View Full Version : GOTY - top 10
Why haven't we done this yet? I always think this is a good way to show others what they missed during the year.
Let's put our top 10 games of the year. And number one can only be one choice. No dual-awards. Just pick one.
I'm currently procrastinating an essay so I can't do it right away, but my top three are certifiably:
1. Valkyria Chronicles by Sega (Overworks)
It's a love-letter to the Skies of Arcadia fans, as well as a complete redesign of the classic strategy/Final Fantasy Tactics system with strong hints of Fire Emblem.
2. Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots by Konami (Kojima Productions)
Holy crap epic.
3. Grand Theft Auto IV by Rockstar (Rockstar North)
Totally immersive. 4 hours will go by and you won't even notice. It even has Bas Rutten, that crazy Dutch bastard. Hahaha.

I dont even think I've played 10 games this year. I'll just say MGS4 deserves to be at the top. Fallout 3 and Fable 2 were also fun. Was Lost Odyssey 2008? I think it was, that one's worth a look as well.

Probably an odd choice, but being it was the game I played the most in 08 that came out in 08
1)Left 4 Dead
2)Super Smash Bros Brawl
3)
You know I bought a lot of games... probably played even less. Gonna need to think about it.

World of Goo I need not even mention any others because they dont even compare.
Got to go with Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Final Fantasy Tactics A2.
Probably others but those are ones I have had alot of fun with.
Though I did just get Tactics last week

Thats what she said
Are you far in it yet?
I'm only like...10 hours in.
I haven't done many of the main story quests, just doing a bunch of the side ones.
Having lots of fun with it.

I agree with you on that one. I watched my brother-in-law play it, and I tried it out a bit. It's really innovative.

4. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
5. Soul Calibur IV

Basically the only new games I played last year:
SSBB, World of Goo.
Oh and Crysis: Warhead, but that wasn't so great. I liked the demo of Left 4 Dead a lot too.

Castle Crashers. Only game I can remember playing this year.
Eep, I forgot about Devil May Cry 4. Now that's a sweet game. The pacing was excellent and there was enough difference between the two characters to keep it super interesting.
The graphics engine was amazing - I can't wait to see more of RE5.

L4D? Fable II?
Those were both originally on my list :lolz: ...
Left 4 Dead is great, don't get me wrong, it just hasn't clicked with me the way it has with everyone else.
I bought it at a point when I wasn't entirely sold on the idea, so to be fair, it's been an uphill battle.
Given a little more time, I can almost guarantee this will make it onto my list.
Fable 2 was a good experience and I'm glad I played it, but I am so done with Albion.
Having completed the relatively-short main quest as well as a few of the meatier side quests, I just don't want to spend anymore time there.
It doesn't have the legs that I thought it would, which is really disappointing to me.
I was relying on the release of Knothole Island to suck me back in... no dice.

4. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
5. Banjo: Nuts and Bolts
6. Soul Calibur IV
7. No More Heroes
8. Devil May Cry IV
9. Mario Kart Wii
10. LittleBigPlanet
This was a very weak year for the Wii, eep.
