Ok, so i need a office suite for my Mac, and I was looking around and read up on Neo Office.

I dont want to pay anything. So should I even bother with Neo Office, or find a way to exploit the M$ suite?

If you're using this for school, I would just buy MS Office. You should be able to get it for a reasonable price with your student discount. At least that's what I did...

I honestly see no need for MS Office with Neo Office and Open Office both having complete compatibility with the docx file format. Unless you're doing a word processing class (which requires you to do something a certain way) there should be no reason you can't do what you need with a free office suite. Generally speaking, what you can do on one you can do on the other (at least in kind).

Most universities offer discounted office software, and Microsoft generally offers a discount to students with a .edu email address if you find you do really need their products.

I will say that although Neo Office is generally rated higher than Open Office, I've gotten sick of the lack of a proper in-app update solution. Having to continually go to their website to download the latest updates is not convenient. I've switched to Open Office and like the Mac port very much since the release of 3.0.

MS Office borders right around $100, and is worth every penny. Many people even prefer the Mac version to the Windows version, which isn't a big surprise since the Windows version gets done first, then the Mac team takes a year or so to improve it in any way they see fit.

I refuse to use OpenOffice. Use MS Office.

I have to back up MS Office. It's divine.

I rarely use office-esque products anymore. But I just downloaded the iWork '09 trial (which is fully functioning) and it seems perfect for the average user. The Pages program looks great.

And a series of numbers could make that trial more... permanent.
