A new DS model is rumored to be announced tomorrow. It's supposed to have:

- A built in camera
- A music player
- A more powerful wireless communication

Other sources also add the following rumors:

- larger screens
- to be released this year in Japan
- under 20000 yen
- new types of games by using the camera
- get/exchange data from Wii and SD card (SD card slot included?)

So what do you think? Nintendo really doesn't need it to keep selling the DS, but it is a nice exercise for the next generation.

I doubt it. The DS hasn't lost any steam in its sales.

Plus, it was a faulty report about the camera/music DS, and it looks like VGChartz made up the "increased wireless" claim.

The new DS is announced and it is nicknamed the DSi.. yeah think about that for a second.

The size of the unit has been reduced by 12% and 2.6 millimeters -- and the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot is gone

October 1, 2008 - Nintendo has just announced a new model of the Nintendo DS. Called the Nintendo DS-i, the unit is a smaller handheld that features larger screens, an SD card slot for digital downloads and MP3 playback, and a .3 megapixel camera (640x480 resolution). It is roughly 12% thinner than the current DS Lite model.

Using the touch screen, users will be able to adjust pitch and playback speed of MP3s as well as edit photos taken with the camera.

Smaller, built-in camera, and no GBA slot.

The Nintendo DS-i handheld will have browser software built-in and have access to a DSWare store where gamers can spend Nintendo Points on software. Nintendo will give gamers 1000 points for free if they visit the store by March 2010 -- games will feature four price structures: Free, 200 Points, 500 Points and Premium (800 Points).

The system will be released November 1st in Japan for 18,900 yen (approximately $180 US) in white and Matte black colors. As of right now, the system is a Japan exclusive.I'm not sure. I usually wait for television to tell me what to think about it.

0.3 megapixels?

No thanks.

.3 internal, 3 external.

That's more than iPhone. Nice!

However, the decreased battery life is a definite turnoff.

.3 internal, 3 external.What?
However, the decreased battery life is a definite turnoff. What?

What?
What?

The external camera is 3 frigging megapixels, while the internal one (the one pointing at you) is 0.3.

And yes, the battery life is less than the DS lite.

• Battery Life
Nintendo DSi: The lowest brightness (9-14 hrs), low brightness (8-12 hours), medium brightness (6-9 hours), high brightness (4-6 hours), highest brightness(3-4 hours)
Nintendo DS Lite: The lowest brightness (15-19 hrs), low brightness (10-15 hours), high brightness (7-11 hours), highest brightness(5-8 hours)

IMaster;239843']http://stuff.tv/News/Nintendo-DSi-gets-official-airing/10950/That's some terrible journalism. They've got most of the facts wrong.

Correction:
It doesn't have 2 touch screens.
It's not 2.6mm thin (!!!)
Nothing is known about an MP3-player. AAC, yes, MP3, who knows.
As far as I know there is no 3MP camera. All they've said is a 0.3MP camera.

What's up with the two-touch screen rumour? My boss thought it had that, too. It wouldn't even make sense.

What's up with the two-touch screen rumour? My boss thought it had that, too. It wouldn't even make sense.Heh, you were talking about a 3MP camera. Both cameras are 0.3MP. So yeah, what was up with that rumor?

Regardless of megapixels, I think two cameras on the DS is extremely stupid engineering.

My little cell phone has a camera that swivels on an axis, so I can turn it to face me, or I can turn it to face away from me.

I guess it was more hopeful than information on the part of many. If it really is two .3mp cameras, then this product is pretty much worthless.

gamespot is saying the outward facing camera is 3mp also.

hard to say really without nintendo outright listing what it is exactly. seems to be hard info to find.

Don't you think Nintendo would advertize the crap out of it if it were a 3mp camera? And Reggie said somewhere that it wasn't anything special, but that it would allow for new gameplay. Something like that.

3mp isnt anything special. so no i dont think they "advertise the crap out of it."
however i do think they'd be sure to mention and list it.

on the flip side, 1 or 2 mp cameras are in pretty much every cheap as hell cell phone these days. hell $10 toy cameras have more then .3 mp. dont you think nintendo could do a lot better then that. .3 doesnt make sense for both.

never said i believe it has it. just that another site is saying it does
