Ubisoft had publicly stated that they want to move beyond the FPS genre, but this is certainly not what I was expecting... a flight action game. IGN's commentary and the trailer afterwards:

Ubisoft and Tom Clancy games are like the peanut butter and chocolate of the games industry; the two go together naturally. Gamers who are already familiar with the Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six series have a new Tom Clancy game to consider this fall. Tom Clancy's HAWX (that's short for High-Altitude Warfare...X?) is flying onto PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall.

Developed by Ubisoft's Bucharest Studio, HAWX lets you pilot more than 50 planes in dogfights across the sky. Set in 2012, HAWX imagines a world that has become increasingly dependant on private military companies (PMCs). With PMCs increasingly gaining power, we sit on the precipice of a global conflict. Sounds like a good enough reason to hop in your fighter jet and shoot down some bogies.

HAWX features an Enhanced Reality System (ERS), which is meant to make even the average pilot feel like Iceman. ERS includes radars, incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, damage control system, tactical map, information relay, weapons trajectory control and allows players to give commands to their AI squadron. With the Assistance Mode flipped on, the ERS will put pilots into a maximum safety mode. Think of it like having all the assists turned on in a racing game. You get more freedom and control with Assistance Mode off, but you will also be at greater risk without the full protection of the ERS.

Fortunately, you won't have to fight alone. HAWX supports four-player jump in co-op throughout the campaign. There is also a Vs. mode where up to 16 players can battle online for experience points and in-game cash, which is used to unlock new weapons.

Oh shit. Here comes the Tom Clancy whoring. :( I knew it would happen ever since they bought the full rights to the name.

I expect to see Tom Clancy's Terrorist Kart Racing within the next few months.

Things will get interesting when they throw all those different gamestyles into one game.

Kind of like James Bond: Agent Under Fire and Nightfire? I approve.

I really need to check out AC6. I enjoyed the demo, but never got around to the actual game, probably because of a particularly crowded holiday season... Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game, as well... I think Ubisoft's design teams are a big part of why the last 6 years' or so Clancy games have been somewhere between really good and amazing... I guess I just wasn't hardcore enough to be a really big fan of the "shoot me in the foot once and I die" 'realism' of the original R6 games (commence the "stupid nOOb" jabs).

My friends are also big fans of 1-hit-kills mutiplayer games in Perfect Dark. And I have to say that it makes things more thrilling.
Welcome by the way. :)

H.A.W.T.

That's right I used my whole brain to come up with that one.
