I have got to be getting this game even if it is just to look at!

uh...I think it looks worse in those screens than in earlier screens I've seen...

It still looks very nice, however...

I agree with Stu.

And what's this theme? A horror RPG??

I dunno about the last screen and the grass... but those big enterances look pointlessly amazing.

Stu, check out the third pic. Look at the draw distance, foreshadowing, the coloration of the wildflowers in the background...

The beauty is in the detail and subtlety.

Well, the game's graphics can't be getting worse throughout development, unless the company making the game are complete idiots, which Big Blue Box is not.

The screen shots do look rather odd though, not reflecting much of the earlier screen shots. Hopefully some more information will be released soon.

Well, remember Mario Sunshine? That game looked really good at Spaceworld and then more recent pics looked awful. And now that E3 has rolled around, it looks really good again. I don't know what happened. Maybe in the normal course of a development cycle, things look temporarily worse in order to add some kind of feature or something.

Stu, I didn't mean to say that you didn't like the pics, its just that the third picture is actually one of my favorites. The coloration of the background and the draw distance is amazing. It almost looks like an oil painting...

When last we left Peter Molyneux's Project Ego, the game was enduring a phase of over six months of gameplay testing. From what we understood, the game's animations were being refined, but the bulk of the engineering and design were done. As a massive open-ended world with a deep storyline and an almost unlimited variation in character progression, testing for PE would have to be far more extensive than in most any other console game. It's been a few months since the last progress report at the Game Developers Conference and with E3 comes new details on Molyneux's RPG masterpiece.

The first thing to note is that Project Ego may not be called Project Ego anymore. Though the final name has not been announced, it's rumored to be Fable. Whatever the name, the story remains the same. As a young lad of only 15, you return home from an errand to find your parents kidnapped and your dog nailed to the front door. Ouch. The rest of the story involves your lifelong quest for revenge, ending with you becoming the greatest hero the world has ever known. How you get to that point is what makes Ego one of the most ambitious RPGs to ever hit the console world.

New on display was Ego's combat system. The game is a long ways off from being finished, as professed by creator Peter Molyneux, still the combat system seemed complete enough to evaluate. Combat in Ego varies based on the weapon you choose to wield. In the demo, the character was a master with a frying pan. Combat's in real time with actions and combos similar to what you'd find in an adventure game.

Enemy AI is very high. Bad guys hide in wheat fields, surround our hero for better attacks, and learns from the players actions. The world of Ego is massive, and it's rare for an RPG to have such a smooth combat system. Ego's a deep story with near limitless possibilities and a beautiful design. Tag on a quick, easy, combo-oriented combat system and you have a game that could be one of the best ever. But don't expect Ego anytime soon. The game won't be released until at least 2003.

Big Blue Box never really did set a suspected release date, but a lot of people thought it would come out at the end of this year. 2003 isn't so bad though for the 'best RPG ever.'

The new name might be "Fable" ?? I like Project Ego better for some reason.

I really want to play this game it sounds interesting, so by next year I should have enough money to get an Xbox...and guess which game I'll be getting. ;)

Like everyone said Ico was the greatest game you never played...I don't know about that, but some people that I know disagree.

Bond quoted that phrase because it is a paraphrase of a comment by Peter Molyneux that Project Ego would be the greatest RPG ever made, or at least that is their goal and why he is putting so much personal time into it.

As for the name, I would call it Ego because that way they would keep all the name recognition they have gained do far with all the buzz going on about this game and the name would make more sense considering the game's context ("Project" doesn't really fit in with the whole sword and sorcery concept)

Whoa whoa whoa. Back the truck up. Bad comparison. ICO is something I have played and experienced, and it could quite possibly be the 'best game you've never played'...in my opinion. But Project Ego is a ways off, and no one's played it yet (in the public).

Does it look great? Oh hell yes.
Does it sounds great? *nods*
Will it be great? 99% chance that it will...but nobody really knows for certain.

Then again, the person who did say it will be the greatest RPG ever has played it quite a bit, I assume. But we all know people have a ton of bias for their own damn games.

So, in essence, and when I put my mind to it, what I'm trying to say is that I don't really have a point. And I'm just typing because I have nothing better to do. Sad? Yes. Filled the empty space that is known as boredom? Hard to say.

:sneaky:

Okay, okay...before you throw tomatoes at me, I'll leave...

ico is just okay, its not close to being the best game though. There are several games that are far better than it. It was fun to play, but that's about it.
