View Full Version : After hearing this, I may never pay to see another Christian Bale movie again.

I hate actors that think they're better than ordinary people.
Even if Batman 3 is the greatest movie ever made, I am now seriously tempted to not pay to see it. And T4, that'll pirated too unless Bale apologizes.

I don't know if him going ape-shit would really stop me from watching his movies.
This just makes me think he's a douche.

Yeah, I heard this yesterday. I'm sure a lot of movie stars are pricks. It's really more of a story if a movie star is NOT a total jerk. That may be a stereotype, but I'll go with it. People are actually surprised that dudes like me in a somewhat successful rock band can be nice people.
Long story short, I'll still probably see the next Batman, though I don't necessarily have any loyalty to Bale as an actor. If he happens to be in a movie I want to see, so be it, if not I won't go out of my way to see because he is in it.

Like Germy said, I'm not an incredibly devote Bale fan, actually I can't think of one actor who I HAVE to watch. I'll still watch the next installation of Batman and whatever movies he makes in the future that are worth a trip to the cineplex.
But, I honestly can't tolerate hearing people behave like this. Bale, your are both a Giant Douche AND a Turd Sandwich. And my whole facebook network shall know!

Not to defend him too much but he is a serious method actor. I can see him getting angry if someone draws him out of character. I like Bale...in everything I've seen him in...except as Batman...and will continue to watch his movies...even Batman.

Think my favourite Bale film was Empire of the Sun. He was like 10
Not to be a super-fan, but I didn't find him too threatening in that audio. As he was saying, it wasn't the first time that the guy had fucked up. The article is claiming it to be one random outburst of violence. As well, he called him a nice guy. I think he was just making sure he wouldn't do it again. Not to mention, it was entirely one-sided. We couldn't hear what the other guy was saying.
And yeah, method acting would have a part. But I think it's more to do with his starvation for the role of John Connor. He's said in interviews that he is not a healthy-type of person, he's British through and through, and loves beer and fish and chips. I think I would be a little off-kilter too, if I could only eat apples and celery and smoke cigarettes from day to day in order to prepare for a role.
Also, it's hard to see how he thinks he's better than "ordinary people", because he's working with a Director of Photography whose job is to be an asshole about getting the perfect shot.
Not to mention, it's fucking McG working on this movie. The fucking Charlie's Angels guy. I can see how Bale is worried about the professionalism and quality of it. I would be truly concerned if he was not yelling.

As weird as it may seem, while I love him as Batman, I don't consider Bale a must see actor either. Don't get me wrong I like most of his movies, but I really don't have much hope for T4 as it was.
And word going around, this could be hearsay is that Warner released this clip in case he tried to quit the movie. :lolz:

I don't know, what he does is so much easier than stage acting. They stop, shoot it again. Problem fixed. Kind of seems like bullshit that it would be that hard to get back into character too. I mean, let's be honest, its a Terminator movie. His character is about as deep and complicated as the paint on my wall. No acting awards are going to come out of this.
It'd be like Shia LaBeouf cussing out someone on the crew for breaking his concentration during a scene from Transformers 2. Good, fun action flick. But its absolutely nothing more.
And for the ridiculous amount of money Bale is getting out of this, you'd think he could keep his temper in check.
He just comes off as an immature, unstable 'actor'. With a serious ego trip.

The director of photography didn't actually just walk onto set by accident. He started adjusting the lights during the middle of a take in an emotional scene.
This also happened the day he was accused of assaulting two of his family members.
Don't know if that changes anyones opinion or anything but I'm pretty sure he was yelling at the guy for being unprofessional.

This is coming from a person who obviously has no experience with acting or working with actors.
I've had to take university acting classes as part of learning to be a director and it's tough man. Let me tell you.
It's not as easy as flipping on a switch and then boom you're acting. You're trying to realistically portray a character in a certain scenario while in reality you're not really there and there's a shit load of crew doing stuff and lights all over the place.
It's hard to be in the moment and it's even harder when there's crazy shit breaking your concentration.
Also, just because it's a Terminator movie doesn't mean that he's not going to try his hardest to bring his character to life. That's why he gets paid as much as he does. If you went into a project with the mentality that "oh this is a Terminator movie and I won't get any Oscars so I don't have to try that hard" you would NEVER WORK AGAIN.

I wonder how T4 can be a good movie anyway. But we'll see.
It's been a while since the series has been on btw. I think they're starting again on February 13 or so.

Bale takes acting pretty seriously, as seen in The Machinist:
http://www.myfittribe.com/files/images/Christian%20Bale%20in%20The%20Machinist.jpg
Apparently he is taking his roll in the new Terminator movie pretty seriously too: before shooting he set up a meeting to talk with the director to talk about how to bring an emotional connection to the film.
That said he is still an actor. I don't think his job is demanding enough to warrant that type of yelling. Perhaps he should have turned that anger towards the paparazzi?
What made Bale's rant a dick move was that it went on for 5 minutes. It was clearly a projection of anger. Almost verbal abuse...I don't understand how people can get that angry. I've worked 2 large-scale office jobs, and no one likes the angry people.
I think it was unprofessional. I understnd the lighting guy made a jackass mistake. I understand that Bale takes acting seriously. But come on! Everyone makes mistakes.

Apparently it was a very emotional scene and that guy fucked up lots of times. I can understand the anger, but I guess he just couldn't turn it off.

I just think it's funny that being a method actor is somehow an excuse for being a complete asshole. I mean, I'm not going to boycott him simply because he's a douchebag. He's usually a decent actor, when he doesn't get totally wrapped up in doing the raspy Batman voice (if Batman's suit is so advanced why can't it be equipped with a voice modulator?).
I've done a fair bit of theater and method acting, which is still quite different from what he's doing on a professional level. But you don't go raving like that at somebody who makes a mistake, regardless of what it is or how often they've done it. Leave it up to the director, and be professional about it, regardless.

I just don't care. People don't need to be treated that way. If he was having a problem there were better ways to deal with it; regardless of if he'd already given a warning. All he had to say was 'I can't work like this when somebody keeps ******* with the lights. I'm done filming today until it gets sorted out.' But he went on an all out vicious attack directed specifically at the guy. I'm actually really surprised that so many people consider it excusable.
And yeah, it's obviously been sensationalized and the media will make a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be. But the audio speaks for itself, and taken out of context or not it is what it is. He had ever right to be upset, but he took it way too far.

I doubt Bale's attack would have been as vicious if it wasn't for the scene he was doing. Being a former actor in theater, I know very well how much of yourself you can put in a role, and how exhausting it can be. I'm not surprised at the reaction, and its also not something all that new to actors who are "method".
To me, if some assclown kept putzing around while I'm trying to call up some tortured part of my soul, I'd likely have castrated him with my bare hands.

The apology everyone has been waiting for. Seems sincere enough but he could also just be trying to save face.

I think the apology was legit....
he admitted that it was out of line, but he defended himself that he was really into the roll (which is believable since Bale is a serious actor).
The reality is, drawing out a good yelling into a 4-minute tantrum is crossing the threshold and Bale manned up to it.
