It maybe a bit early into this gen to ask this but I figured why not. After seeing the turn that gaming has taken this gen with the Wii's domination where do you see it going next gen?

Will Sony and Microsoft implement more motion technology or in Microsofts case, will it be added at all? If so, how do you see motion sensor controls affecting the business?

Will Nintendo be on the cutting edge with HD quality visuals and audio with a more fine-tuned motion sensoring Wiimote?

Will "casual" games take a more prominent role in each companies lineups?

How will Wii 2 be received? If it's not too much more than an improved Wii then how will that sell since the normal Wii buyer doesn't seem to be aware of things like Blu-Ray, 1080p, 5.1 Surround Sound, etc.? What will motivate the current Wii owners to upgrade to the next big thing instead of just keeping their Wii and continuing to play Wii Sports or whatever else?

And console-wise, do you see anyone dropping out of gaming? Anyone coming into gaming? Anyone returning to gaming *winks at Sega*?

Basically, what the hell will we be doing come time for the next batch of gaming consoles?

Personally, I see Sony and Microsoft definetly better implementing motion controls into their systems. I don't know what Nintendo will do to get their swarms of people back to purchase the next console down the line, but I'm interested to see what they do. Also, Nintendo without a doubt will be in the HD buisness, I'm just interested in how powerful that bad boy is gonna be and how they treat online gaming next time around, I think they need to take it more serious and I think they will.

I see Microsoft getting one last chance with their hardware, if they can't pull their shit together next-gen when it comes to hardware then they need to give it up. They can be huge again, because they've got the games and the marketing to make the big money and bring in the people. I fear for them using motion controls because they will be new to it regardless of if we see the release of the "Xbox Wiimote" this gen or not, but I skeptically welcome it.

Sony, is gonna have to take as much time as is needed and make the PS4 very solid software and hardware-wise when it's launched with a respectable price. But if they get their shit straight then I don't see why they couldn't take over once again like they did with the PS2. The PS3 is basically on track now, but the fact that they got off to such a rough start, leaves a sour taste in consumers mouths.

One last thing (I think), All three companies need new IP's, give us more new games and keep up with the solid sequels that all three companies already offer us.

Thoughts on all of this folks?

I think they will. Microsoft will no-doubt do it as a purchase option/add-on.
Sony will try to do it differently than the others, as they did with Sixaxis.

Will Nintendo be on the cutting edge with HD quality visuals and audio with a more fine-tuned motion sensoring Wiimote?

No. Nintendo doesn't focus on graphics. Nintendo focuses on children, and nostalgia for 90's kids.

Will "casual" games take a more prominent role in each companies lineups?

That won't change at all. I think there will be a steady stream of sit-down games such as Final Fantasy, Mario, MGS, etc - but there will also be games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Rock Band, Guitar Hero etc.

How will Wii 2 be received? If it's not too much more than an improved Wii then how will that sell since the normal Wii buyer doesn't seem to be aware of things like Blu-Ray, 1080p, 5.1 Surround Sound, etc.? "Wii2" will be recieved much as the Wii was. The Wii is no more than a GC with a little graphics boost and a motion censor - and the leap from Wii to the next, won't be any different. The graphics on the next Nintendo system will be near-par with the current gen PS3 or 360.

And console-wise, do you see anyone dropping out of gaming? Anyone coming into gaming? Anyone returning to gaming *winks at Sega*?

Nobody will drop out. Systems may merge. I can see Microsoft merging with Nintendo, system wise. I can see Sega sprogging off a new system. But people say that every gen. And Dreamcast has left a bad taste in their mouth for years, despite being surprisingly revolutionary though nobody recognizes that.

Basically, what the hell will we be doing come time for the next batch of gaming consoles?

I believe we'll be talking about it for years, and making assumptions which aren't correct in any aspect at all. We are consumers. We're never right. Video game companies don't give consumers what they want right off the bat. They give consumers what they think they want - and then listen to the backlash 4 months down the road.

I do however think console gaming will be in direct competition with computer gaming next gen. The PS3 is somewhat proof of that now. For a console, they do a computer really well. I would much rather surf the web on my 48'' LCD, than I would on my 20'' LCD screen.

So I guess there will be a period where there is a large gray area of whether or not some systems are systems, or whether they are a new type of personal computer - and if so, what makes a computer any different from that system in question.

From a business standpoint, it would make no sense not to add motion controls.
I however foresee Sony improving on the Sixaxis and MS doing something dumb like releasing two separate controllers.

Will Nintendo be on the cutting edge with HD quality visuals and audio with a more fine-tuned motion sensoring Wiimote?
I don't think Nintendo will be on the cutting edge, Nintendo for all the money they make are a cheap company. I think they will be closer to PS3/360 next round.

Will "casual" games take a more prominent role in each companies lineups?
I personally hope the term dies. Casual gaming has always been around. I see it being just as important as it has always been.

How will Wii 2 be received?
It depends on what Wii 2 is, but really they have the mindshare so it will carry over for a bit.

Like every console, that must have game. :p

Basically, what the hell will we be doing come time for the next batch of gaming consoles?
Basically gaming will go down two paths. There will be an increase in the technical aspect such as graphics and sound. There will also be a natural progression in the physical interface.

One last thing (I think), All three companies need new IP's, give us more new games and keep up with the solid sequels that all three companies already offer us.
New IPs are a scary thing. A lot fall flat on their face and then some rise, but yeah I would love to see more risk in gaming. Starting with this gen.

I think it will be like this generation, but faster.

Bold. You're really going out on a limb on that one.
