So, once again I'm going to try my hand at pimping another game here. I picked this one up yesterday and man, it's good. It's like, playing an older Final Fantasy game, with next-gen graphics and storytelling capabilities. That in mind, if you don't like RPGs, this game won't change your mind, it's a traditional outing with very little gameplay innovations, but what it does, it does very well.

The story is quite excellent so far, a lot more mature and emotionally driven then you'll find in any other RPG. In particular, there are these dreams sequences where you can read short stories about the long life the main character has lived (he's 1000 years old, immortal). The dreams are truly fantastic, apparently they were written by some acclaimed novelist, and man does it show. They're incredibly emotional and add a ton of depth to the characters, really good stuff.

Anyways, buy it.

DarkMaster, I'm curious as to your current thoughts on Lost Odyssey? Have you beat it yet? How would you rate it as compared to say, Mass Effect?

To be completely honest, i didn't like this game all too much.
The graphics were good, and I got lost in them from time to time, but other than that, it was a big shrug for me.

I'm currently on the Fourth disc, pretty close the end I'd say. So far, the main body of the game doesn't pose a great threat and you don't have to grind levels like in other games. It might seem a tad shorter than you'd expect from four discs if you don't do the sidequests and such, so it's an okay game all in all.

It has, however, given me the desire to go back to Final Fantasy VII...

I did beat it a little while ago, and overall, hmmm not quite as a good as a final fantasy, which is basically what it was trying to mimic (Sakaguchi what). The story was decent and pretty by the books, save for the written short stories, the Memories of a Thousand Years, they were incredibly well written and very emotional. I think the actual game could've been based off these stories, and I think it would've worked out a lot better, but oh well.

Really, it was a sub-standard traditional RPG affair, better than most, but not up there with the best, Mass Effect is still the king for RPGs this generation (though I haven't played oblivion). Very pretty at times, good localization/voice acting, interesting dungeons/world, I'd definitely recommend it seeing as this generation of consoles is pretty severely lacking in traditional RPGs.

I've had Lost Odyssey since launch, yet am still only on the first disc. Having to work and go to school keeps my time limited with the game. However, I'm really loving it so far. Maybe its due to what I feel is a pretty engrossing story, or characters that I tend to actually like (which in a lot of RPG's, is one of my main gripes), but LO is hitting the spot for me.

I do like the fact that you aren't forced to grind (as much) to come out victorious in battles, and the fact that battles offer slight interactivity to them. It keeps dullness from setting in. Kaim is a pretty good main character, and Jansen offers good comedy. I know a lot of Final Fantasy fans will say its not as good, and maybe its not. I've only played a few FF games, and haven't finished many RPG's (played a bunch...haven't finished many). But for JRPG style offerings on the 360, I can't recommend LO enough. I'm excited to see what's in store for the rest of the game when I get more time to play it.

Well, I might give this game a look then. Although I do still need to buy Call of Duty 4, and Grand Theft Auto IV is coming out soon as well.

I think we can all agree that the 360's RPG offering is already far superior to the original Xbox's. Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey. Hopefully we continue to see this part of the platform widen in its scope and quantity.

I would offer you pointers and give advice as to weapon and type builds for CoD4. Sort of like a Camerons Call of Douty School. Swan knows what im talking about.

I have heard CoD4 is awesome, but I have to admit I wasn't really impressed with the multiplayer beta when it came out. I'm not really even sure if I'll have time to play it online and really get into the multiplayer.

Do you think it's still worth buying only if I play the single player?

The stroy in single player is short, but very well done. They pu tin a lot of fun missions in the game that change it up. Several parts in the story had me floored.

The multi player is what makes the game shine though.

Yes.
Fuck yes.
The single player is so amazing in that game, that it literally makes all other CoD games get down and suck it's cock while you're playing it.

Seriously though, I bought it just for the single player, and I wasn't let down at all.

Alright, that is good to know. I'll have to pick it up this summer after I get GTA IV.
