View Full Version : [Wii] We Love Golf! The premier golf experience of the 00's!
It just shipped today and it exceeded my expectations! Camelot is the true golf king. What it lacks in graphics it makes up in gameplay. So good. AND there's online, now.
If you're a golf fan, you've got to check out this new gameplay system. I definitely think Camelot's revolutionized the golf game. You do swing the Wiimote to swing your club in the game, but it has everything to do with timing, which I think is a great way to get beginners into it, too.

Not that I'm a golf game fan.
But I would take Dyne's word for it for now because I know he LOVES his golf games. And we know he played several Hot Shots because he blogged about it. :lolz:
I read this one review that thought HSG: Out Of Bounds was better, but I disagree. The review also called this game easy.. I guess he never played enough to get past Beginner's Stroke?
You have to realize Hot Shots Golf was made by Camelot initially and Clap Hanz took over the project. I think they've both had a lot of advances, but I still think Camelot does it better.
HSG is great for sound and graphics but the gameplay just doesn't compare. But HSG: Open Tee 2 definitely does reign in the portable department.

I've been playing a lot of Wii Sports Golf recently. How would you say it compares, Phil. In terms of how you play, that is.
Also, there is four player 18 hole, yes?
Yep, up to four player, and there's even a full online mode (as far as Nintendo online goes, though.)
The swing mechanic is a bit different from Wii Sports Golf but you'll definitely be satisfied.

I've got this game in my requests on Goozex. Bah.
I just unlocked the Jungle Hills Championship course. It is so awesome and hilly. The game has really come alive in the 5th and 6th courses. I wonder how many courses there are to unlock.

Could you explain the controls a bit more?
You know I'm a big golf game nut, too. Just curious.
It's definitely an evolution of the three-click mechanic - It uses the bar to tell you the power of your swing. You basically set up your shot, and then motion your Wii remote down as if you're going to swing. You can then hold B for a practice swing, or hold A to take the shot. When you take the shot, there's two markers - a wii remote marker, and a character club marker. The more you pull back and angle the wii remote up, the more power you will have in your shot.
So you move your Wii remote back and then you have to pause and hold that position, and the character's club icon will catch up and mimic what you just did. When it reaches that point in the bar that you've paused at, the character's swing will start, and when the character club goes left to the icon quickly, you need to swing your Wii remote at exactly the right time to make a good impact so it doesn't slice or draw. Throughout the swing, you have control of slices and draws, too, by twisting your Wii remote and holding it through the swing.
The only problem I have with it is that it feels kind of funny and unintuitive when you stand to the side with your foot forward - but there's a brief camera moment that looks in the character's perspective at the ball, which helps. Also, it kind of poo-poos over the whole golf mentality of "keeping your head down". :lolz: But it's still fun and satisfying.
Putting is the same way, too, but some douches with gaming industry blogs went and said it was too hard, and now it's tuned so that it's really hard to miss. :(

Hmm. Sounds kind of interesting, but I guess it's one of those thing you just gotta try.
