This was on Digg, but sad day for nostalgic PC gamers everywhere as Duke Nukem developer 3D Realms gets shut down. I'm not sure what they were expecting since I doubt they were netting any money, and they've had ages to turn out a Duke game...they probably could have got away with using the Doom 3 engine and making it a little more cheery and adding strippers and jet packs. Ahh well....

I could argue about how Duke Nukem 3D wasn't that great, but I'd be lying because I like nostalgia :(

Ah well, other sarcastic badasses have stepped in to making gaming more fun:

and some Sam quotes, "Double the gun, double the fun!"
"I eat resistance for breakfast!"

Seriously though, I hope 3D realms releases the source code to the community. I'd love to see a Duke game get released through STEAM or a multiplayer game get put through the works. Hell, even a recoding of Duke Nukem 3D in a new engine would be pretty sweet. Long live the Duke...

I suppose some other company could always buy the rights to the franchise/ownership of the game, character and copyright. That way we could still see the duke again.

One of my favourite duke quote's? Hmm...I am sure he once said ''Your ass, your face, what's the difference?''

I heard that there are still handheld versions coming... Not that I care one bit.

I think the sadder thing in this is that, Commander Keen is gone as well.. Not that there were going to be any more games, but it's sad to see them go.

Still, doesn't have the same impact as Interplay shutting down though. We could have had Fallout 3 from them..

I think this actually makes a Duke Nukem game more likely. I'm sure someone will buy it and finish it.

Oh man, you played Commander Keen? Sweeeet. I thought I was the only one.

I fired up my DOS emulator to play Commander Keen 4 a few months ago. Any dude with a pogo stick and ray gun is cool in my book.

I played some Commander Keen. I was a bit too young though, they were harder than Mario.

Haha, if I remember correctly, it was the first videogame I ever played :D Keen 4, I think it was, "Goodbye Galaxy, Secret of the Oracle". Had a level named Sand Diego, in a glass dome :)

The game was very very hard, and I managed to beat it about 10 years later. I also managed to get my hands on the other games as well..

Keen ruled :)
