I decided to put my name in the title, because all the cool kids do so. :)
As you know, I got a new computer with a pretty good graphics card and all. I enjoyed Crysis, which ran pretty good on it. Now I'm looking for more.
I haven't been into PC gaming for a few years, so I kind of lost track of what's around and what's good. There are a lot of shooters, but I don't really like first person shooters that much.
What can you recommend me? It shouldn't take too much time, shouldn't be a fps and it shouldn't be too much online. I like discovering big fictional worlds, so a science fiction game would be nice. Maybe a cool strategy game?

Well, I'd suggest World of Warcraft if you're willing to pay a monthly fee and don't mind getting addicted to a game. But aside from that, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is awesome and should work great on your PC and it fits right into the big fictional worlds you like so much.

Elder Scrolls 3 or 4 (Morrowind or Oblivion) both are awesome games...
Assassin's Creed (looks wicked sick)
Call of duty 4...it's a pretty short game, but very nice...most of the fun game play is online though.
There aren't many new good RPGs or games from genres other than FPSs. but soon...i'm waiting on Starcraft 2, Fallout 3, and Spore...all of which should be coming out later this year...

Okay all of these suggestions suck. My suggestion might be a few years old, but it was an awsome game, one of the most underappreciated games of last generation. Its a 3rd person action/adventure/puzzle solving, set in a fictional world, and has my science fiction elements. Awsome graphics, characters, and voice acting. An amazing story, this one will suck you in for sure...drumroll please....

This is of course only if you didnt allready play it!

If you want a good strategy game, go no further than...
http://www.totalwar.com/index.html?page=/en/medieval2/&nav=/en/medieval2/
With your PC specs, you'll be able to field massive armies and have thousands of troops on the field at one time.
Empire: Total War with massive naval battles is cpoming out soon, too. Here's a little taste...

Ha, they do not suck. BG&E is great, I just assumed he already played it for consoles.
Another older one I'd suggest is Deus Ex, as it's AWESOME. Don't pass it off as an FPS, you only have to kill one person in the whole game to finish and the nonlinear story system is pure bliss.

Thanks for the tips guys. :)
WoW: played it for 2 years, quit when TBC came out. I'm not starting it again, because it's too addicting.
Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: played it for months.
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion: I played a bit on my brother's PC (or did I watch him play?). I wasn't too excited, also because of the stupid system where enemies are always as strong as you are.
Beyond Good and Evil: my brother owns it for the GameCube. I guess I should give it a try once.
Deus Ex: I played the demo 10 years ago. It was ok, but since I'm a sucker who can't sneak, I ended up playing it as a FPS. And not a very good one.
Assasins Creed: not interested.
CoD4: it's a shooter... and a non-fictional one.
MediEvil: Total War 2: hmm, I'm looking into it. Is there a single player that doesn't take ages to complete? Because I'm afraid of the Civilization (IV) effect: games that last 50 hours.
I'm also terribly excited about StarCraft 2. When it gets a release date, I'm going to replay SC1.
I'm probably going to play the free trial of Lord of the Rings Online, just to look around and see how they portraited some of the Middle Earth environments.
I guess there aren't many fantasy-strategy games like WarCraft 3 and Myth I&II?
Keep 'em coming! :D

I've heard that Sins of a Solar Empire is an excellent game. It's a stategy/empire building game set in space. I haven't actually played it yet, but will probably be getting it very soon so that I can have fun with it before Mass Effect comes out for the PC in late May.

Myeah, those are shooters again. And I said I don't really like those. But apparently you can't find much else on PC nowadays.
And I didn't like the BioShock demo. Not enough.
I read about Sins of a Solar Empire, it sounded ok. I just don't know if space battles can keep me entertained. :)
Oh, how about Fable? Did it flop really hard, or is it still a good game?
bioshock demo sucked. game was different for me.
orange box, aside from the kick ass shooters, has portal. i guess you can buy portal by itself. but orange box is a better deal for what it gives you........ and its a first person puzzle really.
probably the most fun an original game in a long long time.

I hear ya about being sick of fps's but lumping the orange box games in there with it does NOT do them justice, I myself hate fps's, I find them repetitive, boring and ultimately annoying, but Half Life 2 and episode 1 finds a very special place in my heart.
As far as good RPG's go for the computer, ummm, try psychonauts, awesome, underappreciated game, from the makers of monkey island and full throttle and such, very imaginative.
Another excellent game is Bully, by rockstar, excellent story line, gameplay and awesome lack of morality.
As for RTS's, hmmm, SC is hard to top, as is WC III, I mean there is the Warhammer 40,000 series which is awesome, Company of Heroes seems undeniably fantastic from every person who ever reviewed it although I've never seen it myself. As well as Supreme Commander, which should look damn splendid on your rig.
Happy Gaming :D

I kicked my WC3 addiction months ago. Maybe you and I should start up again?
There's nothing more satisfying than a game of 4 vs. 4 Team Battle. :D

Europe doesn't have 4vs4 battles, because apparently there were never enough gamers for them.
Thanks all. :)
Edit: For €40, I don't think I can resist The Orange Box.
Edit2: And for €35, I really couldn't, so I am now the owner of The Orange Box. :)
