View Full Version : The hell is up with pricing on HD movies? or: Why is an HD-DVD more than a Blu-Ray?

I was just checking up on amazon to see how much Blades of Glory is because I saw it at Target on BD the other day and wanted to pick it up. But I see that they are charging more for the old HD-DVD version than the Blu-Ray version. Not that I mind, I'd be buying it on Blu Ray anyways, but it seems pretty damn retarded to charge more for the dead format.

It's a weird point in time for HD movies. It's all to do with cycles. Blades of Glory is pretty new, and in reality, the Blu-ray WOULD be the same price, but there's a huge push on the Blu-ray consortium's part to get prices down so more people buy Blu-rays instead of DVDs, while taking a hit. And obviously movies companies don't like taking the hit on a dying format. The thing with amazon is that there's no real "shelf" space, and shelf space is a million times more valuable at a rental store, which is the only place I've seen HD-DVD "clearance" sales so far.
So, basically, HD-DVDs are for short-term money, and Blu-ray is now a long-term investment for them.

HD-DVD is getting rare? Rare = expensive I guess.
Dyne, what's Dr. Evil's son doing in your sig?

Seth Green is awesome, and definitely more than Dr. Evil's son. :D He's been in a ton of things: Mass Effect, Buffy, Robot Chicken, AND Austin Powers.

He does Family Guy too.

It's all overpriced anyways for anything HD related. Yeah, it's higher quality, but I'm content with DVD still. I'm not in the upper middle class to get a 42" or higher TV, and honestly, I've grown to care less about upgrading so quickly. Just becoming a waste of money and the fact it's caused enough personal issues with trying to break addictions.

Feels nice to finally exercise an option I haven't used on GT in years. No more seeing pointless drivel from an asinine person.

There's a mute option on GT? Huh, I never knew. I guess that's what you're talking about, Jonbo.

Yeah, there's an "ignore" option. :)

:lolz: At first I was wondering what you were talking about then it hit me... the ignore function.
Nicely done!

The problem, of course, it that the ignore function doesn't stop you from knowing I posted, and oh, you know how curious you must be to know if, just perhaps, I mentioned you. It's so easy! Just a quick mouse-tap, and there I am. Or maybe you're less self-absorbed... of course you are! Perhaps I got into an elaborate argument, and you'd just be left out if you didn't check up to see just what I was saying. I mean, you have to, right? You don't have a choice! I understand!
Or hell, maybe someone will quote me, and won't that just ruin your blockade?
Of course, personally, I'd try to resolve my issue with the asinine person head on, but do take the coward's way out. It suits you! :P
At least I don't have to fret that my posts aren't being read. I see you there. Hi!
ps: maybe next time don't be an attention whore about what you do? That kind of shit makes me just want to ignore the heck out of you.

How much care really goes into clicking the "view post" button? :P
The ignore function on GameFAQs is the only instance of the system that I think is truly effective, because it completely removes the user's presence. It effectively does censor out the person from the forum for you.
The "ignore" function on vB really does the exact opposite, and highlights the person, because the ignored post sticks out more than a standard one.
Lighten up, Renny.
See though, but isn't this just the predicament! If I create a nonsensical topic or bump up something old, its met with a resistance and bumhugging. Or here, if I make fun of someone in what I feel is fairly obviously a joking fashion (I am crude, but have I displayed an intent to be outright hurtful? I hope not! Truly, I do!), I see a nice bit of baiting in reply.
Shall I lighten up only where it is deemed appropriate? :P

That's all I'm saying. What you said was obviously a joke, but it obviously struck a nerve with Jonbo. So instead of saying something simple like, I dunno, "I'm sorry" or "sorry didn't know my joke would hurt you that bad," you instead went on and egged him on.
But whatever, it's da internetz, which means free reign to be a dick with no repercussions! MIRITE? MIRITE, GUYZ?

Erm? If he truly found it offensive and wished to block communication with me, there isn't a necessity to publicly inform me or you about it, is there?
Beyond the fact that I would have had no response to make if he had simply used the ignore function as intended and kept it to himself, in theory, I can't egg on someone who really isn't viewing my posts. I also can't apologize, in theory. :P
If he was in fact viewing my post, I stand by the point that ignoring me in the first place was a useless act, and done so only to stir up things.
I do enjoy being a dick. I like to think that I can admit to that pretty freely. I hardly think of myself as unique. You're kind of one too, lol (http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showpost.php?p=230218&postcount=50). But I think many of you find a given activity less dickish if it is participated in or held up as okay by others. It is quite easy to be an asshole about something when everyone else is doing the same, and, likewise, easy to explain away your assholish behavior in group-think.

I reiterate, a simple "sorry" or something similar would have done, whether he read it or not.

But that link is not a good example, that was a response to you being a dick -- twice.

You'd like me to apologize for something I'm not sorry for? Or, I guess, you actually would like me to be sorry. But I'm not. I don't like to lie. :P
But that link is not a good example, that was a response to you being a dick -- twice.
Is it? I think you could find far better examples of me being a dick. No, that was a bit of inebriated honesty. Its truly how I feel. Regardless of what I said though, if you're going to sling around this "don't be a dick" malarky, you probably should take strides not to be one. It just seems a bit hypocritical. "Well, I'm not that bad," but eh, I don't buy that.
Also, if its being a dick to comment after someone brings it back up a page later when we've moved on, well, you have fucked standards for how you apply the dick label. :P
Nice
