View Full Version : Post your Cologne!
Seasons change, bank accounts fill, and I keep finding new ways to spend my money. :( As Typhoid knows, this season I'm completely crazy about good-quality colognes.
So what colognes do you guys have? List them, pictures, describe them, the whole shebang!
Arber (2002) - Body Shop
A nice cheap, woody, oriental smell I got from my girlfriend's mom for Christmas. I like it, but it's not an every day thing.
Black XS (2005) - Paco Rabanne
A brilliant, dark spicy smell with tons of strawberry and rose smell. Some people say it smells like a fruit salad on them, but my chemistry goes with Spicy and Rosy the most. And it's cheap too!
Brit for Men (2004) - Burberry
Incredibly addicting leathery James Bond-type smell that has addicting basenotes. Smells like britain!
Burberry London for Men (2006)- Burberry
Smells like London and Port Wine and leather and tobacco and cinnamon!
Cool Water (1988) - Davidoff
A ripoff of a much more expensive one by Creed, but I love it. My first "expensive" cologne. Smells like peppermint, not really like water, but definitely cool. I love the sandalwood at the bottom. Endorsed by Lost's Sawyer, Josh Holloway!
Dior Homme (2005) - Christian Dior
Oh god I loooooooooove this. Smells like Iris and leather at the top, but in the middle, smells like chocolate and caramel! The base even smells like vanilla.
Dior Homme Sport (2008) - Christian Dior
Namesake isn't really true, but you can totally mix these two. This one is completely Mandarin Orange on me. I love the hell out of it.
H2 (2005) - Hummer
Another cheapo from my grandma, but it holds up. Smells very oriental and nothing like a Hummer.
L'Homme (2006) - Yves Saint Laurent
This is the first expensive one that I bought. I like to think of it as the Ginger Ale of cologne - classy, but fun. Smells SO delicious. Whenever I smell it, I smell something new.
Pi Neo (2008) - Givenchy
Inspired by the Matrix, this is a woody/vanilla scent. Lasts incredibly well. Great for autumn days and being active/kayaking/walking. Just like all Givenchy, dead sexy.
Prada Amber pour Homme (2006) - Prada
I needed a 100% pure class smell, so I went with this. It smells like expensive Barbershop soap. It's amazing.
Sung Homme (1988) - Alfred Sung
This is the last addition to my collection. My uncle used to wear this ALL the time. It's an 80's cologne, and it tries to cram everything in. Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Musk, you name it. It's intense.

I love Polo Black, I think it smells like success on a man, like "oh! thats what he smells like!"
I use Davidoff's Cool Water-Game and Calvin Klein's One.
Game is great for fun, casual activities.
One is great for some more serious get-togethers.
I usually have trouble deciding which one I should wear though :) If I had a third one, I'd probably go crazy.

At the moment I'm only using some after-shave from time to time. AXE, but that might just be a Dutch brand. It's a bit too sweet for my (now grown-up) taste. 2 bottles: Voodoo and Phoenix.

Six years ago an aunt from the USA got me some monsters of Claiborne Curve For Men. It's pretty good stuff, kind of classy.

Oh, I also have Puma Flowing. A bit more sporty.

It reminds me that I need to wear it more often.

These are listed more or less in order of how often I use them. The first two are hands down my favorite and seem to work the best with my own body chemistry and the rest I'm impartial to, but smell nice nonetheless.

I've never bought any cologne for myself, but it seems to be like the favored product my Father seems to want to pass on. All my cologne bottles are at least 80% full still, and thats after a few years of use. Here are some that I borrow from time to time.

This is easily the most popular cologne amongst my friends; girls have literally told me that the scent immediately turns them on.

This ones a goody, very classy.
What distribution technique do you all use? I just spray once on both wrists and rub those suckers on the sides of my neck.
Acqua Di Gio is insanely popular, yeah. Hahaha. I've never tried Allure Homme, but I've heard good things. I did try Allure Homme Sport and I loved it! My dad owns that.
Distribution? I go craaaaaazy. Two sprays to the chest, one to the back of the neck for sillage, and one on each forearm. If I'm trying something out, I use the wrists. Otherwise, anything on the wrists rubs right off. :( I try to get the pulse points and the hair, though. Hair is like a trap for scent - it holds on and never lets go. And luckily for me, I'm a hairy mofo.
Also, you should never rub cologne. :) If you rub cologne anywhere on your skin, you rub your natural body oils into it which kills longevity exponentially. Whenever you apply you should pat it on! :)

*mind explodes*
I try to stick just 2-3 sprays simply because no matter how good something smells, I don't want to catch a whiff of it on someone from 5 feet away, and get hit by saturated nostrils once I go in for the hug (if facing) or the full nelson (if hitting it from the back).
But, truth be told, one of the main reasons I probably don't ever go through 1 bottle completely is because I just prefer using this beast by itself:

Seconded.
In fact, I didn't even realize that people outside of the hispanic greaser community even used cologne...

 Bruce Campbell, love that guy.
But Old Spice? Not for me. Can smell it from a mile away.
And cologne? Not for me. I could never bring myself to pay $50-$100 or more for a bottle of what amounts to fancy oil. If someone buys it for me, then I'd use it but only rarely.

I don't often wear cologne, but when I do, I wear 32 Degrees by Lili Bermuda. I bought it in Bermuda and it is a great cologne. Very light and fresh.
People still wear Old Spice? Don't you worry that you'll smell the same as everyone else?
I mean I wore Axe up until a few months ago but there's much better smells out there than what deodorant offers. Now I'm all about unscented deodorant and cologne.
Plus, why would you want to smell your scented armpits all day?

Well, when you put it that way...
No, I'm perfectly fine smelling like old spice and cigarettes.
And I definitely prefer that to smelling like a walking Macy's.
Besides, everyone who wears cologne looks and acts like an extremely conceited dandy who wishes to God that they could look and act like the guys in those ridiculous fragrance commercials.
And that's a fact.
I see a guy walking down the sidewalk towards me and a red light goes off in my head. "I'll bet that guy wears cologne"... And by the time he's within 20 feet of me, my suspicion is confirmed.
It's like spotting a vegan in reverse.

Add me to the High Endurance only camp. Every once in a great while I'll put on some Adidas cologne that I think I got about 6 or 7 years ago. It's not even half empty yet.
Go ahead and mock me if you must, but the girlfriend seems to like the way I smell so that's what's important in my book.

Yeah, D&G pour Homme is one of the highest-rated designer colognes. I haven't tried it, but I CAN tell you that D&G Light Blue and D&G "The One" are complete and utter crap that dissolve in 20 minutes.
Also, I've had a major shift in wardrobe. I returned Prada Amber and Givenchy Pi Neo. In their place, I have Guerlain Vetiver, which is AMAZING once you notice the cedar chest smell, and Chanel Antaeus, which is a honey and rose-type scent based in Beeswax. Both scents are brilliant. I also picked up Azzaro pH which is an 80's powerhouse in the truest sense of the word - Musk, Leather, and Ambergris (which is the shit that comes out of Sperm Whales, that environmentalists think is inhumane even though nobody cuts any whales open to get it.) I got Azzaro pH at Winners (or as Americans call it, TJ Max) for extremely cheap.
