View Full Version : [BC crew] What are you spending your $100 dividend on?

So in BC they just mailed out a "Climate Action Dividend" of $100 and I'm pretty sure they won't keep tabs on how you spend it. It's a pretty lol plan but hey, any free amount of money is fine by me.

Anyways, what are my fellow BC people spending it on?

Personally, I'm considering a pair of oakleys for when I'm running, to decrease my wind drag and improve my aerodynamics. Yes, I know, completely bullshit, like this free money.

Well considering the money is coming from the overpayment on taxes we in BC have, and is basically hush money for the 3 cent raise per Litre on gas they're enacting, I'll probably just stick my money in the bank, considering A) It's money I earned anyways and B) It'll get taxed eventually, anyhow.

I'm probably just going to buy a garden gnome or something.

We Americans get this except it's called "an economic stimulus package" and we get $600! Take that, Canadians. I don't know what I'll spend mine one. Probably gas...

This isn't all across Canada.
It's just in BC.
And they're only doing it because - as I said - they're raising the cost of gas by 3 cents a litre, bringing it to well over 1.50 a litre.

Which means, since 1 gallon is about 3.8 litres, that makes it about 5.70 a gallon for gas.

And which, my friends - makes me very, very displeased.

What's the government's rationale for the gas tax raise?

"Carbon Tax."

See, the thing with the government of BC, is they really, really love awkward, confusing, unnecesary taxes.

This is the best part, which nobody looks at, either:

As of July 1, there will be a 2.41-cent increase per litre in gasoline. By 2012, it will be 7.24 cents per litre.

Sounds like a cover-up to finance the government's out-of-control spending to me. These "green initiatives" are so popular...

Maybe, but random taxes like that aren't really uncommon.

They're adding a few cents onto the gas tax here in Kentucky as well, but our last governor left things in pretty bad shape (not entirely his fault, our state is full of idiotic Representatives), so they have to fix it somehow.

It's just funny how they tax the one thing people are already complaining about.

Personally, I think they should start taxing dental products. No one will really complain if they have to pay an extra nickel on their toothbrush or toothpaste or some dental floss.

So at the bank today, I asked, and apparently not many people have deposited this. I think they must have started in the middle of the alphabets with the L's and M's.

Also, I don't get it. Is this going to EVERY adult or just the ones that have car insurance? I have the sneaking suspicion that the government is not so dense as to send money to people who've never paid a cent towards gas.

Hey so my brother's friend's brothers are getting this. They really ARE sending it to every "adult and child."

Wow. Wow, Liberal government.

Typhoid

Well, it's only 100 dollars, right.
That's a small price to pay, to look really gallant, for the money they'll reap in from this in a few months time. Not even months.

The gas goes up, when? July 1? (I dont know if it does.)

But what do people do with money, generally? They spend it. Especially kids.
What do they spend it on? They spend it on things, generally.
And generally, how do people get to places where things reside, so they can buy them?
In cars.
And generally, what do cars use as go-juice?
That's right, the newly tax-heightened gas.

Dear BC,

We have your cheques for the heightened gas prices. We regret to inform you though that they are being stored in Hope and you'll have to drive here to pick them up.

Love,

Government
