I saw this during the previews before Transformers. Looks interesting. I was pretty skeptical when I first heard about M. Night Shyamalan making the film, but I have to admit that the trailer looks kinda cool. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Well the cartoon was boss, here's hoping for a good adaptation. M. Night is a pretty awesome director actually, not so much a good writer/storyteller, at least not after his first two films. Artistically though, this guy knows his shit, and since the story's already written, we don't have to worry about some bullcrap twist that he's become notorious for.

Just finished watching the series. Such a brilliant show. Curious to see how it'll be handled in live action film form. So far the actors don't resemble the characters...aside from Aang in the trailer, but we shall see.

I'm a little shocked how it looks but I'm still not convinced. Everything Night touches turns to trash nowadays. I certainly hope they only do one season per movie.

Oh... and I hope they don't Dragonball Z it up and make everyone white.

You should check out the IMDb board for this movie. Outrage over the casting. A lot of white folk (the three main kids, though Aang at least still looks like he did in the toon) and the fire nation is Indian.

There's even this site http://www.racebending.com/v3/ getting folks to boycott the movie.

If there is one thing the internet has shown me in the past year is they can't boycott crap.

They boycotted MW 2 and it is the biggest launching game in history.
They boycotted L4D 2 and it is doing much better than the original.

They are boycotting Jay Leno and believe his ratings are staying constant, etc.

Earth - China
Water - Innuit

But I guess that was too hard to cast...

I definitely see all that except the the wind. I always thought the Airbenders reminded me of my roommate. He was Thai. ESPECIALLY with the heavy Buddhist garb and influence.

Yup. Those two bother me the most. The guy playing Sokka was in the Twilight movies so you know he's there to cater to the tween girls. I don't get the actress playing Katara. She hasn't been in much and is as whitebread as someone can look. It's almost like the person in charge of casting was looking at the actual voice actors rather than the cartoon for reference.

Interesting. I feel like I'm going to trust the more positive viewpoint. It seemed a little more like the guy was walking away with a little more solid footing but the other guy sounded like a typical internet ranter.

But I definitely think that Sokka is gonna suck. Maybe they can get the animated guy do the voice over. It took quite a talent to make some of those jokes work...

Here's what I don't get. If they were going to go with actors that didn't look like the characters why not just use the original voice actors? They'd at least act and sound exactly the same. Though I do like Noah Ringer for Aaang, and that particular character needs to know how to fight. And Dante Basco (Zuko) is a bit too old...though he does look young for 34.

Voice acting and screen acting are very different. What may work vocally over cartoon may, and probably doesn't, work alongside the real actors. Not to mention, you have an opportunity to but faces that people recognize in the parts.

I think they are worried that if they start putting a lot of comedy in, then people will bill it as a comedy instead of a fantasy epic.

However, we also know how funny M. Night's movies have been.

I can understand that there wouldn't be comedy in the trailers, wouldn't make sense to market it like that. I definitely do not like the look of Katara from that trailer, but yeah we'll see.

Have we seen Iroh yet? I have a feeling he's gonna be all wise and serious like Master Roshi was in that awful Dragon Ball movie, instead of wise and hilariously awesome like he should be.

Iroh was next to Zuko telling him that his destiny is tied with Aang's. He's also the one shooting a lot of fire from both hands.

I was talking to my friend about this trailer. She was the one that got me into it. While we both agreed that the trailers are OBVIOUSLY going to veer towards the epic then the funny, she read in an interview that M. Night said that he wanted to make the movie more serious then the cartoon series. Also, according to her, when she found out about it, on the IMDB page, it had M. Night's name along with some writers from the cartoon as the writers, but then after M. Night gave that interview, the other writer's names MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED!! Ooooooo!

Be prepared for something more on the side of Narnia then Lord of the Rings.
