Here's what I have so far. I have about 6 pages to read through though

Batman: Arkham Asylum

1 Player Action Game, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC

Publisher: Eidos

Developer: Rocksteady Sudios

Release: 2009

- Clever choice of location moves the game away from an open world Spider-Man clone and more into the dark and gritty realm of The Chronicles of Riddick.

- Packed with Batman's most dangerous archenemies Arkham Asylum boasts a brand new story reminiscent of the depth and twists of Bioshock

- Story is written by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Detective Comics)

- Wildstorm is crafting the authentic yet distinct new look for all the key characters

- Gameplay places just as much focus on Batman's role as a detective as his combat prowess.

- Game isn't being rushed to tie in with any TV/Film marketing cycles.

- Game runs on Unreal Engine 3

- Most of the game is played through an over-the-shoulder perspective

- You're going to see and get to fight against all the big super villains. Seen so far. Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Zsasz, Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and others the magazine doesn't want to spoil.

- Allies revealed so far are Commissioner Gordon who plays a big role and Barbara Gordon (aka Oracle) who is your radio contact in the game.

- Game opens with the Joker surrendering himself and subsequently taking over Arkham because of some secret the facility holds

- Magazine teases that this game will be the ultimate Batman experience so the voice cast will reflect that (Think Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill).

- Arkham was chosen as a location because of its limitations including the fact that it's an island prison. It's a persistent location so you can visit any location at anytime including Batman's secret on site Bat Cave etc. Don't think that just because this is an island prison there will only be small hallways. The developers have taken into account all the construction/destruction of the facility over the years so locals will vary.

- Eidos' Batman license includes all 70 years of comic book fiction so they're pulling from all of that.

COMBAT

- Boss Battles won't necessarily be a series of straight pugilistic fights. Each enemy represents a different side of Batman and not all of them can match his wide skill set. Some battles are focused on combat others will focus on gadgets some are similar to giant Zelda style bosses.

- Combat description in the magazine talks about Batman perched on a high ledge in a wide open room as he watches some of the Joker's thugs rifle through drawers. Batman switches to investigation mode using a blue tinted visor that among other things lets Batman see his enemies through walls and identifies things like guns and knives. One thug is carrying a machine gun so Batman jumps of the ledge, spreads his cape and kicks him in the face. He then swipes his cape in a large arc to stun his other enemies and then goes to work on them with a stylish blend of punches, kicks, a knee to the face here a behind the back elbow there. Combat has a gymnastic flourish and is accomplished using only three buttons. Attack, Stun and Throw.

- Combat is only one element of the game so the developers didn't want a bunch of button combos that you'd forget because you'll be doing other things besides fighting.

- During battle a combo multiplier at the top of the screen will increase with every strike. Once the combo expires a colony of bats will swirl around Batman and then contribute to an experience bar on the left side of the screen. In an RPG like skill tree system players will be able to distribute points where they prefer. Think Combat moves, faster takedowns, or gadget upgrades like the ability to throw multiple batarangs at the same time.

- Gadgets are revealed by collecting items in secret rooms. You'll need gadgets to survive as there are very tough enemies in the game that you can't just go head to head with (Think Killer Croc, he's 10 feet tall in the game and super tough)

- There are sections that involve sneaking but the developers call them Predatory gameplay sections as stealth tends to imply weakness, they prefer to think of it as picking off the weak people or people you wouldn't last too long in direct fight with from strong positions. The example they give in the article is Batman creating distractions with bodies and victim's yells and then stalking the guards as they go to inspect.

DETECTIVE

- Developers have come up with a very "sexy" CSI style for forensic puzzles because Batman will always have the very latest gadgets.

- Investigative mode is the centerpiece in Batman's arsenal. The visor can highlight points of interest and much like the Metroid Prime games will scan items into your database.

- They also mention another forensic gadget, a fingerprint tracker that allow Batman to follow trails of fingerprints.

OTHER

- Magazine hints at the ability to play as the villains in the game. Not sure if this is inserted directly into the game or available as a second playthrough option.

- Magazine lists a few suggested reading items. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, Batman: The Last Arkham, and Arkham Asylum: Living Hell.

GRAPHICS

- Game is very gritty looking. The screens in the mag are all inside Arkham and show case a few hallways, The Riddler's cell, A sewer etc. Lots of great lighting going on.

- Character redesigns are pretty good for the most part. Joker looks like classic Joker only with Heath Ledger style make up (long drawn on red lipstick etc.) he still has a the bright purple suit and bright green hair. Definitely more sinister looking than say the TAS Joker. Killer Croc is huge and looks more like Jim Lee's Hush redesign as opposed to some of the more human renditions of him.

- Batman is in the Black and Grey costume. It looks more like armor however his gauntlets in particular look like the ones from TDK. Overall it looks very awesome.

- They show screens of fights and predator segments and all look very interesting and very Batman in scope. Lots of classic poses etc.

- You can control Batarangs from first person mode.

From the new Gameinformer.
He is the hero that we want in our games.
But will this be the game he deserves?

I do like Arkham. Living Hell is one of my favorite stories...although very little Batman in it. 2009 huh? Small chance I'll have a PC that can run this by then.

Dude... haven't you guys heard? Batman is horrible. Didn't you see The Dark Knight? Awful! No one would ever want to play a Batman game.

