As I said in the other thread and mentioned to KG, Nintendo treats their Zeldas like a very special event and I don't see them throwing out another one just because the fans need it.
I assume they have gone through several concepts and just haven't finalized one yet. I also assume, they are finally gonna do away with the OoT template which has been driving the series for about a decade.

Not only that, but like we already pointed out, with a new Super Mario Bros. game coming out and a sequel to Mario Galaxy, Nintendo is going to be pulling in crazy money. Add in a Zelda on the DS and I guarantee you they will be making a large profit.
Releasing a Zelda on the Wii means that it will lessen the impact of the two Mario titles and definitely diminish Zelda sales on the DS. Some desperate Zelda fans might actually buy a DS for this new Zelda title. It wouldn't surprise me if DS sales saw an increase around the launch of Spirit Tracks.
Right now Nintendo is probably on cruise control, because the sequel to Galaxy looks like it uses the exact same engine as the original. I doubt development was too hard for that game.
Nintendo has cleaned the sales floor this generation, I see no reason why they would change their strategy. I bet if we see Wii Zelda it will be right at the end of the console's life so Nintendo can try to squeeze out a few final Wii sales before unveiling a new console.
Also, Twilight Princess wasn't exclusive so it was a Cube/Wii title. That meant no real pressure integrating Wii controls. I'm sure Nintendo feels some pressure to make a kick ass Zelda game that successfully and innovatively implements Wii motion control. If the game falls short in that area Nintendo will be crucified.

Hm I guess you're right. Within 1.5 years we'll get 2 Mario platformers and 1 Metroid game. That's pretty big, we don't 'need' Zelda to keep us busy.
But then again, look at the time between Zeldas:
LoZ: 1986
AoL: 1987
LttP: 1991
LA: 1993
OoT: 1998
MM: 2000
TWW: 2002
TP: 2006
2009/2010 would be a great timing for a next main Zelda. Especially when you consider TP was probably held back for the Wii.
I think it takes longer because they're not too sure what direction to go with it. Holding it back artificially, just not to have too many games in a short time? Madness.

I don't think its about having Mario and Zelda in their place, they released Wind Waker/Sunshine/Prime all within like 8 months of each other.
And TP/Prime 3/Galaxy were all released within a year of each other.
IGN: At your developer roundtable this week, you showed off a single piece of artwork from the next Wii Zelda game. This piece of art has not yet been released publicly, but we noticed that Link appears to have grown to full adulthood. He looks older than he did in Twilight Princess. Is that a correct assumption?
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, the story setting for this Zelda is, of course, in a completely different era and Link is older than he was previously. More approaching adulthood. There is one hint. Maybe from the art work you can see that he's not holding a sword.
IGN: Has he lost his Master Sword?
Shigeru Miyamoto: [Laughing] I just wanted to make sure that you understand we are making it. That's all I'm going to say on that subject.
IGN: Does the game follow the story progression of Twilight Princess or is it something completely different?
Shigeru Miyamoto: I can't go into details except to say that it's something completely different.

Ah, interesting! But they got it mixed up.
Look at that art and imagine if Link had the sword stored on his back, with the point of the sword pointing down to the ground. It looks like to me the shape of the girl matches that perfectly. The hilt and handle match her head and neck, the protective V of the hilt matches her cloak (which also puts the diamond in the exact same spot), and her long legs match the length of the sword.
Then again, I see how the textures map up on their matchup. Perhaps she is not meant to be a literal one-for-one representation of the sword like I'm thinking.

Very interesting. So this time the 'helper' (like Navi, Midna, etc.) is a living sword?
Can she also transform in other weapons? A whip (like in Spirit Tracks), a morningstar, a magic wand??
Also, some people have suggested that Link is standing in front of a portal. Maybe a portal to the fairy world. Perhaps he's lost the Master Sword? Maybe the Master Sword will be made in this game??

Yeah gotta agree with Mana here. If that chick is the sword her legs are the blade and her head is the handle.

Link has no sword in that pic. maybe he'll be using a spirit (or maybe multiple spirits? ) as weapons?
Angrist

So here's some cool stuff they could do:
- Flashbacks whenever you get a new weapon. Let's say you find the hookshot. This might be a new Link, so it's the first time he sees the weapon. But as soon as he touches the hookshot, you get to see flashes of Link to the Past, OoT, MM, TP. Link slowly realizes he has some connection with the previous heroes of time.
- A dungeon in the sky, but this time done right. You know that fairy tale about a bean that grows into a sky, where a giant lives? Make a dungeon of that. Link plants a bean in the beginning of the game, which slowly grows over time. In the end it's big enough to get to the dungeon.
Twist: the giant is a regular man who dreams the whole dungeon. The more you defeat him, the more he and his house shrink. When you're done with him, he's just a regular villager and the whole dungeon is gone.
- Animal transformations which are learned from those animals. Would be cool if Link could transform into a wolf, a seal, an eagle, maybe a goat and definately a big heavy triceratops-like animal. In the dungeon described above there is an eagle on the roof who teaches him the eagle form, which is needed to progress in the dungeon.
Edit: Maybe I should just turn it into my own fanfic.

