switching to PS3.
I just fear the day where i get RRoD on me and my game collection becomes useless, which is why I will only keep the xbox for exclusives.
So it pretty much comes down to if you can still have an enjoyable experience on PS3 online.
EDIT: I do have a 360, just no TF2 yet :P

Regarding the RRoD, I'm pretty sure it's a non-issue with newer 360's. For the record, I've had mine for a few years and have clocked some serious hours and have never had a problem (knock on wood).

Yeah, I don't think RRoD is an issue on newer models.
And I have to reiterate what Prof S said...other than maybe the N64, this is my favorite gaming system ever, and the only reason N64 trumps it is because of nostalgia and all the fun I had as a kid (and OoT).
There are just so many great games available for it (not true for PS3), the online features are perfect, achievements are a requirement for every game (also not true for PS3 last I heard), and the arcade has some really great downloads.

For the most part, online games for the PS3 is more of a "random" matchup system opposed to people on your list. It's less of a play-with-your-friends thing, and more of a play-online thing.
There are some fun online games for PS3, but if you compare the experience directly to the 360 for online, it won't add up, mainly because of voice chat.
Other than that, it's not too different.
For me it's all about the games. What the console does comes second.
I bought an N64 because of Goldeneye, A Gamecube For Metroid, Zelda and several others. A Wii because by now I knew Nintendo would not let me down. Oh and how can I forget the Mario Kart's. No I dont need to know anything about Nintendo anymore, all I have to be told is New Nintendo console and I will buy one, lol.
I bought an x-box because of Morrowind.
I got a Playstation 2 because of Grand Theft Auto and Tenchu.
I bought a 360 because of Oblivion. (And Rareware of course)
But to date I have not seen one single game on PS3 that says to me 'That's worth buying a PS3 for' + I think it looks like some 80's reject piece of shit, lol. Remember the jokes about getting crushed to death by an x-box? The PS3 will squash you flatter lol.
And that controller, damn I hate the playstation controllers, I have never been able to get on with them, they always cause me excrutiating cramp in my hands and I have to stop playing.
(Wait's for flaming)
The N64 is my favourite and most played console of all time. The controler has never been surpassed in my opinion. It's just a shame the analog sticks would wear out. It also supports about 85% of my all time favourite games.
So anyway, on this one I am gonna say 360.
