This is from Major Nelson's personal blog of Xbox propaganda:
I wanted to follow up and let you know where we are on the post I made a few months ago on Gamesave Tampering (http://majornelson.com/archive/2007/10/30/Xbox-LIVE-account-sharing-and-Gamesave-tampering-dont-do-it.aspx). Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/legal/legal-tou.htm) by tampering with their Gamerscore and Achievements.

The steps today takes the form of the following:

• Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
• The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.
• The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=cheatermccheat). In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled as well.

Xbox LIVE remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone.

To read more about Gamerscore corrections read the FAQ on Xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/gamerprofile/gamerscorecheating.htm)
I find this all very interesting. What do you guys think about publicly labeling cheaters?

I don't even understand what Bond wrote, so you can be sure I'm not cheating.

I don't know and/or care what a Gamerscore is... I just want to blow people up online...

I like Battlefield: Modern Combat :D... kinda. Its the best going in that genre for Xbox, I guess.

I think it's stupid. I think you should be able to cheat as much as you want in games you own - gaming isn't supposed to be about being a community (especially when you don't care about 99% of it), or going after scores to show off to people (99% of whom you don't care about). It's about fun, and if you have fun cheating, then cheat as much as you want - unless, of course, you're playing against others. Gamerscore comparison is not playing against others, as MS would like us to believe.

I look at it this way...

The people who care the most about achievements are probably the ones who are actually out there TRYING to achieve them...

If you're just having a bunch of fun via cheating, you either don't really care about achievements, or you're a sad sap intentionally doing it to look better amongst the Xbox Live gaming public...

If you don't care, what does it matter, and if you're a sad sap, then I can't really argue with what Microsoft is doing...

Good on them. There's no point in going and cheating on something as miniscule as a gamerscore.
