This works out well for me, because I wasn't planning on making a blog.
But hell, if the shoe fits, eat it.

So over the past week or so, I dusted off the PS2, plugged it in, and have been playing Final Fantasy X again. Upon beating the game, I started to think "Could this be it? Could this be the best Final Fantasy game so far?"

Now, I know there is a lot of nuh uh's, over Final Fantasy VII, and VI.

But I started thinking, what makes a good Final Fantasy game? What makes it the best? You can't factor in storyline alone. That's like saying the only thing that matters about music is the length of the album.

The reason why, I arguably now think Final Fantasy X is the best one, is very simple. First off, I'm holding no previous "This final fantasy game is the best ever" ideas to cloud my judgements of it. Secondly, the storyline isn't all that
bad. It's cheesy, but when has a Final Fantasy storyline not been cheesy? I don't know why people hold it so low on the scale, because the storyline in this is actually probably one of the best put together storylines for a game of it's type that I've seen.

I for one, love the sphere grid. I think it's well put together, and is by far the best attribute system in any of the games. The customization of weapons is well-done, and something I think they were wrong to ever get rid of in the series

For graphics, hands down it is the best. I mean since then, there has been XI, and XII, and even X-2, but somehow X still looks leaps and bounds past them.

The overall feel of the world is nearly-epic. Everything feels connected, as it should. The seemingly invisible transitions between areas (not in load time, but in looks) is astounding. Running across the world just has a "oh shit" sort of feel to it. I mean you can cheat and start flying across it, but I'm a sucker for having that epic feel and just calmly jogging through it all.

After beating the game, every time, it was the only game I actually got a chill down my spine on when the closing cinematic was playing.

The minigame in this one is by far better than cards. Who doesn't love Blitzball, okay? I would die for an ACTUAL blitzball game to be released. I would buy the crap out of that game.

So, you may still have your no way's over this game being the best. You may love the oldschool ones you played as a kid, and nostalgia won't allow you to let go of the thought that something is better. But for being the first Final Fantasy to have voice-acting, amazing graphics, a deep storyline, and a large-feeling world, this - to me, is the best Final Fantasy for replayability, fun-ness, and overall storyline.

I actually do agree. I've never finished any FF's, but I played the hell out of FFX. Now you're making me want to finish it. *shakes fist*

I need one of those PS3>PS2 memory card adapters though.

I sadly never played FFX, because my PS2 would not let it play past a certain point.

But from the ones I have played I would say that FFIX is my favorite. Something about the atmosphere in the game, how it was more fantasy then the past two had been. Going back to the out of this world fantasy aspects of the game. I just loved it. And the characters. Vivi was just amazing and yeah...man I need this game again

Yeah, I don't know if I could put them in order, but my favourite FFs were definitely FFIX, FFVI and FFX.
