So is anyone else looking forward to this game as much as I am?

I really hope bethesda dont fu*k it up.

My question is this. And bare in mind I dont get long to research such things, I am at work... :sneaky: 'looks around for boss'

I have noticed three different versions of the game have been announced.

Fallout 3
Fallout 3 Collectors Edition
Fallout 3 Survival Edition

Whats the difference dudes?

Sh!t... my boss is coming...

Ok.. I'm probably more excited about this than you are, because I don't care if Bethesda fu*k it up or not (it's Fallout!) :D

I also had a Vault 13 t-shirt made, and currently modifying it a bit to add the stripes :D I'll post pics when it's done.

Anyway, the Collector's Edition comes in a Vault-Tec lunchbox, has a "making of Fallout 3" DVD, a Vault Boy bobblehead and an artbook. The Survival Edition (buy this one!) has everything the CE has, plus a full scale Pip-Boy wristwatch, and only available in the US, over Amazon (damn it!).

I'm going to try to buy a CE.

Fallout 3 looks like fun but I hate the art style and I wish that they just called it "Zombie Fallout" and made the baddies zombies....way better idea in my opinion.

The gameplay does look good though, and that's all that matters. We will see when it comes out I guess.

I don't know...I'm just not impressed with the art style. We will see if I like it when I actually get a chance to play it.

I think developers are JUST realizing the untapped nerd-potential in zombie games. Who is a nerd and doesn't love zombies. Zombies are pure win, and a zombie game where you have to survive in a post-apocalyptic world would be amazing. I'm waiting for the zombie MMO. It's coming.

Ok first off let me say that I pre-ordered the Survival addition of the game and I have played the older ones on PC as well. I am extremely excited to play it and the videos on Xbox live look awesome. The only gripe I have with it is that it’s Oblivion with different characters. It looks like Oblivion, plays like Oblivion; it might as well be Oblivion 2. I liked Oblivion so this gripe doesn’t mean that I will not get the game its just kind of lame for such hype over a remake of a remake with new skin.

I got to watch the developers run through a demo of this game at PAX and all I can say is HOLY FUCK!

I am so pumped for this game. In the demo, the developers stealthed a live hand grenade into someone's pocket, nailed someone's head to a wall with a railroad spike gun, beat people down with a hydraulic fist, and caused a nuclear explosion.

Also, for attending the demo, everyone got a random prize. I got an actual hand puppet based on the vault boy puppet from the comic strip Penny Arcade is doing on the Fallout website.

Lucky.

I think Fallout games tend to start slow (as do other RPGs, but I don't have much experience with them), so it's normal that it was boring. I think it'll turn out great though.

RoachGnome

Oblivion also started slow if you remember. In jail, walking through the old sewer fighting rats. Not too much excitement there either. But the whole 1950s era post apocalyptic thing is going to be cool.

I can't wait for this game! I have pre-ordered the CE at EB Games. I haven't heard of the survival edition, otherwise i would have gotten hat.

I have played, and replayed Fallout 1&2 at least half a dozen times each, and i love them. Best RPGs ever made IMO.

I don't think there are any RPGs with as many elements as fallout 2. Drugs, prostitution, gambling, slaving, mob families, so many options, so little time.

I have a feeling still that Bethesda has screwed up the series with Fallout 3, but i won't know until i play. I mean, sure they might have kept the vast expanse of the map, the VATS targeting system, and the perks system, but they have changed everything else. They've changed the games from a top-down view to first person; they have made combat in real time; I'm pretty sure they took out everything i mentioned above; i REALLY hope they haven't taken out the humor.

Combine 017

You can change the view from first person to third person at any time and you can fight in real time or use VATS for more of a turn based kind of thing, I think. And of course theres going to be humor, a guy wants you to blow up a town with an atomic bomb because its in the way of his view. :p

On another note, you can go here (http://www.prepareforthefuture.com/?fbid=x6G8vSzk_Wp) to watch a few vids about some fallout features. They are interactive at then end of the clip so dont forget to click around.

yeah i know all that, but third person is just isn't the same as top-down view. It will make the game feel different. Also, about VATS, i know it's an optional thing in the middle of a real-time fight, but i was hoping they would have an option of making combat 100% turn based (based on AP) or have it as they do now.

All i can say is i will have to wait before i judge...

I think that Bethesda can do some really good work with this game, but we'll see how they take a true FPS approach.

An FPS/RPG...rare genre in my opinion, but the few I've seen are fantastic. (System Shock 2, Deus Ex, etc.)

I don't think the game with work too well in third-person. I never liked playing Elder Scrolls in third-person. Threw my aim off, etc.

