Mas Effect and Halo 3.

I popped them in my machine to only have my 360 say it needs an update before it can play them... so now I have to go hook it up to my modem. Not an issue as its only making me do what I should have done from the beginning, but I was a bit suprised to see that updates were necessary to play these games.

Question: How the fuck are you going to play these games if you can't get broadband where you live?

Bond

Er... if you aren't connected to the internet your 360 shouldn't know that you need the update. Or were you not referring to yourself?

They're not supposed to. The OS is designed to be put on the disc so there is never compatibility issues.

Really good haul this year, but I also spent a lot more than I ever have on any other Christmas.

From Friends:
Bunch of t-shirts I missed from shirt.woot.com.
Big box of Cuban Cigars (funny, because they're expensive and I don't smoke).
Beautiful Katamari for Xbox 360.
Random gift cards to various retailers/gas stations.

From Family:
A new chronometer.
Garmin GPS for my car (works awesome - totally in love with my new toy).
A Samsung 226BW monitor (God this is gorgeous - playing Orange box on this is great).
Bunch of swanky ties/dress shirts.
More random gift cards.

They're not supposed to. The OS is designed to be put on the disc so there is never compatibility issues.

Still, it seems pretty illogical to make such a large population of gamers unable to play your best games...

But hey, we're talking about the same company that puts out an operating system that takes up all your resources... God forbid you want Office 2007 too...

I just got a 360 a little while ago and own both of those games. I get a lot of notices like this too, but I'm pretty sure they said "if you choose not to update, you will not be able to connect to Xbox Live" or something to that effect. I know I definitely didn't set up Xbox Live before first playing Halo 3.

Bond

The mandatory dashboard update comes with games, the optional title updates must be downloaded from Live, but they're optional.

Professor S
12-26-2007, 01:31 PM
Everyone is saying these things are optional, but reading the message, I was left with no options that I could see. I'll check again tonight.

Get an iPhone. iPod Touch is worthless.

Trust me, you think WiFi is everywhere... it's not. The times you REALLY need to look something up, there will be no WiFi.

Clocky

http://alumni.media.mit.edu/%7Enanda/design/electronics/clocky/pictures/clocky3.jpg

Clocky is a clock for people who have trouble getting out of bed. When the snooze bar is pressed, Clocky rolls off the table and finds a hiding spot, a new one every day.

Clocky began as a class project. After graduating, Gauri Nanda turned Clocky into a well-crafted manufacturable design. Clocky is now available at her company, Nanda. Visit nandahome.com.

That's sweet. I would still opt for a vibrating alarm clock though, since it can get you out of bed in silence and doesn't hurt your ears.

Clocky

I heard about a clock exactly like that, but instead of rolling off it would spin a helicopter type thing off the top of the clock and fly away and a screeching sound wouldn't stop until you got out of bed and caught it. I think I might kill myself if I had something like that.
