1. Reach level 10 with a sneak skill of 60 and get the Mr. Sandman perk.
2. Go to Andale (south central part of the map)
3. Wait until around 1am and go into the Smith house while they are sleeping.
4. Go upstairs into the kid's bedroom
5. Use sandman on him (crouch and select him and and use the first option)
6. Repeat step 5
7. Increase difficulty for more XP

When you get out go south/south west. You will encounter some raiders on an overpass. Take them out and you will get some pretty good weapons.
That is all!

Don't worry about the additional XP perks. You level good enough without it. Also, Bloody Mess is a nice perk on occasion, but over time you don't care about it. GM: I thought they fixed the exploits in the game.

Go west and find Jury Street Metro station then continue to go west until you see some train cars. Go over to them and you will find a teddy bear in a shopping cart. Its uhhh... a really valuable bear...
You might want to save when you get to the Metro Station as well. Just in case you cant handle the little teddy bear.

Make friends with the slavers and pull a huge profit selling worthless people.
Then buy miniguns, recruit Jericho, steal power armor, and rule the wastes.
Don't listen to combine, he is a dick

What happens with the teddybear? A glitch that crashes your game?

Let's just say... It belongs to somebody who doesn't appreciate it when you take it from them...

If you are interested in completing the main quest line -- focus on that to begin with.
I spent so much time at the beginning (35 hours?) wandering aimlessly around the wastes, that I've burnt out on the game and have no motivation to find dad.
Could just be me though.

Same thing happened to me, then I got back into it and started to do main story and now am in a point of burning out again

I wandered around for hours on end exploring everywhere. Then I accidently found my dad and went back on the main quest. :p

It's so interesting that either of you had that problem. Most of my friends around here had the issue of beating the game without realizing how close they were to the end.

I think that I would recommend being a heavy weight so that you can carry more big weapons and have more fun. I found myself wanting to do more damage than I was doing, even with 100 skill in small weapons.
Oh, and I would recommend not getting the Mysterious Stranger perk. He showed up for me like three times over the last half of the game. :(

Really?
I've had him show up so much.
Maybe because your had very low luck?

I aimlessly wandered around for the entire game, and then I suddenly came across my dad (without any previous hints) where I shouldn't have found him - so I accidentally skipped a giant portion of the game.

Sounds like a bug. His model shouldn't even spawn until you've triggered the prerequisite flags...

No, its not a bug, I did the same and all it does is skip part of the main story. If you wanted you could go straight there before you even go to Megaton.
