Hey, I need your help here.

I'm at a few friends and their PC won't play DVDs. We suspect it's a hardware problem.

We tried many DVD players. Windows Media Player won't play it, VLC player only plays the language selection screen. PowerDVD doesn't play it either.

Because VLC player did play a piece, I don't think it's a codec problem. And their PC should be strong enough to play DVDs.
The DVD-ROM player doesn't show any problems in the hardware overview.

We have no idea what could be wrong... Perhaps you have some suggestions? :)

Download the combined community codec (http://www.cccp-project.net/)to make sure it isn't a codec problem.

Also make sure the door says "DVD" on it, to make sure it actually is a DVD player and not just a CD player.

And what kind of DVD is it? A real purchased movie, or a burnt dvd?

And give me the brand of the computer.

Yeah it's a DVD player. ;)
It's a purchased DVD of The Bourne Identity. Other DVDs also didn't work.

I installed FFDshow (codec pack), now WMP says that it can't play the DVD and we need to lower the screen resolution... Testing it now.

Edit: didn't work. Maybe their video card isn't good enough? See the specs attached.