(i'm being sarcastic, it sounds like it could potentially be awesome.... unfortunately like all previous Batman games)

Main thing I am hoping is that the controls are nice and fluid.

If they are awkward even the slightest I will be completely taken out of the game

I haven't played a good Batman game in a hell of a long time.

I was so glad someone didn't decide to make a game for TDK like they did with Batman Begins.

The Joker looks...interesting. Reminds me a lot of Jack Nicholson's Joker.

Good news that Paul Dini is making the story.

I didn't actually mean to guess
It's the voice actors from TAS.
Kevin Conroy (The Batman, sorry Mr. Bale)
And yeah Mark Hamil sounding like a different Joker.

FRICK!

The game got delayed from June until... well the end of the summer which is oddly vague.

Hi everyone. There's been a lot of speculation about the Batman: Arkham Asylum release date. Eidos has just announced this statement (wanted you folk to get the official word first)....

"Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment can today confirm that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released at the end of summer 2009. This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylum is of the highest quality for gamers."

They had a PS3 kiosk set up at my local Best Buy with a demo of this game.

From what I can tell, in the demo you just fight progressive waves of tougher baddies.

But it was really fun - I'm probably going to pick this up. The combat felt so perfect. You could use triangle to counter, and the game gave you alerts on when a guy was about to hit you. So you could be punching the crap out of someone, then catch a guy's foot who is trying to kick you under your arm and them slam your elbow into him.

You can also utilize your cape to stun enemies, and if you run at someone and press triangle you could jump over them and hit them from behind.

Not to mention it looks awesome, and I think you may actually take damage to your suit as you fight. After this one brawl I had a tear across the chest of my bat suit.

The controls are so easy to learn, but feel rewarding to execute. Mark Hamil is awesome as usual.

Yeah those were plentiful, and coming from my schooling... not practical... its not a neutral image... and in an insane asylum.. yup

Anyhow, what takedowns have people done?

I finally got the takedown through the glass ceiling in the final room. Also a huge fan of the upside down one, always thought he dropped them but he actually hangs them by their feet.

Another thing I have to make a comment about is the voice work.

I have always said that Kevin Conroy is my Batman, and its nice to see him back in the role again.

Mark Hamill sounds a bit different as the Joker, but I guess this Joker is a tad darker than the previous one.

And of course, Harley Quinn's voice actress return.. though Harley... er developed in certain areas.

Okay finding new ways to freak people out is awesome.

I used the Inverted Takedown to tie one of the goons up.

His friend came over to check out what happened, and guessed called a 3rd one over.

The third one actually goes underneath the body so decided would cut the batrope, and the 1st body actually falls on top of him. Takes him out and freaks out his friend big time.

Rest assured, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Batman: Arkham Asylum is unquestionably the best licensed game I've ever played. At the end of the day, however, that's a fairly low hurdle to clear -- it better reflects the game's quality to say it's one of the best stealth-action games ever made, and easily the best video game 2009 has had to offer thus far.

There's actually a few different ones, and I believe you get one for every 5x on your multiplier for... 5x, 10x, 15x, etc etc

After playing the demo, this is a definite buy. I love the mix of hand-to-hand and stealth combat, both done quite brilliantly. It shows that you don't have to have an interminable list of buttons mashed to have strong combat, but instead some time sensitive and thoughtful reaction based gameplay to create a really entertaining and deep experience without the frustration of your avatar never doing what you really wanted it to do.

I don't wanna be in no stinky contest, but I'm 49% through the game.

Found 115 of the trophies/puzzles.
12 upgrades.

About 24 character bios.

I like how the Joker learns your secrets as the game goes on.

He gives the thugs collar so that even your stealth kills are noticed.
Then he has his goons put bombs on the gargoyles so you can't really use them and need to get creative.

i also figured out (and quite like) that most of the Riddler's puzzles actually refer to specific characters so I just started searching rooms for specific character traits... the Tea Set for Mad Hatter, the DA posters for Two-Face... etc

Does the percent completion include all the Riddler trophies? Because I've been collecting those as I seem them and it still says about 25% or so? I think I've gotten way far into the actual plot though.

So, it appears as though BaB is currently winning.

Could we get an update from Combine?

Just downloaded the Joker DLC.

And for the most part, it looks like the Batman Challenge mode with the Joker.
There are of course some differences.

-The Joker doesn't seem to possess a batclaw so that is out of combat.
-He doesn't have a batarang, but a single bullet gun. Which is an instant kill.
-He fights cops and Arkham guards which is cool. The first level, one of the people you fight is Gordon.
-He throws poison/laughing gas instead of the cape stun Batman does.
-He has trippy glasses.

Now to see if different in Predator mode since assume has no batgrapple either.

I didn't know you could hold RT/R2 when glide kicking to see what the guard sees. Gonna check that out.

Yeah, and you can move the camera when you're talking to people, a la MGS. so awesome. I get the feeling there's a lot of little things.

Wonder who mentioned that. :p
Yeah something found out in the demo, you can do it with other weapons as well, think you can follow the batarang to its target and what have you.

I got a perfect combo yesterday, Batman kicking ass at his finest! Anyone else get a perfect combo yet? (meaning a combo where you use strike, counter, stun, jump over an opponent to his backside, ground knockout, batarangs, grappling hook, throw, and takedown.)