ARGH!!!! I HATE EBGAMES! (GameStop to you americans)

I pre-ordered the collector's edition about a month ago for PC. I get to the store after work to pick it up and they have a PS3 version waiting for me! that would be all fine and dandy IF I HAD A PS3!!!

So they told me they could contact head office tomorrow and see when (and IF) they are getting any more in, and told me to sit tight.

so after talkting to them for about 30 minutes and trying to convince them to give me the regular edition and then exchange it for me when they get my collector's edition in, and asking them to give me someone else's pre-order cause of their mess-up...they said no and i ended up with the regular edition :(.

sigh...installing the game now anyway, it better be as good as they say it is.

Happydude
10-30-2008, 06:07 PM
well, as big of a fan as i am of fallout...i have to say that Fallout 3 fell short of my expectations. The only things that are "fallout" about it is VATS, the environment, and the story. Everything else screams oblivion, from the NPC interaction, to the gameplay.

In oblivion, you ran around, doing quests, eventually finishing the main quest while collecting items, making items, and killing random bad creatures that you encountered throughout the world...sadly, this game is no different.

I think what ruins it the most for me is the camera (same as oblivion, by the way...either first person or third person) and the real-time battle system (which, by the way, is identical to oblivion without the VATS).

And don't get me wrong, i loved oblivion, i put a good 40 hours into the game at least, and i no doubt will do the same with fallout...i just wish it had more fallout features. Options to have turn-based battles, or to have a helicopter camera view, and maybe *something i haven't tested yet* be able to talk to brahmin if you intelligence was very low would make this game feel a hell of a lot more like fallout.

anyway, back to the game...

I found the schematics for a nuka-cola grenade today. It takes nuka-cola quantum, a tin can, turpentine and abraxo cleaner to make. The pretty explosion is well worth the 700 caps it took to buy alone but the added high damage and setting things on fire as well makes it so much more worth it. Now if I could only find more quantum nuka-colas laying around.

I can easily see replayability in it. Easily.

The thing I like so far, is that the XP you earn is directly tied to what difficulty you play on.

There is a side quest where some lady wants you to get her 30 of them. Shes offers you caps and the schematics to the quantum grenade, V2 if you already have 1. He lives in a junk yard. I found that he actually ruined my ability to sneak up on shit and also to avoid things I didn't want to fight. Long story short, that dog will get you into trouble.

But I also watched him single handedly take on a super mutant so that was cool.

I just make the dog stand around at my house.

Once i found better team mates i sent him home.

Hes to the south of Minefield, in the Scrapyard. And no, you could say he ruins your chances to sneak around, but in some cases he makes it better because if he is spotted that doesnt mean you are. He can be fighting someone while you sneak up on then and put a grenade in their pocket.

So I had a dream that BaB called my cell phone the other night, and when I looked down to answer it, Three Dog's face was the picture set to his phone number.

Awesome.

Oh come on, its so obvious that you could probably sue them for stealing your face.

:roflmao: Yeah man... he should definately seek legal advice on that one

Totally smashed this game to pieces now. Done all the quests. I enjoyed it, it was good. Lots of glitches and bits that made me wonder if anyone actually play tested it but hey, not as bad as fable 2 as far as glitches go I suppose.

You can pickpocket anything off anyone. Including clothes and wepons. Even Colonel Autumn.

To steal someones wepon that they have equipped, save, pickpocket their bullets leave the area and go back there, so it physically has to re-load the area. They should now have unequipped their gun. So pickpocket it. You can get a lot of rare guns this way.

To get their clothes you have to plant clothes with a higher DR (Defence Rating) than the ones they are wearing, on them whilst pickpocketing. You can get BaB's... sorry... Three Dogs Head Wrap and Glasses this way. Give him a Power Helmet, his voice sounds funny in it.

So many other little things I could mention, like warping or fast travelling if you like, after you leave Ravenrock, so you can get back in. That is if you didnt blow it up. The trick is once you leave dont step on the top step at the entrance or it locks the door which you can blow off its hinges yes but it will make an invisible wall if you arent lucky.

Save befeore you do anything, especially theiving and trying to break the game.

Anybody manage to jump out of megaton? Find anyone just to the north in the wilderness? I did, the people that disappeared from my megaton.

Try the clothes swapping method I mentioned earlier on the children in Little Lamplight. You can get several unique costumes this way. The Mole Hat, Star Pyjamas etc.

Be warned, if you give the girls raider armour they suddenly grow boobs, funny if a little strange.

You dont seem to be able to steal their hats though, except for the kid in the baseball cap. When you try and wear it, it is giant, floats above your head because it doesnt fit properly.
