Gentlemen.

I figured if I'm gonna christen this forum then we might as well recommend good bands for each other. A few of my favorites, feel free to expand your horizons. And for the love of god, if you know any good metal bands I don't list, lemme know!

Norse/Goethenburg Melodic Death Metal:
Gardenian
Dark Tranquility
In Flames
Naglfar
Norther
Soilwork
Meshuggah
Dimmu Borgir
The Haunted
Wintersun
Children of Bodom
Amon Amarth

German/Death Metal:
Dark Age
Rammstein
Violent Work of Art
Samael
God Forbid
Death Angel

Amerikanisches Metall!:
Machine Head!!
DevilDriver
Chimaira
Five Finger Death Punch
Winds of Plague

To be honest, I really don't follow the American metal scene. The bands so far are 'slightly' off mainstream in that not every last soul has heard of them (I'm looking at you, Metallica.) But since some of you seem to be buffs I don't know how much you'll get from that.

Also, assorted other things that you should listen to before you die:
Muse - "Brit Pop"
Joe Satriani - Virtuoso
Bones Domingo - Experimental
Daniel Mansury - Electronic
Audioslave/Sound Garden - The two greatest bands ever conceived
Tool - Experimental metal?

You didn't mention Mastodon. Not sure if they fit into any of the categories you gave but they still rock ass.

And of course for anyone who likes good music, check out the John Butler Trio

Porcupine Tree
Blackfield
No-Man

Everything that has Steven Wilson in it, basically.

And Radiohead, Kings of Convenience, The Shins, Ratatat, God Is An Astronaut, Bon Iver and Anathema come highly recommended by me.

Turisas is pretty sweet.

Saw them a couple months when they came to town