Well not much, most of it doesn't even make sense, but from Mr. Miyamoto.
And the new Zelda for Wii is beyond that. On developing the recent Zelda for DS, I found out that one of Zelda's core appeals is its uniqueness. Of course we are preparing gorgeous graphics for the sake of users' anticipation for a grand role-playing adventure. But what I believe is very important is the realistic, actual feeling players have experienced themselves; the feeling to have really been on an adventure, to have explored the unknown terrains, to have solved the puzzle through trial and errors, to have themselves grown through various experiences! In that sense, a personal sense of creativity is becoming important among us. We have assembled one of the most creative team for the recent Zelda for DS, and we want to be as creative as possible for upcoming Wii Zelda.
And on a more tangible note, we are utilizing Wii MotionPlus. What has been disclosed so far is that we are finding the most efficient way to utilize Wii MotionPlus to realize the realistic and actual feeling of fighting with the sword. As for targeting, we are utilizing the pointing system of Wii Remote on the previous title. This time we are planning a more convenient and comfortable pointing system.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has told ONM to expect surprises at next year's E3 as Nintendo prepares to reveal an overhaul of the critically-acclaimed series.
When asked how different the new Zelda title will be when it arrives on Wii next year, Aonuma replied: "It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise."
"So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."
Aonuma also confirmed that alongside full MotionPlus support, we'll be able to see more of what his team have been working on at next year's E3. "I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising," he added.

He sure is talking more and more,
The Difference between the two platforms (Wii and DS) is big. The experience with Spirit Tracks, trying to enhance an already 'near-perfect control,' is what pushed us on learning how to rack our brains. With Wii it is the same, we want to make the most of its controls. We want the player to control the game in the best possible way. On Wii, the camera is more realistic. Graphics are more realistic, too, and controls have to be, therefore, much more realistic.
Any present Zelda is technically superior. Everything goes faster, more fluid... but to best Ocarina of Time, a great change –comparable to what happened back then- must be introduced. And that'll be rather complicated.

But yeah I don't know why folks fear this becoming Zelda Sports or some wagglefest.
Nintendo has figured out the balance between waggle-fest and legit games, they have made 2 new Marios, Metroid, Smash Bros and Kart without really dumbing any of it down. This Zelda.. if started from when TP was released has been in the making for at least 3 years, 4 by the time it is released.

And the man continues to talk,
The Legend of Zelda: The Everlasting Discussion
That's why, in the case of the new Legend of Zelda on Wii, he's trying to take more direct hands-on and specifically at least once every month we are having a very intimate meeting where we confirm the status quo, we discuss what needs to be done and Mr Miyamoto gives instructions as to what we need to do.
And in such a situation, of course there are some heated arguments, because each of us has his own idea as to what a Zelda game should look like, should play like. As time passes and as we are growing in terms of number of people working for the same department, naturally Mr Miyamoto has to keep some distance away from any other producers and developers, but I think we always try to have as close communications as possible in one way or the other. That's how I think everyone including me has been communicating with Mr Miyamoto at Nintendo.
Talking first on Wii MotionPlus, I've been working on the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda simultaneously with working on Spirit Tracks and now we have already come to the stage that Link is wielding his sword just as you are shaking your Wii remote. It's so natural I sometimes have to wonder why it was not available in previous games.
I think it's going to be quite surprising, but it's so natural maybe not so surprising for new Zelda fans. But it must be quite a surprise for existing and long-term Zelda fans. Maybe they will say, 'why couldn't Nintendo apply the same system to Twilight Princess? You already had the Wii remote.' Among the fans I think it's going to be quite a big difference.
As to other elements of Wii MotionPlus, I'm afraid I have to refrain from talking anything probably until E3 next year. The only thing I may be able to confirm is, we are trying to change the structure, how the game proceeds, in terms of how you have been playing The Legend of Zelda franchise so far. That's a little thing I can say, but I hope people will be surprised by knowing what I mean right now.

