View Full Version : Why Fable 2 will Fail...

... in the same ways the original did is because of the lack of open space. Throughout Fable you were able to see these vast areas of Albion... and were made to feel horribly hemmed in by not being able to travel to pretty much any of them.

Looking at vids of Fable 2, it looks like more of the same. The issues I had with Fable have nothing to do with what they are addressing in Fable 2.

The issue is that it was a shallow dungeon crawl that taunted you with images of a vast world you'd never see.

Pretty much. I think all of the blame goes to Peter Molyneux. He hypes his games up so much it is impossible to live up to the billing.

Minus the hype, I don't think Fable really succeeded as a good action/rpg, much less a pure RPG. The gameplay and environments (spacially) reminded me more Blood Omen 2 than anything remarkable, groundbreaking and far from robust, and the vids of fable 2 don't show me that anything has changed.

It's not bad to limit environments if you jave them limited visually as well. It can add to the feel of the game. But showing such a lush world and then not letting you explore it was just frustrating and dissappointing.

I read nothing about the first Fable and I was satisfied with it. I wasnt drawn in by the hype, I to plan to do that with this one.

If you watched the videos or read anything, you might have seen that you can jump over those fences and explore the entire world. :- )

This is what kind of ruined Mario Galaxy for me. I know it's totally different, but it doesn't have the level of exploration that Mario 64 or Banjo had. Fences, set by technology, are the bane of video game design today.

Turok also has a lot of fences. :( But it's NOWHERE near as bad as Bioshock or Halo 3.

Bioshock was good though.
How could you explore underwater Phil, TELL ME THAT.

Bioshock was epic. It was worth every penny.

True.
But underwater would be pointless.

...Not if there was WHALES FOR BOSSES

Think about it. Whales would be awesome. And then you could like, harness the power of the sea creatures to take down Andrew Ryan.

haaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha.
That was the best defensive argument ever.

Alright, I'm sold.
Whale-bosses and harnessing the power of the ocean would be mighty fantastic.

Eh. As far as I'm concerned the original Fable was an epic fail, particularly after all the hype. I have few hopes for this. We shall see.

I think it won't fail because it looks awesome. the multiplayer alone sounds splendid.

I'm not talking about how the game will be in general. Only that he doesn't have to hope that he can traverse the world map without arbitrary fence boundaries.

The game is a toss-up.

It'll be better than Too Human, at least. And I use that "least" in the most extreme sense of the word when talking about Too Human.
