Question Regarding Removable HDD

I have a wonderful Lacie hard drive that I used throughout the school year, and it worked perfectly, but I recently found its power adapter that I have been neglecting to use.

Should I be using the power adapter? It would appear as though it doesn't require it to function. I was using the Lacie drive injunction with a USB hub with my Macbook Pro.

I'd say no. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Some external drives need them, some don't. It may perform better with the extra juice, though.

Yeah, transfers may be way quicker with the power. My external one requires it all the time.

The AC adaptor was only provided for older computers that wouldn't be able to power it themselves.
