I think this may become an on-going series. See how it goes over and how many games we have to discuss. :p

Anyhow, this is partially bought on by the two recent Bioshocks threads, but those were bought on by this. I know circular logic.

This game was released back in August of 2007 to a ton of rave reviews. It garnered a bunch of Game of the Year nominations. It has been hailed as a new movement.

However, has anyone actually played it recently? It seemed like one of those awesome movies that change your life once, but that's it. You can never see it again as it just loses a lot the second time through. Is Bioshock that game? Has anyone played through it multiple times? Are the multiple endings worth it?

Personally and this may not be the best start, I wasn't a huge fan of the game. It remains one of the few games I gave away within days of buying it. I don't know what it was about the game that didn't draw me thoug.

I actually recently re-purchased it on the PC... Don't ask me why... I think I mostly just wanted it sitting on my PC shelf next to my copy of System Shock 2... Plus the price had dropped...

I, as with most people, thought it had a very nice plot, amazing atmosphere and supoib art design...
The gameplay, while somewhat addictivey fun (at least the first time through) was extremely simple and repetitive...
There were no real puzzles, there were no real obstacles, there were no real RPG elements, there was just point A to point B, shoot stuff on the way... And overall it just felt like a watered-down System Shock 2...

But I must say, even the plot lost me a bit at the halfway point, when it took the exact same twist as System Shock 2...
The entire way up until that point, I was saying to myself "They're using the exact same method of a person you never actually meet in person guiding you through a strange, hazardous environment... It's probably a red-herring and a nod for System Shock fans, it can't end up the same way."... Then it did... And I sorta let out a long sigh...

I'm reposting this video review, because it's amazing and dead-on.

I played it again a few months after I finished it, and lost steam about a third of the way through. I have an urge to play it again though, and I probably will if EB discounts it this summer.

A very beautiful game, and it loses something in the replaying. If the last three or four hours weren't muddled by fetch quests, it'd be a much better game. Really, it could have wrapped up soon after the twist.

I enjoyed it, it was truly a beautiful thing to behold. Very few games have the level of atmosphere and art design that Bioshock had. But, the gameplay was kind of boring and it didn't have the replayability that games like Half-Life or No One Lives Forever have had for me. Personally, I enjoy a game with a sense of humor or tons of surprises. Bioshock was definitely one of the prettier first person shooters to come out recently, but it wasn't quite as fun as it should have been. It was a far cry from other beautiful games like Far Cry. I miss Far Cry. I think I'm going to go play that now.

Just beat this. Was alright, good story and superb atmoshphere, but I was so stressed playing it I could barely enjoy it. If one more freaking splicer popped out of a window, or ambushed me from behind I swear I am going to be carrying a shotgun the rest of my life!
