Am I the only one that kind of gets teary-eyed watching the massively-coordinated opening shit they have going on.

Awwwwwwwwwwesome. :baby: The glow-stick drumming was intense. I wonder what we'll have here in Vancouver when the time comes.

TV ruined the Olympics for me. But, that was 4 years ago before the advent of broadband connections, streaming video, and torrents. I remember when they would spend an hour talking about a track and field event, and then the event would last for 20 seconds. Good commercial revenue.

The thing is, there are TONS of really kick ass extreme sports at the Olympics...events that are interesting and demand incredible athletic ability. Those are the ones I'll be watching, online, of course.

I guess, I should say, TV ruined TV for me. Fuck TV.

The guy running on the walls for the length of the stadium in mid air was kinda cool.

Just watched the box performance. Holy shit. How did they coordinated that many people under boxes?

I like the winter olympics a lot more than the summer, but this should be interesting. Hopefully China doesn't do anything ridiculous.

It's China. They have their "ways". Like how they are able to get big military showings of people in pretty much perfect unison.

Wow, that was amazing.

China is the new America.

Except for you know, being communist, denying their people essential freedom's, and censoring everything. You can't even go to a website that mentions democracy.

The opening ceremony was incredible, though. Probably the best one ever.

You can't just call China a blanket communist state anymore... it's more complicated than that. The country now has certain zones of economic freedom: Beijing, Hong Kong, etc.

But yeah, long way to go on the political freedoms front.

Hmm, I missed the ceremonies but they sounded good. I just like watching badminton and fencing and all that kind of weird stuff you otherwise don't get to see. It's fun. I'm also looking forward to Phelps going for 8 golds, should be fun...

heh.
If I'm not interested in watching 6 or 7 months from now, I won't be interested it watching over the course of the next 3-4 or however many weeks.

Maybe the track stuff I'll watch if it's on.
But the only things I'll look out for are the basketball and football competitions.

I love the opening ceremony stuff, but I'm so scared for what they'll do when it's here.

It'll all be Indian dancing, Indian this, Indian that. That's fine and dandy, but there's a lot more to Vancouver than the fact natives used to live here. The logo for the Canucks is a Native-art styled Orca. When we had the Grizzlies, the edges of the jerseys were covered in Native art rabble.

I mean, I'm sure what they do in Vancouver will undoubtedly be cool, but I think it will be ultimately super tacky to everyone not in Vancouver.

You know what, I would love to see 500 people dressed as Quakers give 500 indians HBC blankets covered with diseases and have cool, perforated, red lighting go over the Indians and shit. :lolz:

Hahaha.
That would be pretty hilarious actually.
I just know it'll be bombarded with people dressed up as Ravens and Orcas running around a stage doing some fake pseudo-symbolic gesture of the meaning of life and how we all have a little Raven and Orca inside of us all.

PS. I am back.
PPS. I have nothing but free time.

The opening was the best of the olympics ever. Might have been even bether if Spielberg accepted to direct it, but I guess his reasons were right to refuse.
It set e new bar that now the next hosts will have to guide buy, and there is a problem. I don't know if they'll trow so much money and man power as a comunist country can.

Anyways, 1st day over, and Romania got 1st Gold medal :romania:
Too many channels to watch though to keep on the interesting stuff.

I feel sorry for the enduro athletes who have to fuck their lungs up.
Phelps already has a gold....8 would be cool. Canada's supposed to have a revamped swim program that is supposed to produce atleast a few medals. would be nice I guess
What are they going to do with all those nice blokes on Hastings once 2010 rolls around? same thing they did with kelowna's? move them a few streets over...

I watched a great badminton match between Anna Rice (Canada’s top female badminton player) and Eva Green (some US player). And it was great. They were neck-in-neck the entire time but in the end, Anna came through and defeated Eva. I was cheering for Anna the entire time.

And then the next day I watched the beach volleyball match between the U.S. and Latvia. The U.S. team with Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser were the world champions and ranked #1. Then Latvia, rank at 21 of 24, defeated them. It was pretty amazing. But the U.S. guys were very angry.

“The Americans? We’re going to smash them. That’s what we came here for,” Bernard said.

Oh Bernard, you silly Frenchman. Don't you realize America always wins?

LOL in your face.

PHELPS, PHELPS, PHELPS.

Hearing about Phelps depresses me... he's only 23 and he's already a world renown sport superstar. Not to mention all the endorsements and stuff. Kind of hard to compete with that...

I think I'll go freshen up my cat's litter box now... you know, while Phelps continues amazing the world...

If Phelps was an amazing start, then I don't know what to call Lezak. Absolutely mind-blowing.

Yeah, now they're just a Totalitarian Oligarchy. You can't be communist and participate in capiatlism, but that doesn't make their government less awful (not that I'm saying you think they're better or good).

My neighbor's son is a missionary in China, and he spends his life jumping from hiding place to hiding place because the "unofficial" Chinese gestapo are always trying to hunt down people like him.

China talks a big game, but its still a ton of lies and oppression. Just because the master gives the dog a few more links of chain, it doesn't mean the dog is free.

But overall I find it hilarious that everyone is saying how China is now the leading world power because of the opening ceremonies. It'll take a little more than that to impress me. Something like, oh I don't know... giving their people the right to choose their own government.

I like how the people in back (TV) were probably thinking "Everyone wants to see this again from many angles in slow-mo" and the announcers are just saying I think at least twice "We don't need to see this again" and it just keeps going! :lolz:

On a serious note, damn that hurt hard

KillerGremlin
08-14-2008, 08:39 AM
lol, accidents like that are pretty common with weight lifting. If you think that looks bad you should see the videos of guys knees/legs breaking when they try to squat.

Anyway, the beach volleyball swimsuits definitely are more skimpy this time around...which is niceee. Tall, sexy, super athletic, blond babes...the Olympic committee gets a gold metal for that one.

Also, Phelps is actually a seal. This has been confirmed.

I remember seeing a video of a guy doing a squat and I think it was his right leg that just completely gave out and that was scary/crazy.
