GDC isn't a huge conference, and should by its own name focus more on the development side, that doesn't mean don't get news or any interesting trailers out of it.

The GameTrak Freedom

In addition to unveiling the Freedom's new design, PDP also further detailed the controller's advanced motion technology. Like other motion controller solutions, the Freedom uses a series of accelerometers to determine the pitch, roll, and yaw of the device in relation to in-game physics. What sets the Freedom apart from other motion controllers, however, is its use of ultrasonic 3D positioning. The Freedom system includes two sensor bars placed or mounted to the sides of a display, which communicate with an ultrasonic emitter built into the Freedom controller. The ultrasonic pulses emitted by the controller and identified by the sensors, along with the data fed by the accelerometers enable the system to calculate the distance, orientation, and speed of the device with extreme precision. Each Freedom remote (up to four can be used simultaneously on one system) emits three pulses to accurately triangulate distance, and a fourth pulse is emitted for accuracy.

And comes with its own game,

The Wii now has an update which allows you to store games from VC/WiiWare onto SD cards, and run them from there permitting you have enough free room on your console.

So I assume transfer everything over to the card, and you should be fine
-Ability to stream right off the card.
-Download games from the shop to the card.
-Supports up to 32 GB SD card.
-Arcade games now supported on VC.

All the game development students at my school are going because it's a big recruiter day. Reckon gekko might be there too.

Still no excuse for the SD card issue to take this long to get resolved. Rediculous really.

So Xbox has now officially a wand-like motion controller? That took a while. :)

I don't know if space was an issue, but in their defense (which I seem to be pretty good at), they did have a more steady stream than either PSN or XBLA. I mean XBLA has improved but for months it use to be one game a week, hopefully, I think it may still be close to that.

All the game development students at my school are going because it's a big recruiter day. Reckon gekko might be there too.

Didn't go this year (canceled reservations), wanted to save some money. It's a pretty big thing here, our spring break actually is scheduled around it, which sucked last year (Feb GDC). I'm only finishing my sophomore year, and not trying to intern this summer, so it's not too important to me. Glad I didn't go though, since I got homework in all but one class this week. Didn't want the break, just wanted sometime to re-work my graphics engine.

School wise, IGF is a pretty big thing for us. If anyone's keeping track, Tag just won, which has us winning the last 3 student showcase awards. Hopefully that will be me in a couple years.

Going to GDC for the career fair is nice, but I've heard mixed impressions about it's usefulness. Then again, it's the only one around for the industry. There's also a few gaming companies near me, so I have it much easier than others.

I'll likely go next year, really may depend on whether I have an internship or not. I'm crossing my fingers for Microsoft, and they're interviewing us in September, so I may know long before GDC if I'll be interning next summer.

Oh, and Call of Duty 4-2, 11/10/09. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Am I the only one who is beginning to think most all RPGs look same-ish?