I have an eight-year-old son and he started playing The Phantom Hourglass for Nintendo DS. When he started playing with the boat, I told him: In the next Zelda, you are going to be able to ride on the train. He answered: OK, Dad, first boat, and then train? Surely next time, Link is going to fly in the sky...
If many people make many speculations, some of them might be correct...

Hm... TWW had a quite different world structure. Other Zelda games use small, closed off land areas. If you could fly in those, you'd keep flying into invisible walls.
So they'd need to change the world structure. Like Blizzard is doing for the original World of Warcraft. I'd love that, but I wonder if they'll take that route. We'll probably end up with some very limited flight.

Let's not lump Majora's Mask into this shit-fest. No doubt OoT is the best of the OoT/WW/TP batch, but Majora's Mask is this weird bastard child Zelda title that is hugely original and timeless in its own way. A better comparison between OoT/MM would be looking at Zelda 1/Zelda 2 on the NES.
I actually wish Nintendo would try something like Majora's Mask again since it was by far the most original direction Zelda has moved since the transition from 2D to 3D.

Rumors surface!
The game is virtually finished, the team are putting together the final touches. There will be a playable demo at E3.
Time travel does happen, but this time through the use of a new blade.
Link’s hometown is said to be much larger than previous outings.
There will be Majora’s Mask styled sideques, with more character interaction than previous games.
The dungeon - field " dungeon method is said to be changed, with one portion seeing players go from one dungeon immediately to the next.
The girl in the image is known as Adelle.
Combat is fluent and innovative, "no previous Wii title can give you a good example of its unique style".
Relies heavily on sword combat over other items, there's said to be less items, but used more frequently. Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
Link will be taking to the skies with significant portions of flight.
Some of that stuff is pretty much confirmed in interviews (from dungeon to dungeon; flying...).
Other things just sound like wishes fans have had for a long time (less items but more use; time travel; MM-styled sidequests; fluent combat).
Thoughts??

HEY! LISTEN!
Oh god, Na'vi, you so crazy.
Making the sword talk isnt the craziest thing I've scene from this franchise. I wonder what the gimick for this one is going to be.
For reference
OoT - 3D
Majoras Mask - Groundhog Day
Wind Waker - Sailing
Twilight Princess - Shadow Worlds
With any luck this one will be all about the sword being able to walk/float around independently of Link, and give us a whole games worth of puzzles requiring two people (kinda like four swords, but on a platform people care about and not requiring extra players)

Hm I don't think the term 'gimmick' is appropriate here. I'd rather call them themes or concepts.
And the shadow world didn't play a big role in TP. It felt like they tried to include a poor version of the alternative worlds of ALttP and OoT.

I will never believe any Zelda title rumors. I don't think the title ever leaked.
Although I have to say this one sounds pretty Zelda-ish and cool.
I might be misremembering, but I do think Majora's Mask leaked fairly early.

Yeah that was the one game I wasn't sure about. But I think the rumor was "Mask of Majora." Pretty close I guess.
Also, is a 2 week's leak that interesting?

Thoughts??
This is all I really want out of a new Zelda game. Anything bringing it closer to MM will have me hyped to the moon

@Default: "Hyped to the moon", I see what you did there :P
I fucking loved Majora's Mask, kinda feels like it needed a second act after the final boss though :/

Just 3 days to go but we have ourselves another round of rumors.
Zelda Wii's official title is "The Legend of Zelda". There will be no subtitle.
The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time.It also answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.
The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game. Her Name is Zordiana.
The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. Now it is possible to swing with the Hookshot, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.
Sometimes you have to "draw" a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.
The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort, as the script shows.
There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through. Miyamoto didn't want to include it.The Normal-Mode for amateurs. The Hero-Mode has no "Super Guide" included and the enemies tougher.
The On-Stage Dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn't a Dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a Dungeon, you will not notice you are in one. It will be a smooth gradation. There will be Dungeons with no Bosses and Bosses with no Dungeon. The "Dungeon" you are able to play at E3 will be an Ice-Level. It will be the frist "Dungeon" in the Game.
Some of these sound better than others (bosses being out in the open, dungeons that aren't dungeons, using your sword for puzzles) but Nintendo isn't known for its many leaks.

I thought we liked the dungeons, arnt they the main reason why anyone plays a Zelda game? Meh, best of luck with the dungeons that are dungeons approach.
Also, why do we need something to explain where the Master Sword came from? I always kinda liked that there were only very very faint connections between each of the game :/

Looks like none of the rumors were true. :) The ones BaB posted were unreliable because of the Miyamoto/Aonuma argument.
